Summary: Soccer Specific?
Review: I haven't read every word in this book, but I was disappointed in its lack of soccer specificity (though it claims to be so). I wonder how much of it is identical to the other 30 "Ultimate Guide..." books the publisher publishes. I'm not saying the book isn't a good weight training book, or that I won't benefit by it, it just appears they may be marketing the same content under several titles, making you "think" it was written specifically for the sport. For instance, there is no indication that the author of this one, Robert Price, ever played soccer! I was expecting sections like, "To improve your kicking," or "stretching exercises for goalies," or "strengthening muscles for twisting/turning," etc.

Summary: Play like Beckham!
Review: I was recommended this book from a friend of mine who is also a soccer nut like myself. I found that this book clearly outlines how the individual player can exponentially increase their level of effectiveness on the pitch. Besides improving my general performance on the field by increasing my level of stamina, strength, and flexibility, I found that this book serves as a very good starting points for players of all abilities and ages.

This book provides advice narrowly tailored towards soccer players. Where other books fail to provide advice about how one can prevent injures and make training fun, this book undoubtedly succeeds!!! Overall, a great buy.

Summary: Fantastic Training Aid
Review: Its been a long time that I've found a book to be as functional as this one. It outlines soccer specific programs that are easy to follow and even easier to understand. My efficiency in the weightroom has increased ten fold, and I am now faster and more powerful than ever before. Also, I am quicker and able to make sharper cuts on the field and can jump higher now to reach up for difficult headers. All in all, this is a great book that I would recommend to anyone interested in enhancing their soccer playing performance.

Summary: Ultimately, a disappointment
Review: There's nothing specific about soccer in this book. It's full of informative stuff on how to perform certain lifts, but there is little useful information on how to incorporate these lifts into a program that helps improve soccer performance. There is actually more space dedicated to upper body weightlifting than to that of the legs...and if one is going to improve soccer performance, having big biceps is rarely going to get that done on its own! Overall, it's a good general weightlifting book for beginners to intermediates involved in A sport, but not for those involved in A PARTICULAR sport, despite its title.

The cover states, in bullets under the title, "increase speed," "prevent injuries," Eliminate fatigue." Yet, there is nothing in the book that talks about the issues directly related to speed training, other than weight training. Alone, it won't do enough! Prevention of injuries in soccer should focus on the knee(most commonly injured, especially in female players) and ankle. There is nothing in this book to guide one in preventing injuries to those areas other than the general weightlifting instruction itself. Given that it's a general program, and given that there is little attention paid to those exercises that would most likely prevent injuries to the areas most commonly injured in the sport, I question why the authors would include this on their cover...as if it's a main selling point for the book! Finally, the idea that weightlifting alone will ELIMINATE fatigue implies that all one has to do is follow the exercises in the book and one will never get tired! Hard to believe that my pumped up biceps and chest, minimal protection against the areas I"m most likely to injure, and little else, will help me completely eliminate the fatigue of running for 90 minutes a game. Sorry, this one is a loser - better to have published one general book on weightlifting for sports, and not try to mislead the reader with more sport-specific appearing titles.

Summary: awesome!
Review: This is the best book I have found of its kind! A workout plan just for soccer players that is clear and easy to understand. You can use this program at any skill level and see results fast. Definitely worth the price - I have introduced this program to my whole team!

Review: Weight Training for Soccer? The only place you'll see the word Soccer is on the front cover. The exercises descriptions also need some heavy editing and some of the black and white photos are hard to make out. Misleading.
