Rating: Summary: I LIKE THIS BOOK Review: In the first week, I noticed my energy level went up, that sluggish feeling in the afternoon went away...small healthy changes. I didn't get over all of my cravings, but they were no where near as powerful as they used to be.Some people may think that this is a fad diet, or that it's psychological, or what have you. I am a diabetic who let her diet get away from her, and this helped me get back on track. This book stresses that it will not work if you are not a "carb addict" or a normal healthy person. It's very much "to each his own..." If it doesn't work for you, then it doesn't work for you. Don't make other people feel guilty for wanting to at least try it.
Rating: Summary: Not for everyone, but awesome for the right ones Review: There is no one answer for all 6 billion people on the planet! This is about a lifestyle -- not a quick fix diet. I think the Hellers make it abundantly clear that this is addressed to particular people with a particular problem. My father, who has never had a weight problem, would be miserable on this. My mother and I, however, have lost more than 60 lbs (combined). This is unlike other "protein" diets in that it obligates you to consume significant amounts of fibre. As a vegetarian, I have had little difficulty following their plan, and I am certainly eating a more healthful and balanced diet. The Reward meal is NOT an all you can eat smorgasbord blowout -- read the book! For those who recommend speaking to a doctor first, make sure your physician has read the book! My doctor actually recommended this to me when we saw that low fat and moderate exercise just didn't do it for me. However, low carbs and a good mixture of protein and fibre has been successful for 11 months now. This book is well written, succinct, and absolves yo-yo dieters of guilt for having failed on inappropriate programs. You do need to give it a solid 4 week try to get going!
Rating: Summary: Easy to read with exciting possibilities for weight problems Review: I couldn't read this book fast enough. I wish they would've given me the bottom line first but I'm glad I had to peruse it for the answers because I learned a lot more. I'll read it again as soon as my neighbor gives it back!
Rating: Summary: Someone finally figured it out Review: I have to listen to people talk about how their so fat and they go on these outragious diets like eating five strawberries and now you have a book that says eating the bad stuff can help you. I think this is the perfect gift for all the cheerleaders and supermodles around the world
Rating: Summary: You must work at it! Review: This diet is the answer for all Carbohydrate Addicts. However, you must work at it. Sure the Complimentary Meals are work at first. But as with anything else, you get used to what to cook and what to buy. If you follow the recipes, you get a variety of meals for everyday. If a person is hungry during the day, then they need to eat more at the Complimentary Meal, or they are not following the diet to the letter, or they are not Carbohydrate Addicts. If you were addicted to something else, like gambling or alcohol, you would have to make a LIFE change. So it is with this plan. To say it doesn't work is just an excuse for not being willing to work with the diet.
Rating: Summary: It worked for me! Realistic! Review: I took a sample of the "test" that was published in a magazine, to see if I fit the profile - as a lark. I thought, "just another fad diet". The questions hit home so I bought the book and took the full test and scored 95%. So I read the book and decided to give it a try, what could I lose??? (No pun intended) Well, I lost 32 pounds and am still losing. And I feel great. Lost most cravings, started paying attention to real hunger cues, etc. The plan is so versatile, I can fit it into my lifestyle easily (eating out frequently and irregularly) and don't have to tell a host/hostess -- I can't eat that. Usually I can eat anything because I plan ahead; using the reward meal whenever I want to. And if I don't follow it for a while, I don't feel I have to beat myself up. No guilt trip here. The book solved a lot of my problems and I would recommend anyone who wants to feel better and/or lose weight to take the test and give the plan a try.
Rating: Summary: PLEASE talk with your doctor before trying this plan! Review: I used this diet, and had great results at first -- but in time, it stopped working. Eventually, even the strictest form of the plan had me gaining weight. My doctor told me that she could have saved me alot of trouble because this diet eventually backfires for many of it's users -- so talk with your doctor before trying this. And good luck!
Rating: Summary: Watch out! This diet actually increased my carb cravings! Review: Watch out for this diet. The low-carb breakfasts and lunches (the recommended times for the low-carb meals) made me crave carbs even more--all day long--and I loaded up at dinner. After being on it for about a month, I stopped, because it felt like I was screwing up my system. Watch out for diets that say you can "eat anything you want, for an hour" every day. There is no miracle diet for anyone; and this one proved to me that moderation is the key. (And, years later, I still have a problem with craving carbs--which I attribute to the fact that I "deprived" myself of them while on this diet--even for that short period of time.) Plus, I've always wondered how it could be a good thing to load up on fat. . .isn't this contrary to everything we've read about the connection between fat and heart disease?
Rating: Summary: Changing my life in more ways than weight. Review: After hearing about the book on Oprah, I got the book, started the plan, then read all these posts before posting mine. In a nutshell: you want this book if you not only want to lose weight but want to make some other life changes. You also want the book not only for the diet itself, but for the carbohydrate Tables and recipes. I'm delighted the book doesn't go "on and on" on theory and gives some good "case" situations that answer the "can I...", "Why aren't I losing?", etc. questions. I was drinking approx. 5 beers throughout the day, not eating until a few bites of dinner, then drinking about 3 more beers till bed, and realized I was POURING carbs into my system. I live in a very hot climate and beer was the only thing I wanted...and I was never hungry...but also had low energy (but not "tipsy"). I hated water. I wanted to feel better as well as lose about 5-10 lbs. (Let me tell you, it was interesting to try and consume 3 beers in the first Reward Meal)...and I rediscovered cold, clean water and discovered lemon-water for the rest of the time. I've already lost a few pounds and feel that this lifestyle, for me, is not only easy, but probably a lifeSAVER. The week before going on this, my urine outgo was low and darker in color. It was scaring me. IMMEDIATELY after starting the diet, I was back to normal and cleansing my system. I think keeping track of POUNDS isn't so much the issue as much as feeling good and fitting into the size you want. Period. Scales make people crazy. Spend the less than 10 bucks on this book...I think it's worth MORE...
Rating: Summary: This diet works...even better w/ exercise!!! Review: Well...I purchased the Carbohydrate Addict's Diet and can pretty much say that after the initial 3 weeks, there are no doubts as to how well it works!! I lost 9 pounds during that time. Actually-- the heavier a person is, I believe, the quicker the weight-loss! I think everybody should be aware of this :o) Anyhow-- the following 3 weeks after-- the most pleasant thing happened. On a friend's suggestion, I decided to compliment the diet with LIGHT weight training (very light, as my back wasn't at optimal health) and some LIGHT stretches and ab training AND a supplement of a product called HydroxyCut that I'd read about in an exercise magazine. Well...during the second 3-week phase, I passed the 9-pound mark. This time, I lost 13 pounds during the SECOND 3-week phase. That means, 6 weeks later, I've managed to shed 22 pounds. That's right...22 pounds so far :o) I believe I can reach my goal of losing 55 pounds (the amount of weight I need to lose to reach my body's ideal weight for its height). I'm confident I'll achieve this in another 6 weeks or so, based on what I've lost so far :o) I can't tell you what a high it has been! I've never felt healthier, more alert, LIGHTER, my self-esteem's gone through the roof, I feel happier-- more energetic, I'm a new person AND I HAVEN'T EVEN REACHED MY TARGET WEIGHT YET. Make no mistake- I haven't been JUST losing weight. My body has undergone a substantial reduction in body fat-loss! Understand that? Listening? I've known for quite some time that I've had ab-muscles. We all do...however, they won't show up with inches of fat layered over them. TODAY...I notice subtle lines outlining the cuts of my abdominals! :o) I'm definitely on my way :o) I was a 38" waist. I'm now down to where a size 34 fits ALMOST perfectly! Now...If I'm at a waist size of, oh...35" NOW...where I started at 38" 6 weeks ago...it stands to reason that I can lose ANOTHER 3" inches off my waist in another 6 weeks-- PROVIDED I continue my super-easy diet and my exercising :o) That ends up meaning, 55 poounds in 3 months or maybe 3 and 1/2 months! And 6" off my waist...AT LEAST :o) Think I'm stopping now? NO WAY! I'm looking and feeling BETTER TODAY, at 32 than I did back when I was a 20-y.o. :o) LOL Anyways...I recommend trying it! I mean...I didn't believe it would ACTUALLY work, it was such an inexpensively priced book :o) Well...I won't bore you with details on HOW MUCH money I've spent on other diets. JUST DO IT... DES
