Summary: Fabulous!
Review: Finally a resource that tells me really what Scientology is. I picked this up while browsing through the Self Help section at my local bookstore. I was at a dead end in my life and I had heard of Scientology before from a friend. She had told me it's a terrible cult.

After reading this, I was amazed she could think such a thing! This is a great book that's helped me tremendously! Thank you L. Ron Hubbard!

I have no doubts.

Summary: A VERY GOOD BOOK!
Review: I have just read this book and found it absolutely amazing! The information in it makes sense and actually works if you apply it exactly. There is infomation in this book that you will find nowhere else. The other thing that this book has is something that you can DO after you have read the book. The principles and data in the book can be applied immediately by the reader. Buy this book and read it. You will understand what I am saying.

Summary: Simple, effective procedure - anyone can learn to do this!
Review: In this book, Hubbard explains the workings of the mind (not the brain) itself - how the pieces actually fit together, what memories have to do with things like psychosomatic illnesses, irrational fears, unwanted emotions, etc.

He not only explains how this all fits together, but he provides us with a relatively simple process for resolving the unwanted aspects of the mind!

A rather advanced vocabulary is used in this book - I understand it was originally written for physicians. So if you're unused to reading medical or scientific textbooks you will probably find it helpful to keep a dictionary at your side, and use it liberally.

There is also a video that explains the process well - "How to Use Dianetics". That goes a long way in explaining the process.

I have had great results using this process on my friends and family. It's been really, really fun - and knowing you've helped someone you love is priceless!

Highly recommended.

Summary: If you are of African descent...
Review: Dianetics makes laughable attempts to sound "scientific" by using obscure words to express mundane ideas while at the same time completely ignoring the basics of scientific method. The book also contains several frightening examples of cultural bias. Potential readers should be aware of them.

Perhaps the most disturbing example is on page 195, wherein Mr. Hubbard discusses the Zulu tribe of Africa. According to Mr. Hubbard, the Zulu would escape his "reactive data" if he were moved out of his "restimulative" area and taught English. But left in his native habitat, a "Zulu is only outside the bars of a madhouse because there are no madhouses provided by his tribe."

This could be dismissed as an anomaly if there weren't several other examples of this kind of frightening generalization. For example, on page 149 Mr. Hubbard asserts that homosexuals can be shown to have either overdeveloped or underdeveloped genitalia.

The book is ludicrous scientifically, and a nightmare as a piece of social commentary. Avoid.

Summary: Good introduction to self help
Review: A friend recommended Dianetics to me, and I'm glad he did. It was a good introduction to the whole "self help" philosophy. It seems that this was the FIRST self help book of the whole modern movement, and the most popular at that. You'll learn a lot from Dianetics, about stress, chronic life problems, health problems, relationships. Its helped my life considerably.

Summary: Well - It worked for me.
Review: I studied many things before I ran across Dianetics.

What can I say - what I experienced when I sat down to receive the counseling as described in this book... was exactly what Hubbard spoke about in the book.

It works! That's all I was looking for!

Read it and see for yourself.

Summary: dianetics the modern science of mental health
Review: I can not believe I found out how the mind works and it makes such sense! You hear all these complicated things about the mind and they are just not true. When you see the truth it hits you like, "Wow! Of course it's that way!" It works and I can use it with my friends to make them more confident too.
