Rating: Summary: The Most Touching Success Book Ever ... Review: "The rain falls on the just and the unjust."Like the rain, adversity will come. It will fall upon us whether we are doing everything right, or making mistakes constantly. We cannot control adversity because it operates at a much higher level of cause and effect. Does that mean we should not be proactive? No, of course not. There will always be challenges in our lives that we cannot control. Yet how adversity affects our happiness, and the lasting impact it has on our lives, is completely controlled by our minds. That is why I was so excited to find "Paper Doll: Lessons Learned from a Life Lived in the Headlines," by LuAn Mitchell-Halter. This book is the most touching success book I've ever read. LuAn writes of her personal experiences, and she has endured some of the worst. At one point I'd be laughing, and the next be so moved by the situation that my eyes would well up with tears. This cycle repeated a couple of times as the author shared her tragedies and triumphs. I was also privileged to interview LuAn on "The Inside Success Show," and I went through the same cycle of emotions on the air. Here's her story in a nutshell. Although there were earlier hardships, LuAn's first big heartbreak came from a date rape. Then came rejection by everyone, and eventually, homelessness. She was ready to give up on life, but providence had other plans for her. She began applying a 3-step formula for success to her life. This 3-step formula helped her move forward and build a successful beauty and modeling business, win a beauty pageant, and then find Fred, the love of her life. Then adversity struck as Fred was diagnosed with a fatal disease and they were told, 'no children.' Again, the 3-step formula got LuAn and Fred through his heart and double lung transplant and recuperation. It also gave them three beautiful children, and helped them to grow their dream business. Adversity struck once again when Fred suddenly died. To make matters worse, bully investors tried stealing the business from LuAn and her children. Wisely, LuAn continued to apply her 3-step formula for success. It won her the cooperation of the labor unions, helped her to connect with good investors, and inspired marketing genius, which saved the business and grew it to mega proportions. Her mission is to share the powerful lessons that were born out of the tragedies she experienced, and more importantly, to help as many people as possible learn the 3-step formula that has helped her to continually overcome adversity. LuAn's recipe for success must not be hers alone. You should have it too, so you can be ready for adversity when it comes - and it will, just like the rain. "Paper Doll" is a great read and I believe LuAn's lessons are essential to having the right attitude that will turn even the worst tragedies into triumphs. I recommend you buy and read "Paper Doll." ~~~~ Randy Gilbert is Host of "TheInsideSuccessShow.com," and he loves reading books and interviewing authors, so he can discover their Inside Success secrets to building authentically abundant lives and businesses.

Rating: Summary: a great read! Review: Although PAPER DOLL is a memoir, it is also a teaching book. Divided into 11 chapters with titles such as: Listen to Your Instincts; Surround Yourself with People Who Inspire You; Define Your Dream; No Dream is Achieved Alone; Protect Your Power, etc., LuAn Mitchell-Halter quotes the newspaper headlines that tell her story, & spices the text with sidebars & planning agendas. Certainly LuAn Mitchell-Halter has made a name for herself, from the one the girls at her school gave her, to her salad days as a beauty queen who spoke about women using their minds, to her days as a journalist & TV talk show host, & then to marrying one of the wealthiest, most eligible Canadian bachelors. After ten exciting & loving years, Fred suddenly dies during a routine medical checkup, & LuAn is left holding the ropes to a declining business & a hostile takeover bid...& turns that into a multi-million dollar partnership! PAPER DOLL tells of not only how LuAn Mitchell-Halter survived the "slings & arrows" cast her way, it lets us into the secrets of her success. Rebeccasreads highly recommends PAPER DOLL for the vitality & inspiration in LuAn Mitchell-Halter's rise from poverty to corporate executive, philanthropist & three-time Leading Woman Entrepreneur of the World.
Rating: Summary: A Roller Coaster Ride through Success and Failure. Review: As an Author, Coach, and Motivational Speaker I read alot of books about people, their motivations, and their relationships. LuAn Mitchell-Halter and Paper Doll get an A+ for the amazing story (if it were fiction people would never accept it), an A+ for the lessons learned, a B for the writing, and an A for the discussion points at the end of the book. An unwed mother at 16, a beauty queen, working three jobs to make ends meet, married to the company president, husband diagnosed with terminal disease, triple transplant extends husbands life, boardroom battle with family members for control, out of court settlement, rug pulled out on financing... and you're barely a third of the way through the book. I do love a lot of the lessons learned: - make a plan, follow your gut, find the good - act from a position of hope and not fear - define your dream - surround yourself with alliances to support your dream - no dream is achieved alone - let your priorities lead - giving back is tremendously rewarding Finally, LuAn encourages readers to use the book for reading groups and provides a list of discussion questions. I recommend you get a copy of Paper Doll. I'm planning to get my mastermind team to do a group study of this inspiring story.
