Rating: Summary: lacking Review: I found this book to be lacking on the subject matter. The exercises described in the book were lacking as well. After reading such authors as john Edward and Sylvia Browne and some others I was dissapointed. nothing really resonated with me. my two cents. but don't take my word for it maybe you'll find somthing you like about it that rings true.
Rating: Summary: Taking the mystery out of intuition..... Review: I had used the 5 steps that this book is based on on a limited basis and in certain situations, but I hadn't used all 5 effectively and consistently to transform entire areas of my life until reading this book. In each chapter, Judith Orloff clearly explains how these 5 steps are applied to a specific area of one's life experience. This book was a pleasure to read - she did a great job of illustrating points by using her own pertinent, fascinating and touching professional and personal experiences. I thought it would be great to get an intuitive reading done by Judith or someone as competent in this area as she is - but I thought it would be even better to be able to access intuitive guidance on my own. This book showed me how to do it.
Rating: Summary: Required Reading Review: Dr. Orloff's natural gifts are so remarkable that just reading about her experiences is fascinating. Yet there is more: she firmly believes that her readers can develop capabilities similar to hers. Still more amazing: she does not present any newly-invented theology, or insist upon particular rituals. Instead, Dr. Orloff employs honesty, humor, intelligence, and her medical training to make the tenets of her thought memorable and useful in her readers' lives. "Second Sight" introduces Dr. Orloff's personal experience and essential principles. "Guide to Intuitive Healing" expands upon this basis to help people develop daily habits that enhance physical, emotional, and sexual health. Both books are highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: Sexuality Is Not Just For the Young Review: When my husband was dying 3 years ago, I read the relevant information about death and found it very helpful at this difficult time in my life. Now, I am reading the chapters on sexuality, and at 79, am encouraged to reawaken to a "unity of mind, body and spirit" as recommended by Dr. Orloff. She writes in a style that is loving and interesting--easy reading. She gives permission to love ourselves which can be transmuted to others. I wish I had had this book many years ago. I was well-married for 54 years but we could have had so much more had we read the book together early on. At any age, it can invigorate your life. I have bought copies for friends and family to enthusiastic reception.
Rating: Summary: For Us Patients: Help Comes From Within Review: Many doctors focus on the vast amount of knowledge medical science has amassed, even though the technology often provides cures that outpace our ability to heal from those cures - such as in the field of organ transplant. In other types of illnesses patients are left despairing that our only cure lies in the chaos of what is not currently known to traditional medical science. So we are left to passively wait for answers to come from outside ourselves. This is often the case when our physical or mental illnesses are labeled "chronic" or "incurable." Our resulting passivity overwhelms any last vestige of hope, and we move to the margins of life. What draws me to Dr. Judith Orloff's "Guide to Intuitive Healing"? As a twelve-year heart transplant survivor, her book rekindles for me the glimmer of hope that healing is possible in the face of all odds. Her work supports the growing belief that our Souls are in charge, not our doctors or our medical regimens or whatever the latest new pill on the market. While she by no means suggests that we abandon the medicines and treatments that help many of us, she shows us that we can engage our Selves - utilizing our awarenesses, our dreams, our intuitions, and the very physicality of our bodies - to work in tandem with what is offered in treating illness. And for those of us who fall through the cracks, having already pushed the limits of what is offered, the tools she provides can help open up this dialogue within, taking us to new avenues of healing not yet commonly discussed. Dr. Orloff is among a small cadre of M.D.'s who walk between two worlds. And do so with grace. I count her among published physicians such as Brian Weiss, Bernie Seigel, Andrew Weil, Larry Dossey, Ken Hamilton, Gerald Jampolsky, Deepak Chopra (to name a few) who have taken risks to push medicine and their peers beyond comfortable limits. In doing so they work to close a growing gap between physician and patient, a gap most physicians seem to spend their professional lives encouraging. At a time when medicine and our current healthcare systems appear paralyzed and at a crossroads, more concerned with the health of providers than patients, Dr. Judith Orloff's book is refreshing in its ability to meet us in the quiet of our own homes. It recognizes our power to know ourselves and what ails us in a way that no other person outside our own skin can. No matter how expert. Because it is in the dark of night, away from our doctors and our office visits, our clinics and our hospitals, where we most often cry out for help. "Guide to Intuitive Healing" goes a long way to answer this cry, teaching us to hear the song of our own Soul's truth. Therein lies our healing. Many thanks to Judith Orloff for taking the time to write this book.

Rating: Summary: a wonderful guide by a courageous individual Review: i have read all of dr.orloff's works to date and have found each one to be more enlightening. she is an example of what the future holds for healing and the treament of the whole person, through sickness and health. her second book, which is the subject of my review,is the product of not just a wordsmith but of an artist. she is able to communicate rather "mysterious"concepts and make them plain. in this her genius is similar to albert einstein's,ie even the most difficult of concepts of reality should be capable of expalnation in terms that a child should be able to understand. the book organizes a rational approach to what on the surface appears to be irrational. she makes intuition become a more orderly and reliable process by showing how to systematically approach it. she builds on the concept of empathy and intuition as a natural part of everyday life that we can learn to tap into on a regular basis.in this day and age of "evidence based medicine" dr.orloff truly gives evidence of this tool that can be used, similarly to that of a routine lab test,in the decision making process of healers. i am a psychiatrist with subspecialty certification in forensic psychiatry. in the course of my forensic practice, i encounter a great deal of unpleasantness on a fairly regular basis. in particular, the chapter in her last book on centering and protection, will help me maintain my compassion and energy in working with this difficult population of mentally ill criminal offfenders.i have learned a great deal from her consistent approach and will lead to a greater incorporation of intuition into my medical practice.her book was written in such a caring and compassionate way as to make me feel as if she was my own personal teacher.this book is a classic and will likely hold a similar place in history as the works of freud and jung, but in a kinder and gentler way. i eagerly anticipate the next work of this trailblazer who shows us a most humane way of practicing not only medicine but of living.
Rating: Summary: This book opened my heart Review: I have been on the healing path for several years and have been helped along the way by the works of Caroline Myss, Belleruth Naparstek, Marilyn Williamson etc. However Judith Orloff's "Guide to Intuitive Healing" was for me the thread that bound the pearls of wisdom of all the others I mentioned. I lost my life partner of 27 years a little short of 2 years ago, the pain of which I have been carrying with me. I always felt that he was with me protecting and guiding my life, but doubted the reality of it attributing my feelings to a projection of my pain. The joy of realizing that my intuition is accurate is a quantum leap in my on going healing process. Dr. Judith Orloff's book has added a quality of joy and love to my life, casting a light on the shadow of loss I had been living with. Miracles happen and Judith is a miracle worker! S. Rating: Summary: This is a wonderful book! Review: What an amazing book! Judith has inspired me to look deeper into myself and see things I didn't know where there. This book has really touched me and has taught me different ways to see the world and myself as a person. Her book "Second Sight" is just as wonderful, I would recommend these books to anyone who wants to get in touch with their inner self. I feel like I can really connect with what she's saying, I have learned a lot from these books and I hope other readers will get just as much as I have from them if not more!
Rating: Summary: Powerful and entertaining Review: Judith Orloff has built a bridge between the ideas behind spirituality and the capacity to utilize these ideas into our own lives. She offers a practical and wise blueprint to demonstrate specific techniques to access our intuition and she shows how doing so will open our lives to healing and to living a more joyful and satisfying life. Her book is filled with indespensible information that will provide the skills we all need to find meaning and compassion in our world and in our lives. I highly recommend this book be added to the top of the priority list of "must reads."
