Rating: Summary: No More Wondering Review: "The Triathlete's Training Bible" contains all the things you need to know to about multisport. It answers the most important questions about training, resting, planning, eating etc. This book helped me to develop as a triathlete who doesn't have a personal trainer. "It tells you things that you sometimes do not want to hear. It ,however, builts your confidence because you know you are doing the right thing in the water, on the bike, on the ground, and in your dreams."
Rating: Summary: Blah Blah Blah Review: ...I have read about four triathlon books and this definitely ranks last. The author bores you with complex concepts and fitness buzzwords. One good thing I can say about this book - At least each section is short, so you will eventually get through it.If you want some good info on triathloning, then read 'Triathlon 101' and subscribe to 'Triathlete Magazine' or 'Inside Triathlon'.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding! Very detailed and grounded. Review: A great book for those who plan to self-coach...I got a lot out of Mr. Friel's approach to annual planning and periodization of specific training objectives.
Rating: Summary: The Triathlete's Training Bible: A Complete Training Guide Review: Absolutely outstanding book. Saturated with information and I have only started reading the first few chapters. I highly recommend this book. If you need just that little bit more of information to give you the edge this has it. Well worth the price!!!
Rating: Summary: Comprehensive and scientifically proven Review: After reading this book, many other books and articles on the sport seem to be poorly written. The author provides the whole picture for his claims by mentioning relevant scientific studies both supporting and nullifying his training method. He does not base any of this book on opinion, but does point out that there is also an art to training that has nothing to do with science. He gives excellent instruction for all three sports including how to devise a training plan customized for your goals, the special skills required for each sport, and nutrition. It is a very comprehensive book and will take at least a couple of weeks to finish, but the education is priceless. I never raced a triathlon before this book and after reading it, I felt like I had more information in my head on the subject than most seasoned veterans. The only negative about this book is that there needs to be more on swimming and to truly become a better swimmer you will need another resource; I believe he suggests Total Immersion by Terry Laughlin. Joe Friel's web site is http://www.ultrafit.com/ and you can go there for more tips or to inquire about personal coaching services. I sent him an e-mail questioning something in the book that I didn't understand and he responded the same day. I constantly quote the book to my friends. Maybe that's why it's called the "Bible".
Rating: Summary: A labor of love Review: All you'll ever need for endurance training. A lifetime of training experience is condensed in one book. Equally valuable for the novice and the experienced endurance athlete. This may be the best book I have ever owned.
Rating: Summary: Just the beginning... Review: Even though I've been competing in the sports of Triathlon and Cycling for over a decade, I still find myself refering to the TrainingBible books for a sanity check every few months as I plan a new phase of training. Joe's methlodolgies helped me to achieve peak performance when I was a young stuggling pro and they help me to keep things in focus now that I have a "Real Job". The great thing about the books is that they provide a perfect starting point for using the new self coaching service at www.TrainingBible.com. I you 'get' the book, you'll love the service!
Rating: Summary: The ultimate tri self-coach book Review: Friel's book is the ultimate in self-coach books. I own his entire series of "bible" books and find them to be fantastic. Each chapter is well written and scientifically based with appropriate references from the scientific literature. Friel has provided an important service to any serious athlete - he has condensed, summarized, and synthesized the scientific literature so we don't have to. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: Great Bible for serious multisport athletes Review: Friel's Training Bible is by the far the most informative of the many multisport titles that I have seen. I am now preparing for my first half Ironman, and have not only learnt a lot, but I have also learnt to appreciate it as a motivator. Reading Friel about triathlon put me back in focus, so to speak. One comment: the running section seems weaker than the swimming and cycling sections. A second comment: it takes a motivated reader to read it all, despite the clear language and attractive presentation. A must-have for all those who are serious about their triathlon goals.
Rating: Summary: The Triathlete's Training Bible: A Complete Training Guide f Review: I am 40 years old and ran my first sprint tri this Sept. I could not have done it without this book. The tips on how to train, what to expect during the race and what to bring made the race fun instead of stresssful. They don't call it the bible for nothing.
