Rating: Summary: Great Reiki Book. Review: Reiki shouldn't be kept a secret anymore. Healing is desperately needed for people who have spiritual, mental and physical illnesses. I'm grateful and glad that I found this book. I recommend it to anyone who wants to learn reiki, but I think if you want to fully understand it you should go to a Reiki Master to learn it.Namaste, Astro
Rating: Summary: not what i was looking for Review: others have already mentioned my (few) concerns about this book...her display of the "sacred" reiki symbols, her wiccan and feminist slant...so i don't see a need to go into those. this is a good book for those who know very little about reiki, but i don't think it's for those from the traditional reiki mindset, or for anyone who has already been attuned. i only heard of reiki a year ago, and was attuned (I and II) in dec. 2000. i was looking for info beyond what i got in my training...in that respect i was disappointed with this book. any old hands who have reading recommendations, i'd love to hear from you. also, i'm curious about what she said about CKR (historically, according to her, clockwise is for cranking up the volume, which any traditional reiki student knows is the opposite of the symbol we learned). i tried it, and it seemed to work better. any traditional reiki p.'s have any comments on this? i know the symbols vary, but this seems like a pretty significant twist.

Rating: Summary: It should be called Misinformation 101 Review: If you know nothing about Reiki, this book will spark your interest, however, there is way to much misinformation. Some of her practices are not only degrading to serious Reiki practicioners but they are also highly unethical. I believe that the Reiki attunements are a gift that is given, when you are giving attunements to rows of people at a time, you aren't giving a gift you are working in a factory. Reiki is about the one-on-one connection between teacher and student or care giver and recipient, it is something special to be shared. Reiki is fine dining but she turns it into a drive up fast food order.
Rating: Summary: Don't bother Review: If you want truth, this book is not for you. If you want misguided misinformation then by all means this book is for you. Laura is absolutely correct in her review of the book by Ms. Stein. Just a few points about the book. 1. One must question the integrity of a person who publishes sacred information. Does the Dalai Lama allow the sacred teachings to be published? 2. When you have symbols that are drawn in a precise manner to bring about a certain result and you alter or add to or "modernize" a symbol who knows what the result is. By her own admission she had strange unclear things happening and needed clearing. Ask yourself "Do I want that risk?" 3. When you are properly trained in the traditional method of teaching there absolutely is NO WAY you can attune 50 people at a time, let alone 150. You are doing an injustice to those people. A traditional teaching is at minimum 8 hours. You decide what You want. 4. Regardless of promises there is absolutely No Way to attune a person to channel Reiki from a distance. It CANNOT be done. Sure, you will feel energy, but after 24 - 48 hours it goes away. There is a review dated 12-13-00 by a gentleman who has total disregard for sacred knowledge and integrety of those who do hold these teachings as they were intended. I note the DR. in front of the reviewers name of 12-13-00, does this reviewer not charge for his services? It is no different. It is true Ms. Stein says it is the intent that shapes the outcome and the drawing of the symbols does not matter if correct or not. However, you can sit and intend and draw all you want, unless properly attuned IT DOES NOT WORK. In this Ms. Stein is totally misleading. Yes, Ms. Stein has a thing about charging. Does one forget the Universal Law of Exchange? When one gives Reiki "free" it leaves that person either beholden (perhaps that's what is intended) or with a total disregard for what was received. An exchange can be anything of value to both parties. Ms. Stein does have a way with words and it is an easy read, that is if you can get past the feminest slant so read it with an open mind. Then please read some of the other boods by Fran Brown or Helen Haberly and you will know which is of a higher intent. As in all things we have our lessons to learn and you will be led to the teacher who has the needed lesson for you. The choice is yours. Chose wisely. Rating: Summary: This book is the cure for what's wrong with REIKI! Review: This is the only Reiki manual you will ever need! Stein provides extensive, practical information that will serve you well in every aspect of your practice and study of Reiki, no matter your level, background, or belief. Most importantly, Stein reveals once and for all WHY Reiki Master Teachers who tell you that to reveal the Symbols is to diminish their effectiveness ARE LYING, INCOMPETENT, OR JUST PLAIN GREEDY! Stein explains how there is a great diversity in the appearance of symbols, that THERE IS NO RIGHT OR WRONG WAY to draw the symbols, and how that ultimately it is the intent of the practitioner that shapes the outcome and use of symbol energies. She relates in detail Dr. Usui's rediscovery of Reiki as well as the evolution FROM the freely-available healing system that it was meant to be, to the multi-million dollar guru-charged industry that it has become. Stein voids the boundaries that have kept good people from becoming Reiki Practitioners at long last by sharing every *secret* that others have used justify their charging $300, $500, $1000, and even as much as $10,000 for Reiki training!! With "Essential Reiki" not only will you learn everything there is to know about Usui Reiki and much more, but you will quickly understand why another Amazon.com reviewer who spoke so badly of this book feels so threatened by the sharing of this information. Diane Stein explains in no uncertain terms that the reason traditional Reiki Masters (RMT's) balk at the open training she provides in this book is because they see their very lucrative Reiki businesses stripped of profit potential and returned to the beautiful, simple, natural HEALING method that is simply and only for the good of all concerned. Stein even provides a clear, concise, and theoretically sound explanation of why distance attunements are not only VALID (as Mrs. Hawayo Takata herself even taught), but tend to be more powerful than in-person attunements. Ms. Stein is a Wiccan Priestess and has very clear (and apparently abundant) issues about men and things masculine, and this colors all of her opinions, sometimes strongly and offensively, but it does not change the fact that this book is everything you need to begin your study of Reiki. I heartily recommend this book to the hundreds of weekly visitors and students of the reiki-revolution.uni.cc website as there is no better FREE foundation for becoming very competent very quickly and becoming a very powerful Reiki healer. If you are serious about Reiki, this is the THE BOOK that you absolutely must have!
Rating: Summary: Full of misleading and incorrect information - Avoid! Review: I am a traditionally trained Reiki Master/Teacher who has been working with Reiki since 1995. There are many good books on Reiki out there, but this is not one of them. Among the problems I have with this book, the first is the printing of the symbols (which most traditionally trained RMTs feel is very wrong). It's not even so much that the symbols are printed (although I was taught that they are sacred and as such are not to be published), but the fact that the symbols shown are drawn incorrectly. As well, without being attuned to Reiki, the symbols are useless! I also strongly question Stein's committment when I read descriptions of her attuning many people, one after another, assembly-line style. Reiki is a practice which is best passed along from teacher to student, by a teacher who makes a committment to the student. It can't be possible to make a proper committment to train someone and follow through with them if you're attuning 50 some-odd people at once. A proper teacher realizes that her students are her responsibility for life, and that she should be there for them after their attunement, not just during. As a RMT once said to me, "We are Master Teachers, not Master Attuners." Stein also makes Reiki much more complicated than it needs to be. She adds things in where they are not needed, muddles things up, prints misinformation and presents it as truth. All this does is make people confused about what Reiki really is. And just for the record, please note that anyone who says they can make you a Reiki practitioner through the use of a "distant attunement" is either confused or outright lying. Yes, we can send distant healing, but in order to channel the healing energy of Reiki yourself, you must be attuned *in person* by a Reiki Master/Teacher. There are other good books on Reiki available out there, and I would urge anyone who wants to learn more about Reiki to seek them out, or to find a reputable RMT in their town and ask to speak to them, or even go for a sample treatment. But this book is not going to help anyone find the simple yet powerful energy that is true Reiki. Please feel free to email me if you have further questions about this book or Reiki in general.
Rating: Summary: Wicca Reiki Review: A controversial book when it came out. Partly on grounds of the authoress' outspoken feminism (which aggrivated quite a few men and women) but mostly on grounds of the authoress' story on how she almost enforced her master level and that the book showed some Reiki symbols and accounted for her method of initiating her students - which upset the traditional practitioners. Stein herself is Wiccan, and this and her views on Buddhism permeats the whole of the book which could make it difficult to discern what is what if you are totally new to spiritual practices. Despite the uncertainty about the Qigong practices in the book (if they are dangerous or not) and the fact that her sources, symbols and opinions are somewhat doubtful, this book still has helped to spread the knowledge about Reiki's existace and that it can be practiced in many different ways and for this I am grateful. This, and the fact that both text and pictures are thourough and detailed, makes this book a valuable read. The book can be used as study litterature for Reiki classes, but myself I would prefer "Reiki - The Healing Touch" by William Lee Rand for my own Reiki classes. I do not know where Stein gets her ideas on colours from, but I do not agree with her opinion that you should never use the colour white in healing. I often use white in my meditations and I can assure you that it is invaluable, soothing and very healing for me. Fear never gets you anywhere. What bothers me most with this book is Stein's fear of psychic attacks and that she spreads the fear further. I gathered that this book was supposed to deal with Reiki as a method of healing on all levels, releasing blockages and fears, but maybe I was mistaken?! Unfortunately she continues to delve even deeper into her fear of psychic attacks and alien implants in her book "Psychic Healing With Spirit Guides and Angels". Too bad...
Rating: Summary: A Great Introduction! Review: I loved this book, it is written in simple, clear and easy to understand language. In my practice I find myself quoting parts of the book, and I have reread it many times.
Rating: Summary: There's a lot of information in this book. . . Review: much of which I don't agree with. For instance: "People did not evolve on Earth, we were brought here from a variety of planetary cultures, and a number of channelers are now also describing them in their writings." Aside from Stein's metaphysical views, one must also contend with her anti-male slant. Curiously, she relies heavily on Buddhist ideas in her thinking--one wonders how she could be unaware that organized Buddhism, like the other established world religions, has its own ways of keeping women in their place, at least in the East. However, there is a lot of information about Reiki and energy work in this book that is helpful. Stein knows a lot about healing, and presents her information clearly. She truly wants her readers to succeed at healing. The information on passing attunements is very good, as is the background on the various symbols. Thus I recommend this book, even though I find some of her ideas to be rather undisciplined.
