Summary: Packed with good ideas
Review: As with all of Loren Christensen's books, Speed Training is written in an accessable style that is fast paced and interesting. Many of the concepts in the book shouldn't be new to experienced martial artists, but unlike some of his other books, this one has a number of unique drills that are very effective, when done. Definately a recommendation to any martial artists library.

Summary: This information works!
Review: I bought this book for two reasons: I enjoy all of Loren Christensen's books and also because I am not naturally fast. The drills and exercises in this book made me a much faster martial artist. I especially liked his discussion on how to create an illusion of speed and make your opponent think you are much faster than you really are. This is a great book no matter how fast you are, because it will make your kicks and punches and blocks even quicker.

Summary: Good Info - with good drills
Review: I enjoyed Loren Christensen's SPEED TRAINING book and have used some of the drills and expalinations in my classes. Students enjoy the different approach and the fast paced drills. Earlier reviews discount the value of this book, but keep in mind no training book can offer all of the information on a given subject. This book has some great ideas and applies them with concise drills. I think anyone with an open mind would find this book a useful addition to their martial arts library.

Summary: Great for old, slow guys like me!
Review: I have a library of over 230 martial arts books. Many are in mint condition; stuff I've read only once, didn't finish, or never got around to. Christensen's are all dog-eared with sticky notes and scribbles in the margins, solid material I read over and over again. As always his advice is practical, useful, and easy to read. I really like the drills he's come up with in Speed Training. I have found them effective not only for myself, but for my students as well. I've been doing martial arts for over 30 years. If he can make this old dog faster, changes are his advice will work for you as well!

Summary: Excellent
Review: I've been training for 20 years and I wish I would have had this book when I first started out. Lots of great drills, intersting discussions and new research that will help the reader move at his or her fastest. Although there aren't a lot of step-by-step pictures, the author gives the reader pleny of information on how to improve speed in all phases of fighting.

Summary: Not One Page of this Book is Wasted Material!
Review: Loren Christensen presents speed training in a simple book packed full of concepts, ideas and theories. Unlike most books, Christensen doesn't waste a single page, instead he makes the most out of your reading time. The techniques and drills presented give the reader an endless supply of new training ideas and ways to spice up and speed up every training session.

Summary: One of a kind
Review: Speed is the most important asset a fighter can have. Sure, strength, courage, flexibility, endurance, and grappling ability are all important, but if you are not fast enough to block your opponent's attack or you are too slow to hit him, these will be of little value.

If you weren't blessed with natural quickness, are there ways to develop hands that move as rapidly as a serpent's tongue and kicks that crack the air like a bullwhip?

Can a naturally quick person become even quicker?

Can you learn how Bruce Lee and other masters developed their incredible speed?

Can perception be improved, reflexes sharpened, timing polished?

Are there specific exercises you can do to keep quickness from being used against you?

Can quickness keep you alive in a knife fight?

Are there shortcuts?

Are there really ways for you to double your speed immediately?

Loren Christensen answers an emphatic Y-E-S to all those questions. He will show you how to develop instantaneous reflexes and explosive speed for punching, kicking, grappling, and police defensive tactics by following the simple drills, exercises, and principles outlined in this book.

Christensen has been a martial artist for 36 years and a police officer for 25. He knows first hand that speed is often the difference between first and second in a tournament - or first and dead in a real-life battle. Learn from him how to stay a step ahead of your of your opponents in the dojo or on the streets.
