Rating: Summary: All Said and All Done...Before Review: I own all of SARK's books and question why I decided to purchase this one. I enjoyed the first couple, I thought they were fun and I am just a huge kid anyway. I had hoped to get something new from the others, but was disappointed. And I took a leap of faith on this one, fully expecting it to be NEW AND FRESH. I was wrong. I suppose it is difficult to grow artistically, spiritually or any other way when all you do is nap.
Her words are flowery, child-like and hold no real meaning-and I understand her message of recreating our childhood creativity and energy-but I am an adult and require more stimulation. I tire of the same old crap in each book. When I first bought her books, I had hoped there would be practical things like exercises and projects to help bring out my creativity and playful side, but honestly I get very little from hugging trees and watching snails. We creatively challenged folk look to the more creative for suggestions and ideas, not silliness.
I might suggest that she stop resting on her laurels and effect change in her own life--the potential for her to actually be interesting is certainly there. For your own sake, SARK, FIND SOME NEW MATERIAL--I feel like I've wasted my hard-earned money...AGAIN, and the likeliness of me purchasing another SARK book is slim-to-none.
Rating: Summary: Practical advice wrapped in delightful wit and encouragement Review: If you appreciate the writings of SARK, you will LOVE this book. It is specifically on the topic of identifying and going after your creative dreams. It includes practical advice, along with stories of her own experiences, and interviews with others about their creative journeys. This is her biggest book, at 300 pages, and it is a mix of black and white pages with color pages thrown in. Her art is mixed throughout the book, and it is a visual feast. In fact, you almost need to let yourself ramble through the book to appreciate the art first, so you can come back and concentrate on the content. This book is like the best of her previous eleven books, rolled into one, with even more wonderful material thrown in. It is specifically about how to identify your creative dream, and then how to go after it. It is broken up into 12 months, but you can do it at any pace. There are also a ton of goodies like exercises, gifts, web site and book recommendations, and more thrown in. Buy it, devour it, and come back to it again and again for inspiration and encouragement. If you could rate a book on Amazon with 10 stars, I'd have given it eleven!
Rating: Summary: Another blessing of a Book- Treat Yourself! Review: If you have never read anything by SARK, then you don't know what you are cheating yourself out of. Make Your Dreams Real is an honest, insightful, and beautiful book that deals with all the highs and lows and everything inbetween when you decide to take a leap and make your dreams real, live, living, breathing things! What I enjoyed most was the mix throughout the book of very personal sharings and A LOT of very practical advice about how to support yourself through this often very wrenching process. Theres a lot in here that I think will really help me - and hopefully you too!- to view my resistance and fears in a new way, and embrace the process. We only have one life in this shell and this book is reminding me to make a work of art out of the very way I live it and honor my innermost creative dreams. If you are like me, then maybe this book will help to wake you up and out of your 'back-up life' and back onto the path of that which you know deep, deep inside truly brings you your greatest fulfillment. Treat yourself and buy this book! Alexandra Saperstein-Galyuk - Los Angeles, CA
Rating: Summary: SARK is always the BEST! Review: Ive been a huge fan of SARK since '99. A friend gave me a SARK card and from the moment I saw her artwork I was enthralled and enchanted. I went at hunted out her books. Wow! This one is her biggest one yet. I remember be disappointed it was hardcover, cuz I like to carry mine in my bag, and its bulkier. But other than that I loved this book! She used a different style so she could include more in this book than her completely handwritten other ones. But even the text they specifically made for this book is great. Not everything will apply to you of course, but 80% of the book did and I adore it.

Rating: Summary: Carrots, not sticks (or maybe carrot sticks w/guacamole dip) Review: Sark is such a gentle self-help guru -- all carrots and no sticks -- she's like a sweet, upbeat best friend who never yells and always has a kind word about your most meager efforts. If you blossom under those circumstances (and wilt under the "tough love" types), you'll love this book. I especially enjoyed the interviews about other people's creative dreams, and the "micro-movements" wheel chart. People may scoff at micromovements, but if you do just a tiny bit of art/writing/whatever each day, it adds up, and is preferable to trying to do too much & then giving up.

Rating: Summary: Lets all hold hands and sing Kumbaya.... Review: The only words that I can bring to mind are sappy and cutesy, but certainly not worth the cost. There is a place in the world for those that think "everything is beautiful", but this book goes way beyond that. A quote will explain my thoughts, "I send you...A scoop of stars and a cloak of patience. Your cloak of patience is lightweight and invisible to anyone else. It folds up to the size of a penny." Great stuff if you are speaking to the kindergarten class in San Francisco, which is where this would fly. Spend your money on things that have factual, useful and relevent information. This should be listed in the childrens section, their its cutesy drawings and sugery quotes would make sense. In the adult world it is sad. If you are into a childish (not child like) outlook on your growth and your future this is the book for you.
