Summary: Excellent! I feel great and lost 7 lbs. in 5 weeks.
Review: The only thing the book doesn't mention is the recommended amount of carbs one should have in one day.

I was able to follow this life style change because I knew I could have all my favorites at my reward meal. I think I'm finally in control!!

Summary: Make Sure You Want to Eat This Way Forever!
Review: I know two people who swore by this diet. They did, indeed, lose a lot of weight. They looked great! However, each has "fallen off the wagon" periodically and, as soon as they eat just a little bit of carbohydrates (compared to normal eaters), they BALLOON over their original weights. They lose the weight once they return to this diet, but not as much as they did originally. They are both terrified of going off this diet, but, clearly, it's not working anymore.

I have come to believe that this is a yo-yo diet that can cause metabolic slowing. Based on the long-term efforts I've witnessed firsthand, I would recommend you follow this diet only if you are absolutely positive you will adhere to it for the rest of your life. Otherwise, you can end up BIGGER than you were before you began the diet. You've been warned!!!!

Summary: Perpetuates the problem it claims to solve!!!
Review: Another diet book designed to sell copies by appealing to those in search of the magic bullet or formula, who want to hear they can eat whatever they want, have their desserts, and still lose weight. There are too many case history stories and there's no real substance - the "meat" of the book could be condensed into about 10 pages. I read the book because of the positive reviews, and I'm always looking for new information I can use in my weight loss clinics. I find it appalling that a book that is so misleading, and actually promotes health problems could be such a best seller. The gist of the book is to eat your carbohydrates in the last meal of the day in a one hour period to avoid cravings that make you eat too much throughout the day. And during that hour, you can basically eat all the sugar and unhealthy food you want. But you have to eat two healthy non-carb meals earlier in the day. There are also many disclaimers throughout the book stating how the diet only works for some people. The biggest problem is that if someone is really a "sugarholic" (a more appropriate term that "carbohydrate addict"), this diet actually perpetuates the addiction, and does nothing to solve the underlying problem. If you think you have this problem, don't waste your time or money on this book. A much better book is "Lick the Sugar Habit" by Nancy Appleton. It has a lot of substance, no hype, is very educational, and is backed up by real research.

Summary: I love this diet!
Review: This book/diet is very good and I'm not craving sweets anymore. After taking the "test" I knew why I'd had so many problems with other diets (WW, Slimfast, etc.,) I really like the Reward meal as it allows me to eat with my family. By preparing more balanced meals, I can eat with them and still be on the diet. The main problem for me is ....I've been on the diet for almost 2 weeks and haven't lost one pound. So, if anyone out there has any ideas, please let me know...

Summary: This was groundbreaking a decade ago but needs updated!
Review: I'd recommend instead either Chocolate is My Kryptonite: Feeding Your Feelings/How to Survive the Forces of Food by Dr. Matthew Keene, or Kay Sheppards book, Food Addiction the Body Knows. Both of these books explain carbohydrate addiction from both a neurochemical and emotional basis with emphasis on serotonin (a clear-cut chemical involved in emotion and addiction) as opposed to the over-emphasis on insulin that The Carbohydrate Addict's Diet proposes. nonetheless, this was one of the first books out there on food addiction, and as such, I thank the authors for their efforts

Summary: Talk to your doctor first please
Review: Tried the diet for two weeks and promptly threw up every day for two weeks. Taking carbs out of my diet triggered my hypoglycemia. Also, was very tired and sluggish. Talked to my doctor and she IMMEDIATELY took me off the diet (I was losing weight however). Turns out a low no carb diet has been causing kidney failure and 75% of all who lose weight on the diet gain it back. Again, this is a diet industry opportunity to make money. Seems to work better for men....please talk to your doctor before going on this diet.

Summary: WHAT DO WE DO NOW?
Review: I just finished HEALTHY FOR LIFE a book published much later then this one, but by the same people about the same topic. There are some real differences between the two. In HEALTHY FOR LIFE there is no 60 min supper time limit, they tell us not to use artificial sweeteners (no diet soda), there is a BIG push toward salad eating, and the strangest part is that they now inforce portion control which is something that they never cared about in the reward meals before. They want us to only eat 1/4 carbs in our reward meal plus a 2 cup salad, and absolutely no gum or mints of any kind. I guess I will take from each book what is right for me. I wish there was a help line to answer some of my questions.

Summary: Talk to your doctor before starting this program
Review: I recently tried this diet, needing to lose 25 pounds. Things went very well for the first few weeks, weight did drop off very quickly (2 pounds/week). Sometime during the 3-4th week I became so thirsty that I was drinking about 15 glasses of water a day and was still extremely thirsty and had "cottonmouth" full time. This continued for 2 weeks. Concerned I went off the program and visited the doctor. Apparently this program didn't agree with me, which was disappointing because it was really working. After 3-4 days off the program, my thirst regulated itself again and I am back to my 6-8 glasses a day. My husband, on the other hand has had no problem with the program, his thirst increased some, but not to the extremes that I experienced, which is why I give this program 3 stars, it does work for some people. I highly recommend that you have professional counsel before beginning any program because everyones body is different. I have incorporated some of their suggestions into my current routine and am continuing to lose weight following a 1400-1500 calorie per day program plus exercise. 15 more pounds to go! Good luck on your program!

Summary: SO FAR SO GOOD...
Review: I'm going into my 18th day and I'm losing weight at a great pace. I started at 180 pounds and now I weigh 170. I'm 5'8" and now one I've ever met thinks I weigh more then 140 pounds. This has made it hard to stay motivated because my boyfriend, a guy teacher thinks I look great the way I am, and I want to lose 15 more pounds! Anyway, why I'm writing is tell people that as of yet I have been living a "normal" day once a weekend, and I have had weddings up the wazoo and have been drinking wine and coolers and eating what I want for as long as I want and I'm still losing! I follow the diet very strictly for 6 of 7 days and It's really working!

Summary: HELP I'M NEW TO THIS!
Review: I started this diet 5 days ago and I have a hard time with breakfasts, and drinking only water(I love diet coke) all day. I have an active life which includes alot of parties. Does this mean that I can never drink cocktails outside the 60 min mark again? That's depressing to me is it to anyone else? Or is there something that I'm not understanding about this diet? Anyone else having trouble with the 'bread' recipes? Please if anyone can help me I'd love some answers. Please e-mail me :(
