Summary: Personal defense for the Business World, Also
Review: Col Cooper's principles are fundamental to staying alive on the mean streets but they also form a critical set of skills for survival in today's business world. Many "modern" managers read Sun Tzu to learn how to defeat their corporate enemies. They would be better served by reading Col. Cooper.

Summary: We all owe a good deal to Col. Cooper's wisdom
Review: Col. Cooper's booklet (it IS about 40 something pages) is ought to be MANDATORY, as should be reading his "Cooper's Commentaries" (use a "net seach" using his name, hint, on YAHOO, or EXCITE, and look for a site w/ a web adress in the UK) If you've heard the term "mindset", this is who we should give some credit to for making it a vocabulary word amongst practical citizens who wear a firearm.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Not a book, more of a pamphlet
Review: Cooper writes some good stuff, and the info in this "book" is good, but the law of diminishing returns sure is in effect here, $10.50 for what amounts to a magazine article. Not worth the money, especially if you've already read some of his others. Take a pass, read it at the library, or buy one and share it with a group.

Summary: Required reading for those interested in self-defense
Review: Cooper's book is the starting point for anybody interested in protecting himself or herself from violent attack. While Cooper is best known as a founder of The Modern Technique of the Pistol, this is not a book about guns or gunfights. It is about the mental conditioning, notably including situational awareness, which one needs to avoid (if possible) or survive an unavoidable violent encounter.

As has been said by Cooper and others, having a gun no more means you are armed than owning a piano makes you a musician. This book is a solid foundation for arming yourself against a violent criminal attack, whether or not you choose to protect yourself with a firearm.

Summary: Must own, must read, must apply
Review: Great book writed by a great author. Everything I read could and must be applied in every aspect of your personal life. Clear y simple, if you feel you are missing something abouth your personal protection, here you will find it, in 98 pages, all you must know about it.

Summary: The cover is the best part
Review: I am sure Mr. Cooper is a very accomplished and knowledeable shooter and writer. However, I found this book to contain mostly issues and items that should be common sense to most people. As one reader of this book suggested in his comments, this is a magazine article with elementary drawings. Most of the criteria listed here should be explained to you at your handgun carry class in addition to the laws and general safety. I am sure to someone who wants to get an intimidating looking coffee table book where a mean looking fella is shooting at them, it's great, but for me, I found this purchase to be a dissapointment.

This does not mean I will pass on other Jeff Cooper books, but I will certainly read ALL of the reviews and try and make a better judgement than what the cover looks like.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Extremely Informative
Review: I thought the content of the book was excellent. It breaks down in small portions, principles of self defense that a person can apply everyday in their life. No magic, just great common sense. My only gripe is that the book is so short. It literally takes about 1/2 hour to read.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Extremely Good for Novice
Review: If you're new to personal defense, you need to read... no you need to devour this text.

I assure you that once you ever face situations that Jeff Cooper describes, you will be equipped to handle them. This book literally could save your life.

Do not be a victim even when you're the victim!

If this book were longer, it would be even better but listen... if it were longer, fewer people would read it. It would sit on shelves for "one of these days" and then it might be too late.

I do not know Jeff Cooper but I have read one other book of his and I am so very greatly impressed. He teaches so much more than defense in his writings, although for this jewel, it's primary reason for being is to teach you to protect yourself.
