Summary: get ready to wake up
Review: the simplicity of the hidden influence on what keeps people from anything they want is revealed. There is for the first time among all the self help books i've ever read a workable technology to the mind

Summary: Amazing Changes
Review: This is the most workable technology for really helping someone.
I have, using the tools in this book, audited others for the joy and priviledge of seeing them become totally free of adverse attitudes, emotions, sensations and pains. One lady had always felt compelled to do as a man would tell her. When she saw the basic on this, the joy in her eyes as she became free to think for herself was amazing.
This is what this book gives: the ability to see for yourself and think for yourself. Control freaks won't like it as the last thing they wan't to see is people seeing them for what they are and freeing themselves from the slavery that gives them power

Summary: Dianetics: My personal reflections
Review: I remember how I was first offered a copy of Dianetics. I was fifteen years old. I walked by a Scientology building in my hometown. A fellow offered me a pink pamphlet and asked if I would like to come inside and take their personality test. I did. After completing the lengthly test I was told my test revealed a weakness in communications and I should take one of their courses which at the time cost twenty dollars. That was probably a lot for me but as an insecure teenager I was concerned about making a good impression in the world. So I gave them my twenty dollars. I was a little uncomfortable so I didn't schedule an appointment at the time. After a few weeks I got a letter in the mail saying, as I hadn't scheduled a session they were not refunding my money or providing the training but if I would come back into the center they would give me a free copy of Dianetics. That probably soured me on Dianetics at first because I figured if that is the way people who did Dianetics treated you I didn't want to be like that. So I didn't take them up on the book offer.

I was curious so years later I read a good portion of the book. There was a lot of theoretical information about a concept called engrams which get implanted in your brain when bad experiences happen to you. Like getting conked on the noggin when riding your bicyle. They suggest it can leave impressions on you that you misrelate to other events in everyday life. I suppose some of this could be true although a lot of it did not impress me as being useful except as theory. Dianetics is sold as a self-help book, but since using the techniques on yourself really requires an auditor to do properly, I notice a lot of people review the book as experimenting with the techniques on their friends with some success. A fellow suggested he spent twenty five hours over a span of many sessions trying Dianetics talking techniques with a friend's problem and eventually it helped her get over a long standing issue and as a side benefit she got rid of a chronic tummy ache. While this is anecdotal it got me thinking. Most people don't spend much time at all working on their problems. I wonder if just being a friend enough to someone to care to talk wouldn't be just as effective in the same or less time. Maybe if this book helps people care about other people's problems then its a good thing. I don't know.

I have encountered a lot of people who are into Dianetics and Scientology. I guess you should judge the effectiveness of the book by the people who follow it. Every so often I end up working with someone who lives by these principles and they are just as amiable and open as can be and really seem to love life. And then I keep meeting others who seem rigid, militaristic and evasive and speak using odd phrases from the book that aren't like normal people talk. I find it hard to understand how the same book can produce people who are so very different. I have also met two people on separate occasions on a phone bank who told me some spooky stories about how after reading Dianetics they got involved in a Scientology group called Sea Org and had to escape. It was weird to hear. Its not fair to evaluate the book on that basis. I didn't feel any better or any worse for having read Dianetics. In all fairness I should mention I did not finish the last third of the book which seems to deal more with implementation then the first part which deals more with theory. Fortunately or not the book was not for me and I can't really recommend it. Even if it can be read as a book on the science of the mind, people so associate the practice of Dianetics with Scientology that if one were to really get into it, I think it could help make some happier. But I think it likely in todays world it may cause some of their family members and friends some distress and unhappiness even with a lot of care and explanation. I don't think my peace of mind should come at the cost of others who care. Unless I was really messed up and my family and friends didn't like me so that they would be grateful for any change, I would put this one more towards the bottom half of the list of books to live by.

Summary: Actually Delivers
Review: When I first read this thing I thought it was like all the other fad books - but it blew me away. The third section is all about actually doing it, practical application. I have been using Dianetics for over ten years now to anything from relieving stress to overcoming personal hangups. It is the only self-help book I know that actually delivers. Check it out!

Summary: It works!
Review: I am a personal trainer and this is my review of Dianetics.

Dianetics was first released on May 9th 1950, it has remained a bestseller every year since and has now sold over 20 million copies worldwide.

Many self-help books have come and gone but Dianetics continues to go strong. Why? Because it really works!

We all know how important the mind is to exercise, it has even been said that "Your mind is your strongest muscle." Dianetics will give you a true understanding and control of your mind, it shows you how to locate the blocks and barriers to your full potential and totally handle them. I believe this book should be part of everyone's library. ....

Summary: Dianetics saved me
Review: I had been searching for some answers about life, all my life. (I'm 64.) ....from one thing to another. Why was my brother more successful than me? Why could he handle the problems of living better than I could? Why did he make better choices than me? We were equal intelligence, raised by the same Mother and Father. Finally, in 1992, Dianetics was recommended to me by my son. What do you know! It was there all along. To think that Dianetics came out in 1950, and I had lived my whole adult life with all the answers right there at my fingertips. My mother died with alzheimers. And I was on my way to having the same thing. By applying what I learned in Dianetics, all the symptoms disappeared. My only regret is that I didn't find it in time to help my mother.

Summary: Dianetics - Try it, you'll like it !
Review: "Dianetics" by L. Ron Hubbard is among the most interesting books I have read. It is a self help guide to a saner life. I am sure others would argue the opposite case to be truer, but I don't. "SURVIVE" is the command according to Hubbard, that all life obeys. The mind, divided into two opposing enities, the analytical and the reactive. The first logical and the latter not. Physical and emotional pain with a level of unconsciousness however slight produces engrams (the problem maker). The analytical mind works with difficulty when opposing engrams. Auditing clears these engrams, and a "Clear" is the end result. So there we have it, Pro Survival vs. Counter Survival forces and a methodology to win. The thought process is complex to be sure and SANITY the desired state of being. This book offers theories and workable solutions. I have read many of Hubbard's books on Dianetics and listened to Dianetic audio tapes as well. Read the book and see for youself.... "And may you never be the same, again". (LRH)

Summary: Dianetics is incredible!
Review: I can honestly say after reading Dianetics that the mind is comprehensible. I've read many books on the subject of the mind and I was more confused after reading them than before. Dianetics gives you the solution to rid yourself of that part of the mind that's wrecking your life. I would recommend it to anyone and it is a MUST!

Summary: Increased self confidence
Review: What I loved most about Dianetics, the Modern Science of Mental Health was *using it*. I had a good friend who had never gotten over having his fiancee break up with him. He couldn't handle relationships after that -- afraid of getting burned again. We addressed this with Dianetics. What a change in him! Another friend was a Viet Nam vet. He was so ashamed of what he had done in that war, he couldn't forgive himself. After we used this technology he was able to come to grips with this part of his life and get on with living again. These are only two out of hundreds of people I've helped using the technology in this book. And it is very simple and easy to learn.

Summary: Helped me handle a drug problem
Review: I had stopped taking drugs because they had started making me feel awful. I wanted to change back to how I felt before, but couldn't find any answers. Then a friend gave me the Dianetics book. I read the first few chapters and realized what had happened. After applying what I learned in the book I felt like I had a new life. I have used it to help a lot of my friends too,and it works so well. I can't recommend it too highly.
