Review: In the early 80's, as a teenager, I had this book out from the library and renewed and renewed my loan until I thought I'd better take it back for a week or so for decency's sake. A week later the book was gone, never to be returned and I have spent years looking for it again, under the mistaken impression that the author was Heinemann rather than Hittleman. What a joy to stumble across it in Amazon! As per all the previous reviews, it is a remarkably simple, user-friendly, veritable bible of a yoga programme. The effects, suppleness and tranquility amongst them, are almost immediate. It has to be one of the best yoga books available considering its publication date and its continued rave reviews. If you're looking for a motivating start to yoga or a continuing daily programme of yoga for home use, this is it.

Alhough we haven't actually made it through all 28 days, we are up to Day 16 and hope in two more years we may complete the entire program! The book is wonderful for 40-50 somethings like us, and allows us to work at a comfortable (slow!)pace.

I have already noticed a difference in my posture, I'm less stiff and have lost and inch in my waist in one week. Even though I'm overweight in bad shape the book is very well paced and easy to follow. It has alternative positions if some are too hard to obtain but isn't too slow for advanced people. It helps me reach positions I couldn't the day before and strech and use muscles I haven't used in a long time. I would recomend this book to absolutely anyone who wanted to try yoga, for young, old, healthy, and unhealthy people.

Beautiful photographs make the workouts accelerate Yoga system ideal for all ages. Alongwith the Practice Plans are Thoughts of the Day that make one Think wise, right and continue with the two major Yoga practice in this book - Raja Yoga i.e. Meditation and Hatha Yoga i.e. Physical. Its objective is to cultivate the natural beauty of body and attain high health state. Achieve self Realization too. This book is exceptional because when I used this, the illustrated pics were much easier to follow alongwith the instructions and thats so cool about it especially when one is lazy to go out for Workouts to gym, do aerobics or whatever. This book instructions can be followed in own room space at own pace of time and keep fit, high spirited and maintain proper balance, concentration and control of mind. A good pick.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A Good Place To Start Review: Overall this is a very good book for yoga beginners. Each pose has photographs and text to describe it, plus an overview of the purpose of the pose. Most of the poses (or simple variations of them) are within reach of the average out-of-shape person. The only real problem with the book is at the very end. The author leaves the student with sets of poses to practice on a three day cycle. The practice sets are helpful, but they're not enough to carry the student forward. So go ahead and start with this book; you will feel better. But at the end, don't forget to seek out new information and perspectives so that you can continue to make progress.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Classic Reference - Spans Generations Review: Richard Hittleman wrote a classic yoga instruction book for beginners. When I bought this book, I was skeptical. Learn yoga at home, alone? Yes, it worked. The photos and instructions are enough. I practiced twice a day, once in the morning by myself and then in the evening with my husband, before dinner. Yoga is a good transition, either into the day or from work to home. I was so happy with this practice that I told my mother about it. As it turns out, Richard Hittleman and Jack LaLanne were her two exerise mentors on TV in the 60's. She knew about him before I did. Then I told a friend. Unbeknownst to me, she had the book years before I did. Although she had stopped practicing yoga for many years, she had resumed with this 28-day plan about the same time I began it for the first time. Because of this book, I enjoy practicing yoga. Although I also have some excellent yoga videos, the 28-day plan is a quiet winner.

Review: The exercises provide a good overall workout and they start out easy enough for any beginner. The content is great but I have a hard time working from a book. Is there a video?!

Seeing pictures of various postures - I hadn't a clue!!! Also learning about the connection of breath to movement; when to inhale and when to exhale was invaluable and supported my road to health by a major quantum leap. Thx for this opportunity to express my appreciation to a man and his work that truly did transform my life, from paralysis to vitality, in the '70s. Yoga is not something I do, but a "way of life" for me. P.S. I surely wish his video's were still available, and if anyone knows of a webpage for him I would be most grateful for the info.

I'm now 33 and get compliments all the time I don't look it and I STILL got my six pack! Thanks Richard! Glad I found it again. Loaned mine out and never got it back, although I wrote all the postures down, my dog really did eat my paper!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Excellent introduction to hatha yoga Review: This book is a timeless source for learning hatha yoga and its many benefits. The text and photos give detailed descriptions of the many positions(asanas) and the benefits to be gained from each so that you can tune a program to fit your specific needs and/or goals. The programs I have developed from reading this book have always been less than one hour in duration and leave me refreshed and energetic.
