I started getting interested in how to start a small club ever since martial arts was becoming more focused on as a form of aerobic exercise. I found this book to be very helpful and informative. Not only does it thoroughly explain the legal, taxes and certification necessary to start a small club, but it also sheds light on retaining members and promoting the club. I read many health and fitness books and was looking for something I could use as a guide in starting a small club. This book is going to help me do that from start to finish. Very informative book.

I started getting interested in how to start a small club ever since the 'Tae Bo' craze began. I found this book to be very insightful. Not only does it thoroughly explain the legal aspects necessary to start a small club, but it also covers everything from taxation and certification. It also sheds light on how to retain members and promote your club. Starting a club as a business has to go beyond my knowing all I can about health and fitness. I read every book I can get my hands on about these subjects. However, I needed a tool to help me start a club from the ground up. After reading this text I now realize that it takes strategic planning. You have to cover yourself legally and also retain membership while promoting the club to draw in new memberships. I did not know how to begin, and now I can honestly say that the tools in this book will take me from start to end. Very useful book. I highly recommend it.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Not bad, but needed to go more in depth... Review: I am a personal trainer who has been thinking of opening my own small club since the first day I became a personal trainer. I picked up this book hoping to get some insight on what I could expect if I actually tried to open a club. This book is OK but I was really hoping for an in depth, step by step guide for what needs to be done to get the business from the idea and planning stage and turn it into reality. Anyone who has been involved with personal training for a while or has been seriously thinking about opening a club will have thought about a lot of the topics discussed in this book. This book seems to just scratch the surface of many of the topics that need to be considered when opening a business. It's a short book and an easy read so if you just want to get an idea of some of the things you may be up against and you have not really thought about opening a business, this may be good for you. People who have seriously thought about and planned for years about what their future club will be like, may need a more comprehensive resource.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Anna Smith Review: In researching my new idea to open a small gym, I was overwhelmed with information on the web and after perusing the SBA website and printing a full 3-ring binder's worth of research articles off the internet until I LUCKILY found this book. I was stunned to come across a book especially designed to guide me in my new idea to open a small gym. Then I was surprised at how completely applicable it was and how informative and practical the information was-these guys really share their secrets to success! Its a step by step easy to read well thought out book that guides your thoughts and decisions by helping you build a business plan based on your personal principles and desires for your gym. Its nothing short of amazing, and easily the most important bit of research I have done. I read the book and treated it like a text book, taking notes and when answering every question and carefully thinking about each point they recommend considering sot hat I read a little bit each day and wrote a lot and hammered out my own ideas in the process. I had all the ideas, but had not articulated them, organized them and nd built on them until I read this book. I am now 6 to 8 months from opening my gym but after reading this book, I have now articulated my true reasons for opening my own gym, and kept those reasons firmly in mind as I have analyzed my target market, competition and developed the marketing plan. I feel I am head and shoulders above most small business owners when they start out. I look forward to reporting back with the huge success of my new small gym!! Thanks to Ron and Barb Fay for not only sharing their experiences and lessons learned from them but for presenting these lessons clearly and in a concise book that gets the job done.
