Summary: The best running book for a beginner!
Review: This book is motivational and inspirational for a runner at any level. Its focus is more on the life changing effects that running has on a person regardless of experience or level of performance. I loved it! Waddle on!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Great, great motivation for beginners
Review: This book is perfect if you are just starting to run and are feeling a little foolish about it. I have read and re-read it several times already, especially as I neared the day of my first race. The author encourages you to run for your own self, despite your age, weight, lack of experience, etc. So much of what he wrote is what I feel. I laughed with recognition throughout. His style is funny and self deprecating. The book doesn't offer training programs or other "mechanical" information. It helps you get your head in the right place, and literally helps you find the courage to start.

Summary: excellent motivational book for beginning runners
Review: This book is probably best picked up by beginning runners who have a bit of running under their belts (a couple of months). It describes very accurately the psychological and physical experiences of the beginning runner. The book won't tell you much about technique or injuries, etc. The focus of the book is the Penguin's philosophy of running and that philosophy is very appealing--the message is to take a balanced, personal and mature view of what you are accomplishing and to enjoy each run for what it brings and tells you about yourself. There is a bit too much on racing and body types for my taste but generally the book inspires you to pull on your shoes and head out the door rain or shine!

Summary: A must-read for phys-ed teachers
Review: This book should be required reading for all physical education teachers. I wish it had been there for my phys-ed teachers to read when I was a kid.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Inspire Your Inner Athlete !
Review: This book will inspire your inner athlete! An active life style involves mental as well as physical conditioning. Wanting to be more active is the starting point. Getting started takes an act of your courage. Set your mind in the right direction, and the body will follow. Bingham's writing style is entertaining and encouraging. The dedication to a goal that one learns through running/walking can be used to focus on non-athletic goals in life.

Summary: Excellent reading & info for beginner runners!
Review: Wonderful insights, encouraging words and very humorous! An excellent book for someone wanting to get into the running world. I'm a seasoned runner and have read it for enjoyment. I've given it as a gift to 3 family members who want to start a running program but don't know how.

Review: WOW! I'm totally excited! I walked into B. Dalton's, and they HAD it! It was in the Health Section. I began reading it immediately. I cried, and laughed, and cried some more and laughed. I can relate to this book so much. John is the most wonderful person I've ever met! Congrats, John on getting published!
