Rating: Summary: A Truth So Simple... Review: Tolle drew the gems from an earlier, marred work, and created a book that you will want to read and reread time and again. It has the power to change you each time you read it, to be more true to yourself and everyone else. The simplicity of the revelation is clear and applicable to every life. If you only read one book on spirituallty, or on psychology, or on how to "know thyself," let it be this one.
Rating: Summary: Nice Concise Version of Power of Now. Excellent Material Review: Tolle is one of the better writers in this area. This concise form of the Power of Now is a great place to start. The excercises are very good and the book teaches on many levels. Worth every penny. I read some harsh critical reviews for this book and respect the other opinions but can assure you that there is plenty here for even the most advanced people. Another book that comes at things at a different angle, also very concisely, and offers great ideas, exercises, and powerful words that teach in many levels is "Effortless Wellbeing: The Missing Ingredients for Authentic Wellness" by Evan Finer. Both HIGHLY Recommended!!
Rating: Summary: Porta-copy NOW available Review: Tolle's new publication is a tidy, Cliff Notes version of his original text. It's great for travel and fits in most handbags. Helped me focus more quickly on living in the present moment; when I need elaborations on a meditation or practice I refer to his earlier book which renders extensive material and commentary on various topics. I would encourage other Tolle enthusiasts to read the new book first.
Rating: Summary: This book could put your therapist out of business. Review: Warning...this is a great book. It could put your therapist out of business. Working on yourself DOES work.
Rating: Summary: You mean I don¿t have to fix myself? Review: What a pleasure to read a book that encourages me to just continue being me, with one key suggestion: that I observe myself without judgment. Tolle presents this book as a simplified and condensed version of THE POWER OF NOW, his original bestseller. The tone is simple, gentle, and powerful. It's all about getting into the moment, where the magic and joy of life reside. I was very intrigued by Tolle's description of time as something that only exists in the mind, in the past or future. There is no time in the present, he points out, and by leaving the moment, we create more psychological time. I had never looked at this way. I also liked his emphasis on reconnecting with oneself by observing the sensations in one's body - this struck a chord with me. In a world awash with tips on how to get better, it's an immense relief to read something that opens your eyes to how perfect you already are. I strongly suggest complementing this book with WORKING ON YOURSELF DOESN'T WORK by Ariel and Shya Kane, another excellent publication that actually facilitates you in the day-to-day practice of living in the moment, where passion, satisfaction, and love are unlimited.
Rating: Summary: High Expectations Review: When I learned that Eckhart Tolle had a new book out, I ordered it instantly and was counting the days until it arrived: I had found his POWER OF NOW to be so affecting and right and altogether helpful that I looked forward avidly to its follow-up. But to me PRACTICING THE POWER OF NOW is a sorry disappointment. It purports to be "essential teachings, meditations, and exercises" excerpted from the original book -- a reasonable, if slim, premise for a separate volume of the same material-- but in fact it has been put together in such a way that it's muddled and even without the "presence" that contributes to the power of the first book. Perhaps if Eckhart had produced even a little new material specifically for its new format, it could have worked as a conciser version. As it is, to a reader of the first book, it's confounding, and to a new reader, I imagine it would be incomprehensible. Eckhart's teachings are certainly 5 star, this book a discouraging 1 star. For a profoundly moving experience, instead read the superlative, exceptionally important POWER OF NOW.
Rating: Summary: Did nothing for me Review: When I read this book, I found it to be very true. But I have never managed to integrate it into my daily life. I have tried just to do nothing, be present, and it tires me. It seems to me that his method of finding peace is to force it. It also seems to me to be a very apathetic way of life.
I do not think this book is all crap, but it is way too extreme to be adapted for most humans. Of course it is good to be present, and not to be concerned too much about the past and future, but I rather suggest something in between what "normal" people do and Tolle's teachings, than to take things to its extremes.
As many already have mentioned, this book is a repetitive zen ripoff. For people who are not familiar with this kind of books, I suggest reading something a little less extreme. This book can be dangerous.
Rating: Summary: life changing Review: words to live by, words to embody. my perspective on life expands every time I listen to these words by Eckhart Tolle. And as my understanding grows, Life becomes more enriching. words to last for lifetimes.
Rating: Summary: an excellent referance book Review: Yes, this book is an abridgement of the original. But I enjoy it more because I do not want to have to wade through the original to get to the core concepts. I myself would read this many times over before picking up the original again, its just a nice quick outtake on all the things that made the original great!
