Summary: No Help
Review: I had been bodybuilding for some time before reading "Static Contraction". When I started the 10 week workout period I weighed 165 with a bodyfat of 21%. After the 10 week period I weighed 161 with the same 21% bodyfat. My measurements were also reduced, probably because of the long layoff period between workouts. When I went back to my regular regimen my muscles were very sore after my first few workouts showing that they were not used to having a good hard work-out.

Summary: Not bad
Review: I read the book more than once and found it to be interesting. There are some new concepts that made me think of bodybuilding in a different way. I used to go to the gym four to five days a week. Each workout would last one-hour max. Each body part would be targeted only once a week. However, I reached a plateau in all my lifts. For example, I used to bench 225lb for 4 times. I was so frustrated, so I started looking for something new. That's when I bought the book.

The first thing I learned is to rest. I used to know that rest means resting each body part one week only. I was mistaken, unfortunately. The book asks to take a break from all forms of exercise for a week, at least. And to rest each body part two weeks at least. Meaning you do only one workout once a week for half of your body. The other half would be trained in the following week.

I took a couple of weeks off. Believe it or not. My following chest workout, I benched 235lb (full-range) for 4 times. I came back way stronger than before. That is about 4.4% increase in strength.

The author produces the static contraction training in a really interesting way, and he makes a lot of sense. On the other hand, I didn't agree with him in many points. That is why I gave the book three stars. He says that Free-Weights and machines are both the same for gaining strength and mass. Well, free-weights work more stabilizers, while machines don't. Stabilizers make muscles stronger and bigger. The author also talks about how supplements don't give results, including creatine, and in another part of the book, he talks about the importance of ATP. Well, that's what creatine is all about, ATP. Plus, there have been many researches made supporting the effectiveness of creatine. He also talks about how Supplement-selling companies, basically, lie, when they say "you can gain......" He say, they say that just to sell their product. However, he did the same thing, when he said "Gain up to 25lb in just 10 weeks." The average gain is about 9lb (statistical analysis in his book). He, too, did the same thing to sell his product..

Bottom lin, the book is a must read. It will open your mind to many new ideas. I can't wait to see the results I will get, God willing, from the SCT.

Summary: Where to find detailed exercise descriptions
Review: One reader has complainded that the exercises are not fully described. You can find a very detailed description of "partials" used in this book in authors' former book "Power Factor Training".
Otherwise, I can't say anything else but that I like their system a lot and it sounds logical, since I have just started the program.

Summary: One year of STC: My results summarized
Review: (25) workouts in first year of uninterrupted STC; 90 minutes gym time/workout consisting of 10 exercises lasting average of 10-15 seconds each; workouts originally spaced 7 days apart are now 25 days apart; (...) STC is ONLY exercise I do other than jog. Ongoing results indicate 30% full range strength gains/year (=60% static strength gains/year). Summarizing: (gym) + book + 37 hours = 30% increase in full range strength. (...) I should double my starting full range strength every 3.3 years.

Summary: Prove it to yourself!!!!
Review: Static Contraction Training and the method that preceded it, Power Factor Training, are the only guaranteed ways to KNOW, with 100%, absolute certainty, that whatever bodybuilding routine you're using is actually getting you the results you want. Sure it's great to see more mass on your body every time you look in the mirror, and to hear all your friends and coworkers say how amazed they are at your new bulges, and to know exactly how long you need to rest before your next workout to not waste time and still not overtrain. But even better than all that is to be able to go into the gym and prove to yourself that you absolutely, no-ifs-ands-or-buts about it, GOT STRONGER and therefore BIGGER. No other training method provides an objective means to measure your progress, so why bother with them when you can use Static Contraction and Power Factor training? But don't take my word for it, learn the system and go to they gym and prove to yourself that it works.

Summary: these guys are on to something
Review: As a certified personal trainer, I'm always open to new ideas for my clients as long as they're based on sound principles. What caught my attention is that the results of their data comes from experienced lifters-the hardest group to show strength improvements...they did. Their method of "scoring" each workout will work for ANY workout routine. Accountability seperates the workers from the drones. Kudos go to the authors. Remember to warm up all your muscles, ligaments, and tendons before every workout.

Summary: astonished!
Review: Static contraction lifting is the future of weight lifting. I thought I would never reach my goals until I read this book. I gave the book four stars instead five because of the many gross pictures of professional weight lifters in it. Because stactic lifting doesn't take much of your time and the only gains you make are tremendous. Right now I am currently playing rugby for a professional team. And thanks to this book I am one of the bigger guys on the pitch.

Review: This book may the single worst book I have ever read dealing with exercise. Sisco and Little's reseach is flawed and they exhibit a lack of even the faintest grasp of exercise physiology or bio-mechanics.If I could give this book a negative star I would.

Summary: Static contraction
Review: Too many photographs. Should have more excercise options. An excellent concept. Seems to be working for me. Gives you more time for Yoga and or aerobics.
