Summary: Hard to use, but good information
Review:

Written by two PhDs, this is a very good book on the subject of self-hypnosis> I have a dozen books on the subject, and I think this is the best. Stop smoking, lose weight, gain confidence in yourself, whatever you wish to do that your mind can control (and believe me, the mind can control almost all aspects of human behavior), this book will help you.

Many years ago, I hypnotized a 70+ year old man--a friend--who had arthritis, and suggested to him that his pain would be relieved--and it was! That was my first attempt. He was very grateful.

I am not a hypnotist. But it does work, and it did for me on the first try. We all suggest things to ourselves every day. Things like, "I've always been heavy," or "I just am not coordinated and never have been," both are negative suggestions which, if you state them often enough convice you that they are true, and they become true. I have a friend with a PhD in philosophy and a dcotorate in medicine who has talked himself into believing that he is a "physical coward," and so, of course, he is. What nonsense!

Why not use positive self-images, instead?

Anyway, this book will teach you valid methods to enhance your life. Try it!

Summary: Best Self-Hypnosis Book
Review: A experienced hypnotist, with 16 years experience as a forensic hypnotist for a police department, told me this is the best book on the subject. I am now reading the book and it is great. The beginning contains the best definition of hypnosis I've seen.

Summary: Great book for Self-Hypnosis
Review: As a Clinical Hypnotherapist - this book is the first one on the list of books I recommend to anyone interested in self-hypnosis. I consider it one of the best books on self-hypnosis. It is very well written and it covers vast range of topics whether you desire to lose weight, stop smoking, increase self-confidence, manage pain, reduce stress or just about anything else.

Summary: I agree
Review: Having read some of the reviews for this, I must say I agree with all of them. Perhaps it is less about whether this is a 'great book' and more about who might value what it offers the most.
I suspect that the format of the book was developed from a live training format. It builds from beginning with ideas which are developed again and again in different contexts. Just reading the book may leave you struggling to distill the main concepts, perhaps feeling a little overwhelmed and confused about where to start.
There are suggested scripts and ideas for entering trance, but much of the information is presented as examples of how the information might be developed and made personal to the reader. There are many books out there which will supply scripts for particular problems. If this is what you want, then you may prefer to start somewhere else or at least supplement this book with another.
Perhaps you are interested in exploring your own eperiences, even using your current 'problem' as a means to that end . If so, then I am sure that you, like me, will find this a great book to keep coming back to; for ideas and inspiration. I think Milton Erickson stated something like, that given about 14hrs of bullding skills in hypnosis many peoples problems would accidentally 'cure' themselves.

Summary: Easy-to-read, non-technical, many uses, a good value.
Review: This book explains what self-hypnosis and hypnosis in general is about and how to do it. It is layed out very well and easy to understand. The writers provide instructions for applying the method to many different problems. I bought it for stress and found I also used the anxiety and the teethgrinding instructions with good results, and my wife used the pain control part for a low back pain that flares up occasionally. I've loaned my copy to several friends over the past year who've gotten very good results. There's a lot in the bood for the money. --GP Minneapolis

Summary: Hard to use, but good information
Review: This book has some wonderful information about self-hypnosis. In fact, as a textbook on the subject, I think it's excellent. But if you're planning on actually using the info for practical results, this isn't the best book. There are other books on self-hypnosis that have a more easy-to-follow approach to achieving your goals.

Summary: Most excellent exposition on the theories of hypnotism
Review: This book is an excellent guide to help in self-hypnosis if that is all you are looking for. In my opinion, it is far better to take one more step futher and use yoga practice as well. Yoga is basically the foundation of self-hypnotism and there are several good books available on Amazon that have these techniques. Look at some of my other reviews to find out.

However, being focused on hypnotism by itself, it is an excellent document which helps customize the process to the needs of the potential operator of these sessions. It is insightful and helful. Still I think it is far more beneficial for anyone seeking self-hypnotism to seek yoga following reading this book.
