Rating: Summary: Diane gives Reiki students/Masters a complete "overview" Review: Thank you Diane, for believing as I feel that Ki is a part of all of us and the high prices have kept many from the field of healing. I was Reiki Level 2 and having difficulty getting any info on how to go further, much less a good overview of the entire Reiki system. You book brought the fragments together for me, and after reading it cover to cover (still doing so) I found a wonderful Master/Teacher who attuned me to Master/Teacher level. Thank you for creating the ONE book I have seen so far that actually gives outlines and stops the confusion one is left with when normally doing Reiki (like, what does this mean, what do I do now?). By telling my students to buy your book first, they will have a better understanding of the entire concept.
Rating: Summary: An essential book!!! Review:
Diane Stein is my teacher's teacher. I always recommend this book to my Reiki students, not because is the best book on the subject (there's none "best"), but because is a fundamental book in the short history of Reiki. Diane made the teaching available, this is her main contribution. She disclosed it. In her text, however, she added other flavours not necessarily part of what Reiki purely is. You can disregard Taoist techniques, Wiccan rituals, Gems and Crystals, pro-Shivaist speculations and Radical Feminism, and get just to the point: Reiki is a spiritual path of healing effects, easily available. Means: don't need to buy commercial-Reiki or sectarian-Reiki, so spread out there. Most important of all: this Reiki *works*.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Reiki Information Review: This book provides the Reiki student with all the necessary information. My work is with Diane in that I travel all over the world teaching Essential Reiki, passing attunements to students on all 3 levels. I am available for teaching classes. Rating: Summary: Superficial and confusing, attending specially newcomers Review: When I discoverd her book, I got shocked by seeing the sacret simbols published for everybody. For me, it is not a sign of maturity to "break a seal of milenear tradition" but of not understanding of the reason. "Reiki is an oral tradition", Grandmaster Hawayo Takata states during her life. I believe Mrs. Stein never really understood the real meaning of it. People doing distant attunement maybe because having fear to enter into and to accept there personal responsibility in the relationship with the student. A "long distance master" does have still a personal relationship with his student? I believe not. Is Reiki just a mechanical treatment, switch on an energy so that it flows and nothing more? I believe not. It is my experience that Reiki can be much more in one's life than Mrs. Stein was able to express in her book. Upanishad K. Kessler
Rating: Summary: Thee Reiki Master Text Review: If you can have only on book on Reiki, this is the one. Diane has broken the seal of silence and freed Reiki for all. Get this book and find a teacher. If you can't find a teacher I will give you an attunement (long distance). So far I'm the only one I know doing distant attunements. I'm a Reiki Master with 6 years experience. I've asked and recieved this gift. I beleive Reiki is a birthright to be shared with all. Receive it and share it. It is a blessing for all!

Rating: Summary: Thank You Diane Review: When I first got involved with Reiki in 1992 I did the traditionall one weekend Reiki I training. After finding out that the second step was full of secret symbols that was to be burnt once you knew them I was greatly dissapointed. I sought I come across a weird sect with a beliefsystem that was not what I had thought Reiki to be. I had always thought Reiki to be something for everyone, regardless of who you are or what you do and what your belives are. This was all back in my homecountry Sweden. But then Iam very fortunate to have my sister in the US and on my visit with her in summer of 1995, I came across an ad in Reiki training. I knew then that waht I wanted to become was a Reiki Master Teacher. I wanted to spread Reiki to all people and not have my teachings beeing a secret. I called up the Reiki Master who offered his services and arranged for a meeting. The energy between us was great and I felt very comfortable in his presens. After arranging for me to be his student he handed over The Book Essential Reiki. His words where: Go home and read this book. Then come back, then we can talk.
Reading this book was a freeing experience, finally on who understood me!! I am so grateful for putting your experience down in words for others to share and to understand.
I know offcourse make sure that all my Reiki students buy and read this book and they are all loving it!!
Once again, thank you Diane
you created a wonderful book in setting Reiki free for all of us who belive that Reiki should be shared without regards.
Rating: Summary: A Woman Ahead of her Time - A Healing Modality for Our Time Review: Ms. Stein is to be commended for bringing a vital healing modality out of its shrouds of secrecy and making it available to everyone - not just men, not just persons who have thousands of dollars to pay a Reiki Master. It took a tremendous amount of courage to perform such a feat. Fanatics (usually those making lots of money by keeping Reiki "secret")threatened and terrorized Ms. Stein for wanting to help others. Clearly, her motivation for writing this book was commendable. She personally either charges nothing or very little in comparison to the majority of Reiki Masters, to pass this knowledge on to others. I find prior reviewers note that she is "selfish" to be laughable and absurd. It is interesting that some reviewers are so put off by her references to "her" instead of "he" in the book. Why should it always be "he?" No doubt male readers, used to their superior position in a patriarichal society don't like feeling that their position is being challenged. Perhaps we need some introspection to determine exactly why that reversal of word usage is so upsetting to us. The attunement process, the symbols, and the sage advise in this book are valid and they WORK. As far as her views on the origin of Reiki, the planet, etc. - who knows if she is right or wrong? How can you call a theory ridiculous when all we have are theories? You don't know the real answer - neither do I. Perhaps others would think your theory absurd. Bravo, Ms. Stein. Get this book. It has changed thousands of lives. It can change yours as well.
Rating: Summary: Space aliens to Atlantians Review: Finally a place to voice my opinion about this controversial work! I think this is a great book! Not because I think it is a complete guide to reiki, or that it has the most accurate information (even for its time), or that I think it is up to date... no I think it's a great book because the author had a vision, and she wrote the teachings of reiki down when no one else would! Not to mention how entertaining some of her wacky ideas are! And if for those alone, it is worth the read! I have enjoyed a few of Steins books, and for the most part I think she is a great teacher. I think she is a freakin' nut job, but that's ok. Having been a reiki master for going on four years now, I know that a lot of what this crazed-feminist-woo woo-spiritualist has to say is not exactly reliable information! Much of it is channeled information (that means she talked to dead people, space aliens, and/or spirit guides to get it) and her radical worldview comes shining through! As many have stated, she comes off at first as a man hater. I know she is not. But yes, she is pro-fem. And that is quite all right. The most inaccurate information in her book is the bit about reiki's history in Atlantis. Not that I have been to Atlantis, I just find it a bit silly to think that in grade school people learned level one, in middle school they learned level two, and in high school they became reiki masters. That's just kind of simplified. Sure there may have been some kind of level system to a system of healing that may have came down from space aliens to Atlantians, etc. But I just doubt it would have matched so perfectly to the three level system of Usui Reiki. I don't think her book could harm you, as long as you know you don't have to be a wiccan to practice reiki! Oh, and its ok to be a straight male to practice as well! Ha! Essential Reiki is a book that revolutionized the way reiki is practiced! It brought reiki out of the dark ages where it was almost impossible for the working class to obtain such wonderful knowledge! It helped make anyone a potential healer! It kept reiki masters honest during a time of copy write, trademark, and restriction battles! And, this book had the audacity to present the sacred symbols many elitists would have liked to keep secret! All in all it's a wonderful book, and at one time this was the boldest contribution to reiki ever seen on the planet! Be Well, Stephen Mace
Rating: Summary: True to Reiki's Essential Nature Review:
Reiki is a word that points to the the ancient and Eternal Transcendent Energy of Healing and Enlightenmet Cognized by such as Jesus and The Buddha . . . Diane Stein's book "Essential Reiki" honors these ancient traditions. While there are some departures from "traditional" Usui Reiki, for me, the Energy and Resonance is palpable in this work.
Many "secrets" of Reiki, including the "Sacred Symbols," are revealed in this wonderful book. Diane has done a great service to humanity here. Highly recommended for Reiki Students and Teachers alike.
