Rating: Summary: Eye-opening Review: Hello. My Name is Jeff. I'm a Carboholic. I had no idea what one was, and was doubtfull I was until the first day of this program, today. One word sums up how I feel today. AAAHHHHH! All day I felt like my system was being racked with post-flu weakness, and a bit of anxiousness. I craved bread, tortillas, fruit, and though I normally don't think about it, I felt obsessed. The morning and early afternoon was rough. By lunchtime, I was so ready to eat come carbs that it was hard to choke down all the food I was sopposed to eat. I was pleasantly surprised though, I was not incredibly hungry later in the day, when normally when 3PM rolls around its time for a bag of chips, a soda. Didn't really miss it that much, and noticed I did not feel the normal lethargy the afternoon brings. I have never dieted before, and didn't really want to, but my wife got the book, and I found it facinating. Knowledge is power, and knowing how it actually works made me decide to try this. Check out the book. I think you have to be a bit of a sado-masochist to get through the first day. Hope it gets better, and recommend you inform yourself with this books theories. P.S. I think I am going to start a local chapter of carboholics anonomous.
Rating: Summary: I have questions Review: I have just started(eighth day)and have lost and gained and am now at the same weight I was when I started but I am not giving up. I am confused about the comp meals, though. The book says to have at least 2 cups of vegies or salad at each comp meal (pg. 95) but the sample meal plans do not include vegies or salad for breakfast. Does anyone have clarification? I am going to start with 1 comp meal a day to see if that will work. I would love to hear from someone with ideas on how to enhance my progress. I also walk 3 miles 3 or 4 times a week. I believe in the concept, I just hope it will start working as well for me as it has for some you.
Rating: Summary: This is an excellent book. Review: I began this diet 3 weeks ago and have lost 13 pounds. I began the diet out of desperation. After 5 1/2 years of power walking, skating, lifting weights and more activity than the average person can imagine - I am age 50 - I had only lost 20 lbs. of the 50 lbs. I needed to lose. It is wonderful to see the pounds finally begin to come off. More importantly, it is great not to be hungry all of the time; while enjoying higher energy levels. I do have a little problem with the reward meal - if I have a high carbohydrate intake to weight loss seems to stall. I personally have come to believe during this decade of "high complex carb - low fat" health dieting that our nation is fatter than it has ever been. I believe this book was published in 1993, and it's wealth of helpful information got lost in the hi-carb/low fat "healthy eating frenzy." I agree that it should be re-printed.
Rating: Summary: I've reached a stopping point. Review: I've been on this diet for two and a half months now, and I've reached a stopping point. I lost ten pounds in the first month and now I've plateaued. I've been following the guidelines strictly, but am getting discouraged with the results. I'd love to get feedback from anyone else who has been through this diet and had similar experiences. Fell free to e-mail me. Until I learn otherwise, though, I am sticking to the diet. At least those ten pounds aren't coming back!
Rating: Summary: Makes Sense....But, Will It Really Work? Review: I read this book in one day. Then went back and reread it slowly again. I felt like it related to me. After being on the diet for three days now, I'm discouraged since I've gained weight. Is this normal? Is it my body adjusting?
Rating: Summary: Currently on Atkins diet!?? Condsidering a change to cad Review: My mother and I are both on the atkin's diet and of course we can have no sugar and only 20 grams of carbs, at least on the Induction Part of the diet. I have been reading a lot about the CAD and am interested in exactly what you can eat during the reward meal. My mom loves sweets and I love pasta and bread. What are the limits? Has anyone tried the atkin's diet and now changed to the CAD?? How do they compare? Or do they? Thanks & Good Luck on your journey to thin!! Lisa
Rating: Summary: changed my life forever Review: In the last 16 months I have lost 100 lbs because of this diet. It changed my way of eating. This book is a must read for people who have tried unsuccesfully to lose weight for many years. It gave me the only diet that I have been able to stick with.
Rating: Summary: It has changed my life!! Review: I read Carbohydrate Addict's Diet 2 years ago. I have been following the diet for 3 months and lost 28 pounds. I love the book and I love this way of life.
Rating: Summary: Easiest diet ever! Review: I borrowed this book from a friend after she told me about the diet; I can not believe how easy it is to follow. I am definitely a carbohydrate addict, but I had not recognized what a problem it was for me. I am a 34 year old mother of two; my last child being 10 months old. I added on an extra 10 lbs. after each child, but I was already 20 lbs. overweight. My friend and I are supporting each other and laughing about how easy it is to lose weight; she refers to our "reward meal" as our "power hour". In 2 and half weeks, I have lost 7 lbs. while eating all of my favourites. When I really want to eat something, I know I can, but during my "hour". I have been recommending the book and diet to everyone and I am now buying my own copy. The best part about the diet is that it is a lifestyle change that does not have to end!
Rating: Summary: Important information should not be spread out everywhere. Review: After reading this book two to three times, I was confidant that I can go through this diet. But everytime that I read this book, there seemed to be hidden information in places like the stories. There was one story that I read that said that you cannot get seconds during the reward meal and that you have to each whatever you like in one sitting. There was another place that was very confusing. During the complementary meals, I was not sure how much food I was supposed to eat because the sample menus showed that for breakfast, you can eat a lot over the average portion. This also goes for lunch. One of the menus said that for breakfast, you can have some tuna salad and some more salad. I think that this book should be rewritten.
