Summary: This is a MUST-READ book!!!!
Review: A friend recently lent me NAOMI'S BREAKTHROUGH GUIDE by Naomi Judd, and I began regretting that fact shortly after page 1 . . . the reason: there were many times that I wanted to jot down notes in the borrowed volume; in fact, I just might have to break down and purchase my own copy . . . it's that good a book!

I vaguely recalled that Judd had managed to recover from hepatitis C . . . what I did not know was how she managed to accomplish this task . . . furthermore, I did not know she had missed her high school graduation to deliver her first child, nor that she had endured domestic violence, lived on welfare and put herself through nursing school.

As she herself notes, "A dead end is just a good place to turn around" . . . this inspirational book's subtitle shows how she did it; if you make the [necessary] 20 CHOICES TO TRANSFORM
YOUR LIFE.

I loved her use of both personal experience and the latest mind/body/spirit research . . . furthermore, it felt like was she was talking directly to me.

There were several memorable passages; among them:
I was one angry patient when I experienced firsthand the grim reality of what's wrong with our health care system. (I refer to it as the "wealth care system.") I naively expected managed care to manage to care! Rather than asking how I was feeling physically, emotionally, mentally, or
spiritually, the first question anyone asked was "Who's your insurance carrier?" Even though I'm a nurse, I was shocked. I'm now fully aware that our medical system needs healing. I want to be part of helping medicine treat the whole person and teach prevention and wellness. You may not be facing a medical crisis. But whatever mental, emotional, physical, or spiritual challenges your are now facing, I'm offering information, hope, and comfort in these pages. I'm sentencing you to live.

Then when you feel you're both ready to approach a potentially tricky topic, pick your time and place. Establish communication rules ahead of time. (Our family finally learned and excellent way to allow the other person to have their say. It acknowledges their feelings without denying yours. We say, "Tell me more about your perception, because that's not my reality.") Then silently listen without interruption. Treat your sibling as you would a friend. Expect him or her to grant you the same consideration. By compiling everyone's perceptions of your family's past, you can put
together all those missing pieces of a complex emotional jigsaw puzzle. It will allow you to see the whole picture, maybe for the first time.

So next time you make a mess, don't sweep it under the rug. Don't cover it up, clean it up-using the techniques I suggested in this chapter. Just as you'd use a paper towel on a spill, clean it up and then throw it away. But don't forget to apologize if needed. Shame is attaching yourself to the
guilt so much that you believe your are the mistake. "I'm sorry" is cathartic for both offender and offendee. In a study of medical malpractice, it was discovered that 37 percent of litigants would never have sued if they'd gotten a complete explanation or an apology. I've discovered that there are four parts to an effective apology:
1. Admit your mistake without excuses.
2. Confess you feel bad about the consequences of your act.
3. Be sincere and mean it.
4. Make sure you don't do it again.

Summary: Inspiring!
Review: A Wonderful Inspiring book. This book encouraged me to face my life with a positive attitude. Naomi Judd turns out an insightful and encouraging book for all.

Summary: Good
Review: Did Naomi Judd really smack a stripper in a restuarant? It was on the TV that she did. One minute she's talking about Jesus and the next minute she's whacking a naked man. Hope she was careful where she whacked. I think some of these celebrities do things for the publicity and that seems kind of beneath her. I really like her though. This book tells you how to get through some hard times. Its a help yourself kind of book.

Summary: Good Information
Review: Every time I turn on the TV lately, there's Ms. Naomi in her pink bathrobe, scrubbing her face and telling you her face lotion will change your life. You get the feeling you wouldn't be too surprised to walk in your kitchen and find her making coffee. I don't usually believe celebrities who sell their products and proclaim their beliefs, but Naomi Judd is impossible not to like. I even believe her. This book has interesting information. I would like to see her write a book based entirely on her spiritual beliefs. Is she a Christian fundamentalist as some articles have claimed? Most fundamentalists don't do yoga and meditate or read Deepak Chopra. I'll bet she believes in reincarnation. Inquring minds want to know.

Summary: Money Well Spent
Review: I borrowed this book from the library and liked it so much, I went and bought a copy for myself. Naomi is full of wit, wisdom, and humor that I found reading the book was actually hard to put down and not a chore to read. This is a book you will want to keep near by for quick "pick-me-ups".

Summary: Everyone Should Read It
Review: I don't like country music and I'm not a fan of Naomi Judd's music. The only thing I knew about Naomi Judd before buying this book was that she was Ashley Judd's mother and a country singer. That's it! But when I saw her on Larry King live, she was charming, articulate and wise... so I bought the book, intending to read it and return it. I ended up reading it in two days and have decided to keep it! Everyone should read this book. It's easy to read (thanks to Naomi's wit and way with words) and contains such valuable information about the positive choices we can make in living our lives to the fullest. It's something I know I'll go back to ever so often to refresh my memory on the nuggets of wisdom in this book. The parts I found most helpful were her sections on the way thoughts influence our happiness and health and how anyone can improve their lives by changing their negative self talk. It provided me with an *AHA* moment - I realized that what I thought about everyday had a profound influence on how I presented myself and my chance of obtaining my dreams.

Summary: Very Special to me
Review: I had bought this book through amazon, am putting a review here as well as on B&N. This book has given me so much insight into myself. I am a product of child abuse, domestic abuse and long term illness. A couple of weeks ago I bought NIGHTMARES ECHO by Katlyn Stewart. This book deals with abuse and the healing there of. Then I saw that Ms. Judd's book was out and wanted to read about how she was able to maintain her strength and determination through the difficult times of her life. I can only hope that I can be one tenth the light she is...and have the courage that she shines with. I also hope that the other author (Katlyn Stewart) knows that through her book, i have gained strength as well. Thank you both.
Finally after all of these years, I think i can let the demons die where they are and learn to live again in a more postive and hopefully fulfilling life. Rena Yancey-just a reader

Summary: Very enlightening!
Review: I think that Naomi Judd has inspired me more than any celebrity in music or on screen. I've always liked the Judd's music, but I don't think entertaining is Naomi's most important strength. She's a woman who radiates the message, "Believe! Have faith! We CAN survive this life, even when it sucks, and we'll do it together!!" She has a rare ability to make you feel you feel like you're part of her life, and she really wants to help you. She's the "mother" everyone wishes they'd had.

This book is wonderful. It contains great information. The only thing I think she could do less of is quote other "experts." She's strong enough on her own. Dr. Andrew Wiel has some great advice, but let's face it. He looks like he ate his grandmother. Naomi, on the other hand, looks like she lives her message.

Keep the books coming, Naomi. You change people's lives!

Summary: EVERYONE SHOULD READ THIS BOOK!!!!
Review: I'm not a country music fan and was unaware of Naomi Judd's history, but I was impressed (and suprised!) by her intelligence and sense of humor when I saw her on Larry King. I appreciate how she has studied with many of the country's leading doctors and yet she is able to articulate the mind/body connection in words everyone can understand without being kooky and new-agey. This book is inspiring, well-written, and entertaining! Highly recommended for anyone needing a spritual tune-up!!!
