Rating: Summary: The summer of the swans Review: The name of the book I read was The Summer of the Swans by Betsy Byars. The theme that I chose was Loyalty. The book was about a little girl "Sara" who has a sister Wanda who is older, pretty, and well formed, and there is Charlie who is disabled. When he was three he had very high fevers that almost took his life away, and damaged his brain. Since then he hasn't spoken a word. Sara is a girl who thinks "looks" is all that counts. She is jealous of her sister because she gets all the boys. One day Wanda wanted to go see the swans with her boyfriend Frankie. They want to go on his motor scooter, but aunt Willie thinks it is dangerous. Aunt Willie is the one who takes care of the three because their mom died when they were young, and when their mom died thier dad left them in aunt Willies care. Frankie asked Aunt Willie to go for a ride to show her that it was safe. Aunt Willie went and then let Wanda go. Sara wanted to go see the swans and Aunt Willie tells her to take Charlie with her and some bread to feed the swans. Sara and Charlie feed the swans and then watch them for a while. When Charlie knew it was time to go he refused. Sara had to drag him home. That night Charlie couldn't sleep, all he could think about was the swans. Charlie gets up and goes to the window and he thinks he sees a swan in the bushes. When he gets down there it was only a cat. Charlie wants to see the swans again so he goes out of the yard and head down the road. He loses his way and starts to head up the hill. Dogs in the neighborhood start barking. They frighten Charlie and he starts to run. Charlie is running into everything until he gets to a ravine and somehow gets stuck. When Charlie was running he lost one of his bedroom slippers. In the morning Wanda, Sara, and Aunt Willie find out he is missing, and she calls the cops. The cops set up a search to find Charlie. Sara and her best friend, Mary go up behind the lake and walk behind the houses toward the woods. Joe comes along to help, and gives Sara Charlie's lost bedroom slipper. Meanwhile Charlie is stuck in the ravine. Sara can hear Charlie crying in the distance and runs toward the ravine. She finds Charlie. They go home and Sara and Joe stay behind. Joe asks Sara if she will go to a party with him. Sara says yes and goes home to get ready for the party. Sara discovers that she does really love her brother. She used to think that he was a pain in the but, but when he was lost she couldn't give up looking for him, and when she found him she didn't think that Charlie was a pain any more. She thought that Charlie interfered with her life, but she found out that she was loyal to him after all.

Rating: Summary: oskars review Review: The summer of the swans is a intresting book for younger kids. It is about a poore family. Sara and Charlie they were brother and sisers, the mother of them died when they were small kids and their father works a long way from the house were they live. Charlie cant speek since he was 3 years old s he has a handicap. Aunt Willi takes over the mothers role in the house and she looks for charlie and sara. Only one think happend in the story that was that Charlie went away from his house and Sara and Aunt Willi had to search for him. Sara and Aunt Willi were very nervouse because they told Saras father that they would look after him very good, and finally the had found him. Thats all about this book.
Rating: Summary: The summer of the swans ... Review: The summer of the swans I think this story is not very interesting because it is very a psychological book . It is about the life of a teenager girl that has a special family . Her mother died when she was young and her brother had a sickness , that means that he can't talk anymore . The father is working far away from the house and her aunt called Willy is taking care of her brother and sister . The names of the family Sara she is the main character in this story then comes Wanda the bigger sister that is working far from their house and Sara thinks that she is really pretty . We have Charlie the retarded brother who can't speak . The aunt Willy is the person that take care of them all because the father is not at home . The story is really small , only one thing happens , Charlie get lost and every body search for him . At the beginning of the novel Sara feels really bad because she doesn't have friend and that she feels ugly , but at the end she gets a new friend and everything is good. ...
Rating: Summary: [a] review Review: The summer of the swans This book is a good book, it was written by Besty Byars. She wanted to pot some problems of teenagers into it. Rating: Summary: Manuel's Review Review: I give a three to this book because i think that in that book there is not a lot Action.I like books like detective stories were you can guess whos the bad guy and who did the crime. This book is more about Families, relationships and teenager and about people with problems and how they live. I like stories with Technology, Action, Adventure and . This book is from a poor part of US and they don't have good Technology, many Action. If I can choose a book I wouldn't choose that book because i don't like that type of books.
Rating: Summary: My Review Review: This book contains lots of problems. The book the Summer of the Swans is about a 14 year old girl who can't really decide about herself and her ideas about herself change throughout the novel.Sara's brother is called Charlie who is aged ten, but has the mind of a three year old due to a childhood illness. Sara cares for him like a mother. One night however Charlie goes out to see the swans, but gets lost. He panics and falls down into a ravine. Sara looks for Charlie with Joe Melby the alleged person who apparently stole Charlie's watch. Sara finds out that Joe is not what he thought he was and they become friends. Meanwhile Charlie is found by Sara and Joe and she really finds out how much he means to her. I liked this novel because it was well planned and had a moral. I believe that the novel is also good for people over 12 because plot of the story is sophisticated enough for older readers.
