Review: When I began reading this book, I was intrigued by Villoldo's Inca Healing techniques. Unfortunately, that was quickly diminished after reading the first half of the book when I noted that some of his information appeared inaccurate. He cites that a psychiatrist,Jerome Frank, wrote a book regarding the meaning of life from a Nazi concentration camp. Although Frank is an author, the book he described was written by Viktor Frankl.

In reading on the 5th chakra problems, Villoldo's gives a loose interpretation on how a borderline personality is susceptible to psychosis and neurosis, yet gives no other more significant features or origination of this personality disorder. Spiritual healers should avoid using these mundane labels in their spiritual practice. Villoldo is on a slippery slope promoting the use of diagnosing psych disorders to healers who do not have the expertise to make such diagnosis on people who have most likely already been stigmatized. Also, Villoldo contradicts most written work on interpreting the energetic levels. He fails to address his reasons for his unique interpretation(-the causal level being at the physical and the physical beyond astral and mental energy levels), which left me wondering if these were simply editing error's or Villoldo himself. Because Western culture is only beginning to accept alternative medical traditions, it is important that author's and teachers be impeccable in their teachings so that healing can continue to evolve in its legitimacy to mainstream western medicine.
