Rating: Summary: Awesome creativity tool Review: Originally, I used mind mapping to help me write. Mind mapping has cut my writing time to half or less. Indeed, when getting stuck on a plot, I am able to smoothly come up with solutions when using mind mapping. Although I learned mind mapping from others, this book vastly clarified my understanding of the tool. Plus, the book gives many applications I had not thought of such as decision making and brainstorming. Since I live in a part of the country where just getting more than two people together for a brainstorming session would be miraculous, Buzan's method is, for me, a wonderful gift. I have increased my productivity maybe five fold. This book is fun and colorful, making it a joy to read. I totally disagree with the negative reviews. This is one of the most useful books I own.
Rating: Summary: It just drags on Review: Apparently mind mapping works for about 50% of the population. I must be in the 50% would it does not work for. Book just goes on and on explaining the same stuff over and over again. It could have been a lot shorter. I tried to use it and gave it a good wack but nothing really. To me it was a waste of time but its is a very colorful book filled with pretty pictures. Going though it I felt that I would not mind purchasing a few.
Rating: Summary: What a shame! Review: The Mind Map Book tells us how to use radiant thinking to maximize our untapped potential. Presented clearly and colorfully, in linear manner, we are guided through the process of making our own mind-maps so that we can improve our memory, concentration and creativity in planning and structuring our thoughts. Do you need to buy the book? Basically - no. When I was a student, some twenty years ago, I remember meeting a very keen proponent of mind maps in the laundry, and what I learned from him in twenty minutes was enough. Also, there are enough traveling professors in this world who are just aching to tell you how much you can do with an addled brain and set of colored felt-tips that buying this book is really not worth your while. What is good about the book, is that it does tell you clearly and methodically how to create mind maps of good design. What is bad about the book is the relentless sales pitch. Virtually everything spiral or fractal that occurs in nature gets a full color plate, and there are lists of doodles from the famous that you can test your intelligence as to who the creator was (hardly mind maps). Finally, there is a long list of merchandise that mind map fans can buy if they are so inclined. You can even send a donation of at least $10 to the author so that you can aid him in building his money-making centers! Come on Tony. The only radial thinking that you're doing is in the numbers that spiral around your head every time you go to the bank.
Rating: Summary: Very Informative Review: Having read some of the other somewhat negative reviews, I want to say this: yes, the subject matter is somewhat simple. The concepts are not difficult, but the practice takes some learning. What I found extremely helpful were the scores of maps dones by expert mind mappers from all walks of life. That really helped me get a feel for how to use this tool. Plus all the plates of 'natural architecture.' This may not be the best book for delving into the theory of mind mapping, but is excellent if what you mainly want to do is practice it.
Rating: Summary: Interesting but ultimately disappointing Review: I was introduced to Mind Maps in a short class I took in Austin Texas on concentration. The teacher was recommending this book like it was the greatest discovery since sliced bread. I must admit, I find mind maps fascinating and very useful, but this book was kind of a waste. Well, it is a waste because the points are hasshed and rehashed time and time again with no real insight offered into the technique. For those who have not been exposed to Mind Maps, Mr. Buzans other books are more help ful. For those who have been exposed to Mind Maps, this book is a disappointment. I would hope that mind maps and radiant think would be capable of inspiring the author to great depths and heights.
Rating: Summary: The Mind Map Book : How to Use Radiant Thinking to Maximize Review: This is a concept that I first discovered from Rick Steves when taking a trip to Europe. For allot of people it is easier to organize your thoughts with a series of pictures than by trying to memororize or organize your thought patterns by a rote memorization. This book shows you in full detail the various ways that you can create a mind map and how this can be helpful in all subjects. I am teaching my oldest daughter this concept in the hopes that she can remember the details of things that she has to memorize better if she can picture the picture in her mind.
Rating: Summary: Fast Ideas Fast Review: Mr. Buzan and his brother offer writer's the tool needed to create and formulate ideas, organize plans, and chart organizational structures fast. It begins with one word, and as such continues to create a web of activity. I used to run out of ideas and subjects on which to write, now, after reading the Mind Map Book its so useful, revealing, and certainly productive. If you find yourself being the initiator or just enjoy feeding the muse, I have two words for you. "Buy it!" Find out how the mind works.
Rating: Summary: Elementary Review: This is an elementary book that insults one's intelligence. Buzan has written some worthwhile books. This is not one of them. It's a rehash of all his earlier works and is highly disappointing.
Rating: Summary: Excellent buy for researchers Review: If you are a business researcher, this is one of those "must have" titles on your bookshelf. I've used the ideas in this book with Mindman software, with worthwhile results.
Rating: Summary: uninspiring! Review: I was expecting this book to inspire me and enlighten me as to how to unleash the powers of my brain. The author drags on and on on how to organise notes and diagram ideas but failed to captivate my attention past the second chapter. It makes for tedious reading and is more than likely more suitable for experts in mind mapping. If your are new to the topic, like I am, then this book is not for you. Don't waste your money!
