Rating: Summary: An Enjoyable Read! Review: The person who titled their review "This Book Left Me Baffled" dated March 28, 2000, is being a bit unfair to Mr. Dyer. His exact statement from the introduction to this book reads as follows: "As I wrote each of these essays, I looked at a portrait or photograph of the teacher I was highlighting and I would literally ask the individual, 'What would you like those of us here today to know?'---and I would listen and surrender. I allowed myself to experience their guidance and my writing became almost automatic. It may sound strange, but I actually felt the presence of those writers and poets with me as I wrote each of these sixty pieces." I personally don't see anything at all occult about this approach. Mr. Dyer did thorough research for each article, as he explains in the text of the book, and, in my opinion is simply stating that he was seeking inspiration before writing each essay. I highly recommend this book. Mr. Dyer has done a remarkable job of extracting gems of wisdom from 60 of the really great minds who came before us and explaining usually in 3-4 pages what he thinks they were trying to tell us. Buy the book. It's easy to read and worth the investment in time and money. I don't agree with everything he says, but he has certainly made me rethink some of my opinions.
Rating: Summary: Doesn't Make Sense Review: The rules of yesterday do not work for my generation. The World Trade Center has ruined all hope, and changes everything. Why bother to live day by day if it can all go away in one minute? n The ancient widsom is not about bombs which did not exist at that time.
Rating: Summary: Inspirational! Review: The title of this book truly fits the contents, because he *literally* goes back through the ages, pulling and gleaning wisdom from those that have gone before us. And what a delightful trek it is! Very insightful, quite educational and totally readable, Dr. Dyer makes "ancient" wisdom applicable today, showing again, that we (humanity) are much more alike than we are different. Read as a whole or as separate little devotionals, it's a wonderful book of inspiration for all of us today.
Rating: Summary: Wisdom of the Ages: 60 Days to Enlightenment Review: This book is easy to read, and easy to use, and should be a must read for everyone wanting to improve and enhance one's life. It is an easy guide drawing from the rich history of sages from the past, some distant and some not so distant. I would recommend it as a great gift to anyone, but especially for family members who could read it together and then discuss it. It's that easy to read.
Rating: Summary: So Deep You Never Want to Resurface Review: This book is simply amazing. Such profound words of wisdom from teachers that span such a large timeframe! I could not read beyond a couple of chapters at a time because I needed the time to assimilate all the information. I wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything and made it all a part of my life. The author is repetitive at times, but the end experience is still worth it! MUST read.
Rating: Summary: Bringing poetry down to earth Review: This is an enjoyable collection of poetry with plain, everyday explanations and interpretations. However, in his attempt to be plain, some complexities and intellectual aspects remain hidden. The author expresses some unconventional ideas that I simply disregarded. Overall, the selection and presentation make it an inspiring book.
Rating: Summary: He lets in the light to closed minds. It's relevant to all. Review: This is an Everyperson book. Wayne Dyer gives a clear insight into some of the greatest minds of all time and helps you to try and follow the advice of these sages. A great way to find some peace of mind. For an everyday pick-me-up it beats most other things hands down.
Rating: Summary: An Enjoyable Read Review: This is one of my favorite books, and I have given it as a gift to many people over the years. There is a bit of relevant wisdom for anyone and everyone--regardless of age and life experiences.
Rating: Summary: Applying eternal wisdom in to your daily life Review: This is the most important book I have published in my entire career. I experienced automatic writing as I worked on this collection of essays interpreting the words of some of the greatest teachers in my life. Not one of these sixty great masters died with their music still in them. They were all people of great passion. My method of completing these essays was to work for a twenty four hour period on each of these chapters. I would wake up very early in the morning and read for eight hours about the lives of the particular person I was writing about on that day. Then I would go for a long walk along the beach and contemplate what I had learned. In the afternoon I would read as much of their work as I could for another eight hours, immersing myself in their writings. After meditating for an hour I would look at a photograph, drawing or engraving of the teacher and I would literally make conscious contact by asking the question, "What would you like to say to those of us who are here on Earth today?" I would then listen and experience automatic writing. It was the most blissful, easy and rewearding experience of my writing career. The result is sixty interpretations of the wisdom of the ages and how you can apply this wisdom in your life, beginning today. The most unique thing about all of these masterful people is refliected in the folowing observation of mine.. Society seems to honor its living conformists and its dead trouble makers. Their message to you is reflected in all of these brief essays..."Don't you dare die with your music still in you."
Rating: Summary: A True Awakening Review: This is truly a fantastic concept in pairing the wisdom of Dr Dyer with that of other brilliant communicators of history. The message has always been the same. This message as clarified by Dr Dyer awakens one to the true nature of our existance. I will need more copies of this book because I fully intend to wear it out by reading it to my children and grandchildren. What a special gift we have been given in Dr Dyer.
