Rating: Summary: Dreams Opened Up Review: Dream Dictionary was informative but it may have set up the reader to use an actual dictionary because the words in the book were a little complicated for most average readers to understand. All in all I could successfully say that the book was an eye opening into personal feelings and my own personal emotions. I even attempted to analyze a few of my classmates. I have tried to relate the findings of the book to my life and the way I look at it.
Rating: Summary: Not really useful...but not entirely useless. Review: For anyone who is interested in dream psychology, the title of this book may seem intriguing. Be warned, though, if you have a logical brain in your head you will *probably* be able to interpret your dreams without the aid of this book. The book's descriptions are very general and aren't as helpful as I'd hoped. As a fairly well-educated person I have more luck using my own interpretive skills. For example, a dream symbol such as ice is described as, [I'm paraphrasing here]: "feeling frozen and unable to make a decision or perhaps stuck in a situation." To me, that's not too insightful and seems slightly elementary. I've had much more success understanding my dreams by keeping a dream diary along side my regular daily journal. Reviewing dreams (and perhaps using the dictionary at times) gives a greater understanding of self and the way an unconscious mind processes thoughts which conscious mind may ignore. Don't let me be too negative, though. There are some merits to this dictionary--hence the 3 star rating. This reference text may prove helpful for individuals who need a little assistance interpreting the symbols appearing in their dreams. For me, I'm glad I got it through an Amazon.com Delivers mailing for bargain books. : ) Keep on dreaming.
Rating: Summary: One of the most comprehensive of dream guides Review: For nearly forty years I have had a love of what was under the surface of human consciousness - perhaps through my being born prematurely, and so feeling more linked with the pre-conscious condition. I carried this love into working with people on their dreams and inner life. It led to becoming dream correspondent for the Daily Mail in the UK, and for London Broadcasting Co. From this I was exposed to thousands of dreams. The research work on these dreams, and twenty years as a dream therapist, has been incorporated into Dream Dictionary. Dreams have given me a university education in the way of Life and the human condition. From the deep centre of our being they comment on our daily life, loves and work. What they reveal enlarges us, helps, and heals us. I hope you will allow me to be your companion in your dream life through my book.
Rating: Summary: Unreal, uncanny, so helpful! Review: I am constantly amazed by how clear my dreams become when I look up their elements in this book. The definitions allow me to immediately relate dream images to things happening in my life and from there, to understand or resolve them. Tony Crisp includes explanations of well-known psychological theory on dreams (Jung, Freud) as well as cues on processing your dreams. Overall, the book is much more than a dictionary; it really is the A-Z guide that the cover promises. That having been said, I believe the information contained here is most helpful when you're concurrently exploring your unconscious or working through issues by additional means, e.g., journaling, counseling/therapy, etc.

Rating: Summary: not helpful Review: I did not find this book helpful at all. It didn't always have the symbol I was looking up. Most of the definitions it had related to the same . . . topic.
Rating: Summary: Dream Dictionary Review: I hate this book! Everytime I Look up one of my dreams, or symbols in my dreams, they all relate back to sex somehow, or to the penis. And I had oewned this book for a long time. I finally just threw it out after some ridicoulous definition. Do not waste your money.
Rating: Summary: My copy is dog-eared I like it so much! Review: I have a dog-eared copy of this book and home and am now buying it for the students at my high school library (I am the librarian.) It is fun and yet authoritative. It has helped me intrepret a lot of my dreams through the years!
Rating: Summary: Not good for beginners Review: I purchased this book in hopes of accompanying my other not-so-detailed book and found this one to be rather difficult to interpret. You have to sit and not only remember your dream, in detail, but your feelings in the dream DURING and AFTER you awake to fully interpret your dream. This book is very lengthy, and you really can't find the interpretations you are looking for. For the beginner, it really isn't helpful and you become tired of it quickly to actually sit for an hour to use it. I purchased this using a gift certificate, THANK GOODNESS, or I'd be more upset at even spending a dime on this dust collector!
