Rating: Summary: an essential spiritual guide Review: The text is rich with scriptural and philosophical imagery. The person of Jesus and the awesome wonder of God is transparent in its every page. A wonderful, daily meditation upon the very nature of humanity as we interface with a loving and all-welcoming God.
Rating: Summary: Makes a great gift, especially for someone hurting. Review: This book was given to me after the stillbirth of our daughter. I was given numerous other books in dealing with death that were too much of a reminder and not encouraging to me. This book helped me so much and is one I have given out now as a gift and one I still pick up for encouragement.
Rating: Summary: If your life's not "perfect," this one's for you. Review: This book was given to us during one of those "valleys" of challenge we all encounter. Other devotionals have left me with a sacharin hollow. THIS one is totally different. Deep. Inspiring. Meaningful. Character-building. Encouraging in the depths of trouble, and stabilizing in the heights. This book will keep on giving for the rest of your life. If I had to downsize my belongings and only had room to pack a handful of books in my saddle bags, this would definitely be among them. We bought 20 copies and gave them away. I think we'll by more.
Rating: Summary: A Good Book Review: This Christian classic has helped many people focus their thoughts in the right way while going through challenging circumstances. It is filled with truths from the Bible and quotes from myriad sources. Consider, for example, this quote from George Mueller, "Be assured, if you walk with Him and expect help from Him, He will never fail you." A similar quote from C. G. Trumbull, who wrote of Dr. John Douglas Adam that, "I learned from him that what he counted his greatest spiritual asset was his unvarying consciousness of the actual presence of Jesus." She writes much about character development and overcoming obstacles. Perserverance is a theme of this book. She reminds us "Power is developed by resistance." A quote from Ruskin tells us, "Not without design does God write the music of our live." This review has not done justice to this book. No review could. You have to buy the book and read it to gain the full benefit. I recommend you do so.
