Summary: Be the one you love!
Review: "When you trust your inner promptings and act on them, synchronicity works with amazing precision." ~Alan Cohen

There is a moment in your life when you realize you are taking care of everyone else and you have forgotten to take care of yourself. That is when you may notice a sense of soul-starvation, illness, a lack of energy, depression and a list of other negative factors appearing in your life. At about this time, you start to feel that your life "sucks."

Self-help guru Alan H. Cohen has written a comforting book to show you the 10 reasons why your life might suck and to present a roadmap to leave your past hell and enter a future life filled with triumph instead of tragedy. Through Alan Cohen's message I realized that everything I needed was inside me and lately I've learned how to listen to my heart and not just my head.

I really had a good time laughing out loud throughout this inspiring book. Not only does Alan Cohen speak to you as a friend, he adds a witty touch to reality checks. You can't help laughing along and enjoying this entire reading experience.

The book is divided into 10 main sections, which include such topics as: "You Give Your Power Away," "You Say Yes When You Mean No," and "You Forgot to Enjoy the Ride."

I enjoy Alan's love of quotes and his thoughts have been inspiring me for years when I heard them on the "Dave 'til Dawn" show on the radio. After going through a few months of deep soul searching I knew it was time to read all of Alan's books. I needed a reality check, but in a manner that was comforting and healing.

There is an amazing rescue story in this book and an interesting perspective on how you can lose weight. Now I realize why yoga can be great for weight loss. Alan really answered a lot of my questions in "Why Your Life Sucks." He also captures profound ideas in one sentence.

"Wherever you go, you will find yourself." ~Alan H. Cohen

Although I agreed with 99% of the advice in this book, I am not so willing to eternally responsible for agreeing that there is no heaven or hell. I found it interesting that Alan was quoting a few scriptures but had rejected those two ideas. Then he got me interested in looking up additional books. There are quotes from many religions and also from a variety of sources throughout this book. It is not a religious book, but will definitely help you along in your spiritual path. Alan is against guilt trips and in favor of a feeling of freedom and acceptance.

Alan goes beyond commonsense and shows you how to live in an enlightened reality. He encourages the reader to take care of the body and soul.

I also loved his descriptions of his life in Hawaii. I will continue to dream about night-blooming jasmine and clouds that turn pink at sunset.

Summary: Thought Provoking
Review: 'Why Your Life Sucks: And What You Can Do About It' made me very depressed. Before I read it, I was happy and content. By page 40, I realized that my life really did suck. So what did I do about it? I stopped reading the book.

Summary: A Room With A View
Review: A room with a view is what the reader needs after reading this mind candy. You will see clearer out a window rather than spend your money on this dopey book. First, the title is an insult and second there is no proscriptive measures that are meaningful that the reader can use. This book is silly!

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Insulting
Review: After reading a few chapters of this book I felt insulted. Everyone I guess has bad and good days, but to say that my whole life sucks is just too much. This is very negative book that offers few positive moments. I am sorry I spent my money on this less than friendly book.

Summary: Take responsibility for your life and reap the rewards!
Review: Alan Cohen has distilled the essence of hundreds of self help and consciousness raising tenets, and in the process created a simple yet powerful antidote to the ailment of the "sucky" life.

With a writing style that is humorous and humble, straightforward and non-judgmental, Cohen takes the reader through a journey of self-discovery that reminds us that the ultimate power over our lives lies in our hands alone. He covers ten basic reasons your life may suck, with anecdotes and personal experiences to illuminate each, and then hands you the keys to unlock the door to your own joyful path.

A great self help book works simply to remind us of what we already know, deep down inside. This book does not give vague hints or mysterious exercises meant to create the illusion of growth. It strips away the nonsense and reminds us that, despite evidence to the contrary, the only thing standing in our way is us.

I loved this book. It was a joy to see myself reflected in its pages. And with its hilarious title, it will be a joy to share it with my family and friends.

Summary: A MUST READ FOR EVERYONE
Review: Alan Cohen has succeeded in writing one of the best self-help books ever! It is full of enlightening material for everyone. Before reading this book, I was not aware of the life that was being "sucked" out of me. And what's more.....it was being "sucked" out by personal choices I was making!

Alan's approach is humorous, yet right to the point. Written in a style that is easily understood by the reader. I guarantee that you will "see" yourself in this book. "Why Your Life Sucks...."is a MUST READ for everyone...unless of course you are one of those exceptional individuals, who already has it totally together. In which case, you should probably read it anyway for a reality check!

Summary: Stop a life that sucks---get a life that rocks!
Review: An awsome, in your face but straight to the heart book by a master real-life teacher. Alan rocks you--not sucks up to you--on every page, challenging you to stop and change your life if it sucks in any way, and get a life that completely rocks. Alan covers ten basic reasons your life may suck in ten easy reading, but hard hitting chapters, with liberal doses of humor to boot. He loads each chapter with classic insights from great teachers from many traditions, and real world examples common to anyone's life. Alan also provides many great ideas of how to get you out of suckville. So whether your life completely sucks, or only sucks in an important area (like relationships or prosperity, for example), this book can be a powerful catalyst and guide to help you start living the life you fully deserve.

Summary: Forget the title: the book is sound.
Review: As a career/life coach I am always on the lookout for books to recommend to clients -- and I would definitely recommend this one. I assigned four stars rather than five because it lacks the depth and coherence of a book like Finding Your Own North Star, my all-time favorite life transition book.

The best part is the quote, Instead of worrying about life after death, let's ask if there is life BEFORE death.

Some good parts: You give power away when you don't listen to your own intuition. "You were born with your timer set to KNOW." (p 19)
The section on wastng energy and attention is very good also.

Another favorite quote (p. 185)):
"A good therapy for many of us would be to take life at face
value and just show up."

Some parts of the book should embarrass the author. As another reviewer pointed out, it's ludicrous to credit your intuition with a decision to take a later plane -- and then be rewarded when the person you are meeting is delayed.

Not for everybody -- but a good starting place for many.

Summary: Pretty good...
Review: I give this book a 4-star because it had a lot of new insights for me but it got boring on some parts. A lot of common sense, stuff I alreay knew.. Some stories sounded fabricated to make his point. Some parts were funny and uplifting. Overall, it was a pretty good book.
