Rating: Summary: accurate and useful information Review: As a natural healthcare practitioner, I often refer to several textbooks to update and review for the benefit of my patients. I have come to rely on Dr. Columbu's knowledge as it applies to athletes. Yet, there is a point to which all persons can benefit from just a little of his principles. Seldom will you find a book recommending that the specific enzyme-containing foods required for proper breakdown and assimilation of other vital substances. As to the comment that the information on the macronutrients and micronutrients being outdated and nothing new, I must respond by replying that I do not often encounter persons who have a working knowledge of what nutrients are responsible for certain functions and the consequences of deficiencies. And the information he provides is just as useful today as it was in the book's first printing. We could all use a bit of a refresher course from time to time on basic nutrition. Glad to see Dr. Columbu reiterating the value of such information.
Rating: Summary: Nice for Novice Review: I liked the book, but I am a rookie who has little to no experience. It was a quick read that only raised more questions for me. Veteran body builders won't like it much as I have found that they already know most of the topics in the book. One thing did put me off. I found it hard to believe the statement in the section on steroids that he (Columbu) didn't know about steroids when he first won the Mr. O the first time. I shared this with a fitness news group (MFW) and several people also found it hard to believe.

Rating: Summary: The Bible Review: I used this book to bulk up while losing over 50 lbs (from 225 to 165 lbs), and I maintained my strength. I did not follow the nutritional supplement advice, but did follow what to eat religiously. This is the best sports nutrition book, period.
Rating: Summary: THE BEST NUTRITION BOOK OF ALL TIMES!!!! Review: IF UR TRAINING HARD, UR REALLY LIKE THE TRUE MEANING OF BODY BUILDING AND WANNA KNOW HOW NUTRITION CAN HELP U TRANSFORM UR BODY TO THE MAX THIS IS THE BOOK ALL SHOULD HAVE. LEARN WHY MILK AND YOGURT CAN CAUSE FAT LAYERS UNDER THE SKIN, OR THE LOVE HANDLES CAN BE CAUSED BY EXCESS PROTEIN INTAKE AND A LOT MORE THAN BELIEVE ME YOU WONT FIND IN ANY OTHER BOOK ABOUT NUTRITION.
Rating: Summary: Out dated information on supplements, vitamins, etc. Review: This book is hard to stomach for a few reasons... 1. The majority of book is devoted to describing supplements and minerals in detail. The problem is the supplements used in the 90s obviously aren't included. If your looking for a detailed description of what vitamin B6 is this is the book for you. 2. Franco, according to this book, doesn't have any problems sticking to his diet and basically makes a point of making sure you know this throughout the book. I don't really think he can write a book and advocate discipline etc. when it obviously isn't an issue for someone who considers eating grapes a binge fest. 3. Everyone knows what you should and should not eat- there is no mystery there. I was disappointed the book didn't have any unique suggestions or offer any useful information beyond what most bodybuilders already know....All in all a major disappointment but the book does offer a good laugh occasionally when you encounter Franco's pompous attitude...
Rating: Summary: The Bible Review: This book is very interesting and helpful for the body builder seeking the best nutrition etc. Even though I own many new nutritional books, I still learned many facts on foods. This book was ahead of it's time.

Rating: Summary: A very good, comprehensive and brief nutritional "rule-book" Review: This is a great guide for those individuals who seek to bodybuild via real food and not via some of these synthetic powder drinks, for instance. Its a great nutritional assistant that provides lists of "do" and "don'ts" when comes to all the food groups and also explains how vitamins and supplements benefit our body. Its also a great source of some digestive concepts and information. Nutrition tables are also given for over 300 sources/items.
Rating: Summary: A must read Review: This is the one book I found that helped me to understand the confusing world of nutrition and bodybuilding. I use this book as a reference and have read it cover to cover at least 6 times since I purchased it. This year I plan to make this book a gift to all my friends and family interested in the sport. Thank you Franco for your help and direction.
