Rating: Summary: Inspirational and interesting Review: This book shows the progression that Bruce Lee went through in his lifetime - constantly changing and refining his workout techniques. It is interesting as a history of his training and as an inspiration. Lee's dedication shows in his training, and it helped inspire me to push just that much harder in my own workouts.Just remember - if Bruce had lived longer, he would have continued to change! Use this as a guide and a motivator, but keep up to date with your training techniques.
Rating: Summary: For both athletes and fans Review: one of the people who revieved this book only gave it 2 stars saying you can't train like this today. I think you must agree that he has missed something as everyone else gives it 5 stars. but perhaps u're more of a "big muscles" (van damme) type of guys than a cut body like bruces. but every athlete should read this and then adapt it.. he says how you train one muscle but surely in our time u can make it mroe efficient with the use of machines. anyways read this book!
Rating: Summary: This is Great!! Review: This book has a lot of different excersises for almost every part of your body. I use a lot of the abdominal excersies that are in this book. If you are looking to build a muscle foundation, this is an ideal book to get.
Rating: Summary: How THE MASTER did it. Review: This book is not about how you SHOULD train your body, but it's about how you COULD train your body. Of course fitness technology has evolved since Bruce's methods. But the point of the book, as well as Bruce's main philosophy, is that a martial artist/athlete/human being should decide for him/herself what is the best method to train. It's not about what you do, rather that you do it at all. This book is how the MASTER himself made his body into a flawless fighting machine. Others may reach that same peak while following a different path -- and that would have been fine with Bruce. Bruce's philosophy in a nutshell: "Keep what is useful, discard what is useless." I will use certain exercises in this book that appeal and work for me, and I will discard the rest. Bruce would be proud if you did the same.
Rating: Summary: Great book for any Bruce Lee fan Review: I agree with one reviewer in that this is a great book if you are a fan, but since Bruce Lee is dead, and it's been over 25 years since his death, there are methods today that are probably better. However, considering how there were not all the vast amounts of info on physical training back in the 60's and 70's like there are today, it does offer a tremendous insight into how we normal people can train our bodies without all of the modern conveniences of today. Bruce Lee's physique was awesome towards the latter part of his life (Enter the Dragon, Return of the Dragon) because his body was very well defined--he had cuts; I'd rather be cut and medium sized than super buff and no cuts (muscle on top of fat like a lot of people you see). This offers a testimony to the physical achievement that Bruce Lee accomplished (remember the time setting here; no popular widespread muscle mags, workout shows, big modern gyms, etc.). We can learn from his training methods. Maybe we normal people can enhance them with some modern technology. Bruce Lee was a pioneer in physical training. He used to have his friend, who was a welder, build special machines for his specific purpose. This is what we see in our modern gyms today. So, if you are a fan of the late great Bruce Lee like I am, then this is a great book for insight into Bruce's training methods. If you want to have some knowledge of physical training, then this is also a great book, and there are modern modern methods too, but the methods that Bruce Lee used can still work today. Just think, Bruce Lee developed his physique without all of the modern conveniences that we have today, so we can still get great value out of this book. At his time era, there weren't a whole lot of pictures plastered everywhere of models with cut bodies like we see today, but in fact, Bruce Lee's physique still rivals most personalities of today in terms of symmetry and pound for pound strength (I like his physique the best). Look closely at his forearms in blown up posters of him in Enter the Dragon. I have yet to see someone with forearms as cut and built like that for someone of equivalent size and weight. Anyway, the book is under $20.00, so it's a great buy. Lots of pics of him that I haven't seen before, and insight into the man Bruce Lee too, so go ahead and get it.
Rating: Summary: For fans, not for athletes!! Review: Although Bruce lee developped a very powerful body, and he was up to date on training methods, things have changed since is death!! Like everything, training methods evolve. Science has developped more efficient ways to work out and has set guidelines for anyone who wants to look. If you are a fan, buy this book!! If you are looking for the best way to train your body, this is not the book for you.
Rating: Summary: AWESOME!!! Review: Amazing book that gives a lot of insight into Bruce Lee's training methods and thoughts about training in general. It isn't a weight-lifting only book; it deals with stretching, cardio work, and martial art training as well. Also details the progression and evolution of Bruce Lee's training regime. Has worked wonders for me. I am EXTREMELY glad that I got this book. I feel like a millions bucks!
Rating: Summary: I think it is a good book Review: It is a good book. It tells you how Bruce Lee worked out and how he got his body the way it is. Most people can't spend as much time as he did, so most people can't follow his training workouts. I think you could get some good tips on how to workout from it. If you would like to learn how to stretch though I believe that you should read a book by Thomas Kurz (Stretching Scientifically). Overall I think it is a good book.
Rating: Summary: Ideal for any athelete in all fields of sport. Review: This is the second book that I aquired after The Tao of Jeet Kune Do, and I would say that this one compliments the Tao. Not only has it improved my training, but the pictures gave inspiration and motivation to my entire regime. I found that this book gave me the direction that I needed to pursue my journey as a martial artist and as a person. Ever since I read this book and began using the training methods outlined, I have become stronger, more powerful, and a happier person because of it. To this day I wake up at 5:00am every morning and work on flexibility and abdominals before I go to school, and carry a around tennis ball in my bag to work on isometric grip exercises whenever possible. This book also inspired me to purchase a heavy bag which I work on consistently to improve power in my techniques, and as a sparring partner. This book has benefited me greatly, and I hope that it can do the same for every other reader.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic! Review: Finally, a detailed book that decribes how Bruce Lee developed such incredible strength, and such an amazing body. The book, in addition to tell us what Bruce Lee did, tells us HOW he did it. The detailed descriptions of how to perform each exercise is invaluable to anyone who wants to make the most of it. And the book is packed with tips on how to always improve yourself. I've read a lot of books on weight-training and conditioning, and this is one of the best. All the details on how to perform exercices and movements also makes the earlier books in this series better, since those books often lacked a description on how each movement should be done, how many reps, how often and so on. This also goes for stretching, basic training and cardiovascular, not just weight-lifting. The only thing missing is a little more critically wiew on some things from the author, John Little. Not all of Bruce Lee's theories on how to train are completely accurate by the standards we have today. For instance, on the issue on stretching, the book "Stretching scientifically" by T. Kunz is a far more advanced and efficient approach, and at some poinst completely the opposite of what this book suggests. This also goes for some other minor things, and should at least have been noticed. To train exactely like Bruce Lee is not advised, as this would probably injure most people. But this book tells you exactly how he lived with his training, and is ment to inspire the rest of us. And it sure does. A must for anyone interested in the human body, be it bodybuilders, martial artists or anyone else, regardless of what level you train in. Read the book, apply what you learn, and be the strongest and most powerfull you can be.
