Summary: A wonderful book for beginners
Review: This book is a wonderful way to begin the learning of Yoga. It gives very clear directions on how to properly execute each position, and the illustrations leave no doubt as to the correct way to proceed with the different poses. It is very simple to use, and it has brought me personally a way to escape stress each day. After using it for a while now, I find myself a lot more flexible, and in much better physical shape than when I started. It encourages a healthy eating style and it emphasizes the importance of proper breathing, nutrition, sleep, and toning. Following the program is a wonderful way to accomplish deep stretching in many key areas of the body. Tension disappears and one is left with a blissful and elevated feeling. Following the program will leave anyone energized, relaxed, happier, more peaceful, and more emotionally 'elevated' and stable. Each daily workout does take a little over an hour though, not 20 minutes as advertised, but it is worth it!

Summary: Good introduction into the world of hatha yoga.
Review: This is a great way to discover the wonders of hatha yoga. The descriptions of a few of the excersizes are hard to follow, but there are hundreds of illustrations to help in getting each movement right. Although it advertises only a 20-30 minute workout each day, plan on spending longer after the first week. You should notice signicant increases in flexibility within just a couple weeks. The book should be followed with a more extensive book on hatha yoga, to get a better understanding of yoga and its effects.

Summary: Richard Hittleman's Yoga: 28 Day Plan
Review: This is book is one of the most valuable I have ever read. The simple, easy to follow instructions, culminating in a logical three day cycle of exercises has been the basis of a daily morning ritual I have followed for more than a decade. The gentle exercises taught in this book have been the foundation for whatever other physical activity strikes my fancy--kayaking, golf, weight training, triathlon, mountain biking, etc. For anyone wanting literally to stretch themselves physically, this little book is worth its weight in gold.

Summary: A great book for beginners
Review: This is the best yoga book for beginners I have ever seen. It is written for anyone who wants to learn yoga at home without a teacher's instruction. In more than 600 photographs Hittleman teaches the asanas step by step. He starts with simple poses, explains and shows clearly how they can be achieved and builds up until you reach more advanced poses.

At the end of each practice day, the author discusses subjects such as diet, breathing, meditation, weight control, etc. Although the exercises are equally useful to women and men, some of the discussions focus on women.

With this book you can learn yoga at home. Once you have finished the well structured 28-day program, you can continue yoga for the rest of your life with the three practice sessions provided at the end of the book. I have been practicing yoga for years and have built up my own routine from the book. I have looked at other books, but I have never found a better one.

Summary: Excellent! Bravo
Review: This little book is so helpful. I have dabbled with yoga for years; buying tapes and other books without being able to fully grasp the art. I've also tried many of the other exercise products on the market. But this book has enable me to accomplish so much in such a short period of time. The instructions are simple and clear and the pictures show you exactly how to execute the poses. I have just complete the 28 day plan and I see a tremendous difference in my health and my energy. What is a bonus in the book is the explanations given at the end of each day. If you're thinking about doing yoga, this book is a must have.

Summary: Try this program - you'll love it. Don't strain!
Review: This version is identical to Richard Hittleman's same-title paperback that's smaller is size. When I picked up this book at a used book store, I was jogging/running 4x per week, 3 miles each run. I had experienced a great relief of physical and emotional stress in the running, but I was interested in increasing my flexibility and grace. I did "my yoga" after running, and I was shocked to find, as I faithfully followed the program, how much tension had remained in my joints, muscles, etc., even after running. My mental, physical and emotional states all improved dramatically with this yoga program -- so much so that I thought I had found the fountain of youth, that I had discovered my true being. I did injure my knees with the "bow" -- the book's single inadequacy is its lack of precautionary advice and remedies for injuries. I have looked at other yoga books and this is by far the best in terms of succinct information, very good instruction, and a progressive program.

Summary: My Favorite Yoga Book
Review: This yoga book is beyond any doubt my absolute favorite. In fact, I've worn out two copies and am on my third! I've tried other yoga books and videos, but this is the one I turn to again and again. I like the idea of being able to progress through a program in 28 days; I always feel a HUGE difference in my posture, flexibility and toning by the end of the month.

Just a note-- I recently saw Hittleman's "Yoga For Health" book, which is also excellent, giving great advice on diet, meditation, and more in-depth commentary on each asana (plus three different routines, in case you get tired of those provided in the 28 day plan).

Summary: Changed my life
Review: Yes, it did. I have attained great physical and mental shape after practicing the routine for more than a year. The beauty of this program is that it fits into your hectic schedule. It does not require more than 40 minutes a day and the benefit you get out of it is enormous. The program is very well organinzed and it is amazing how well you can learn from a book without the help of a live teacher. I wish Richard was still alive to guide me to move to the next level.
