Rating: Summary: I was out of control. This book was my answer. Review: Before this book i was out of control and when I say out of control, I mean it. Even though I'd lost over thirty pounds on the "biggest low-carb diet going", I couldn't stay with it. I gained back fifteen pounds of the thirty I lost and couldn't get a grip on my eating.I got this book as soon as it was released and within two days I knew I was going to be okay. It's been only a week but just like they said I'm already back in control. I've started losing weight again and I have carbs everyday without going nuts. I don't cheat and I feel like my old self again. I am so glad I didn't give up. This book was my answer. I hope it's yours.

Rating: Summary: Much Needed Addition to Authors body of work Review: I find this new addition to the Heller's body of work in the low carb war a must read. I have used the previous books in the past and found them to quite informative. I lost 20 pounds using the heller's method. Never had I successfully lost weight on any other plan (Carbohydrate Lifespan Program). With the 7 Day Recovery book I found the reason for my stall in weight loss and was back losing within 48 hour. I am Type 2 diabetic and this program immediately lowered my blood sugar levels. If you are interested in the latest info on low carb living purchase this book.
Rating: Summary: The absolute best! Review: I have dozens of diet books - many of them low carb diets. This is by far the best book I have. While Atkins and many of the others starts you off with the hardest part of the diet and eases you in to more carbs, this plan suggests you work into the diet over 7 phases. It is so much easier and so much more effective. I never could last on the Atkins diet, but this diet shows you how to eat a healthy diet and have a little of anything you want. At last - I have found a healthy eating plan that works for me.
Rating: Summary: Noticeable Difference Review: In this book the Heller doctors present an alternative approach to the typical low carb diet. Drs Heller suggest you start slow, and work up to a low carb diet over a 7 day period. Using this approach, the dieter has an easier time of adjusting to a carb free diet, without the sudden shock of going cold turkey. However, in my opinion the best part of this book is Part Two, where they discuss tactics, tips, and strategies for succeeding on this diet. I learned in this book that artifical sweetners and MSG were sabotaging my weight loss goals. After suffering for weeks on a low carb diet, I had reached a plateua and my body refused to yield a single more pound. After reading this book I have removed artifical sweetners from my diet, and try to minimize MSG consumption. This is not easy, as MSG is virtually all of our processed foods, including the protein broth ingredient used in canned tuna. Also, the Hellers disclose some of the hidden carbs in food generally accepted as good on this diet. For example, I had been eating a sizable amount of vegetables that I thought were safe, but alas, they were loaded with hidden carbs. The main premise of the Heller low-carb diet is to eat in a way that effectively manages your blood sugar levels. The book gives you plenty of ideas on how to do this, including some surprising debunking of popular low carb diet myths.
Rating: Summary: Before this book I couldn't stick to a low-carb diet Review: My letter is short and to the point. When I heard about this book I was trying to figure out what to do. I couldn't stick with either of the low-carb diets I tried. I couldn't go a day without going off my diet. Each night I'd promise myself i would get it together the next day and every day I'd blow it at least once. I was getting nowhere fast. There's something amazing about how easy this book is to follow. I finished the last step and I never cheated. Not once! I have no problem staying off carbohydrates because I can eat them in a controlled way everyday. I don't need to go off my diet and I don't want to. That's what's really great. I would recommend this book for anybody who just can't get stick to the typical low-carb diet no matter how hard they try. Like the book says: no blame here, just help.

Rating: Summary: Great addition to the Hellers' library, minus one issue... Review: The 7-Day Rescue/ Recovery Plan is a valuable addiction to the Hellers' writing, not to mention for the ever-expanding low-carb library. Perhaps the best advice in this book is to work up to your carbs on your "Reward Meal." (Side note: I DESPISE the term "Reward Meal." We are not animals, and we are not being rewarded for anything.) Most carb addicts, when they eat a meal with carbs, tend to head for the carbohydrates first and get sidetracked with the other stuff like protein or fiber. (Hey, that garlic bread just looks more appealing than a salad...) Working toward your carbs gives you a sense of pace and discipline.
My one problem with this book is the following statement: "Did you know that two stalks of broccoli are equal in carbohydrates to a chocolate-covered ice-cream bar?" All together now: can we say SENSATIONALISM! This is utter nonsense, and comments like these are what get the low-carb followers labeled as, shall we say, a short walk from sane. Somebody please tell the Hellers that broccoli is full of fiber (let's not even mention the other nutrients), and that the net carbs are about the same as other low-carb green veggies. What drives me especially crazy is that earlier books (eg., The Carbohydrate Addict's Lifespan Program) place broccoli on the "crave-reducing foods list." What on earth did broccoli do to offend the Hellers since that time!? In short, broccoli is FAR more nutritious and low-carb than an ice-cream bar.
But the great thing about this diet is that you can have both. This book could be a saving grace for those who cannot long-term on Atkins.
