Rating: Summary: inspiring Review: What a book! Six months ago, i decided to change my lifestyle and begin to train again, i stumbled onto this book and low and behold, i am changed man. After using many of the training methods and techniques Lee used i have found an extensive change in my strenght and body. The diet and supplement section is also useful, as is his position on jogging. Yes, the majority of it is simplistic, (pushups, bench pressing for chest and so on) however, it is effective. If you are motivated enough and are willing to train hard you can achieve your goals, and this book has some excellent methods in which to achieve them.
Rating: Summary: Get the book Review: This book tells you how Lee trained. If that's what you want, get this. Did the man overtrain? Yeah he had to have. But look at how fast and powerful the man was. I don't recommend doing things exactly like he did, but much of what is here is good and should be applied, not just for martial artists, but anyone wanting an exercise program. Understand that the routines here are over 30 years old. But they worked for him and will work for most people.
Rating: Summary: Critics, Critics, Critics. Review: This is for the critics below that missed the purpose of the book. The purpose of the book was to outline Lee's training regimen since his regimen was not publicized prior to this book.If you believed you were going to read some new training programs that never have been used before or believed that these were 30-year-old martial arts exercise secrets that are being revealed for the first time you wasted your money. If you believed you were getting a book that outlined Bruce Lee's routines and descriptions of his exercises you got more than you paid for. Bruce Lee had a tremendous curiosity for fitness as well as other aspects of his life. As new and different approaches came out he would try them out and if they gave him the results he wanted (function) he would incorporate these into his exercise regimen. If the exercises did not give him the results he wanted, they were discarded. As a martial artist I believe it is beneficial to look at all aspects of masters of the martial arts (past and present) and keep what works and discard what does not work.
Rating: Summary: Bruce Lee's Training Revealed! Review: It provides facinating insight into a great martial artist's training schedule. It's a great book for anyone.
Rating: Summary: Would you like to go faster? Review: I have been exercising and doing martial arts for over seven years and this book will give you new ways to explore your potential. The workouts are excellent for developing every part of your body and as Bruce would have told anyone, develop farther than you believe you can. Your punches and kicks will become faster with the practice outlined in this book.
Rating: Summary: Good and that's all Review: Good, and that's all Although Bruce Lee himself was masterful at his art- he was not however a God. Many people seem to consider him as so and frankly his ideas were in truth interesting and effective, but they were also not beyond the realms of any others human being's imagination. His skill was impressive but is neverthless achievable by any other human being. This combined with the pretentious writing style of bodybuilder/author John Little, makes the book a terrible read. But what it does create is an underlying message that nothing is achieved without hard work. You don't need to read a whole book to know this though.
Rating: Summary: Look At the Facts Budy Review: The WAYS are ever changing. If Mr. Lee were still here today he very well may have conformed to conclusive training methods and have them documented in new publishings. The tuning/balancing ideas and the philosophies behind it all documented in his books are Mr. Lee's personal notes from what I understand. Journal writings, personal notes, drawings etc.. These were the everyday methods he used that maybe he felt were all his body needed at that point in time, who really knows. Maybe they are outdated(according to today's scientific American)but then again maybe they are all the body needs to stay as "fit" as possible without effecting other aspects of one's life and overall training. The way I look at it is Bruce Lee was a very educated man. He dedicated all of his time to evolving not finding the ultimate for there is no such thing. But you can get pretty damn close to it. And if anyone was close to perfecting the art of expressing the human body it would have to be Mr. Bruce Lee. His methods are universal and if anything other than essential, build strong framework for daily routine. No one is saying that Bruce Lee is the best and to be the best you have to follow his and his alone, however I can't think of anyone more dedicated to evolving and expanding martial arts so that everyone can take part, learn and achieve a higher level of human expression in the area of self defense, body traing so on. Be open minded and realize that this is if anything a good addition of ideas to add to your regime. It comes from a well defined source! Experiment, conclude, expand but always remain open minded to new ideas that maybe don't dramatically change your own. Bruce Lee wasn't only into tuning the body but balancing the whole being so that one may become capable of accomplishing many things other than just martial arts. The Art of expressing the Human Body. P.S. I don't expect this to be extremely helpful as a book review but more of an overview to those whose reviews seem extremely immediate to criticize a book. An idea.
Rating: Summary: Great but not the greatest Review: This is definately a great book it has alot of conprehensive tips on how to develope your body so that it will be functional as well as look incredible. While some of its techniques are a little antiquated most of these health and fitness tips are definately worth while because lets face it people if Bruce Lee got the body he did by using this kind of training then why shouldnt we? While I think there are probably better workouts out there for me as a martial artist, who wanted to improve his power, speed, and endurance, it was great its fast, clean and definately worth you while. I think this book is definately a great addition to anyones home fitness library. But remember this book is geared toward making your muscles funtional not nessecarily look good if you want that you would definately be better off buying another book.
Rating: Summary: Big Time Rip-Off ! Review: Other than a couple of interesting tips, this book is NOTHING but descriptions of BASIC exercises, pull-ups, jumpimg jacks, curls, etc. It has some fair pictures of Bruce, so I'll keep it instead of paying for shipping and having nothing at all. Major disappointment, it's sad that this kind of worthless rip-off is ever published at all.
Rating: Summary: Time To Move On Review: I'll be the first to say I've been facsinated by Bruce Lee, JKD, etc. for a long time. In fact, I'm a student of JKD. It's fantastic stuff, but I think partly because of the contributions from the various artists who kept it evolving into the brutally effective art it is today. But I'm also into working out in general and there's a lot better sources of Exersize Science information out there then this, even martial arts specific. Sorry folks but this is 30+ years old stuff. There's been a lot of things discovered about strength training, cardiovascular health and nutrition in the last 30 years. You'd probably be better served to read one issues of M & F. While I appreciate Bruce Lee's contributions to the MA wholeheartedly, do modern baseball players follow Babe Ruth's training regimen (OK, bad example, Babe didn't live the cleanest life, but you get my point) or does every issue of Sports Illustrated have Babe Ruth on the cover (like Inside KF with Bruce). It's just time to move on!
