Summary: Go with the Carbohydrate Addict's Lifespan Program
Review: This is a wonderful concept, and one I believe I shall be eternally thankful to Drs. Heller (and Oprah) for bringing into my life. Don't waste time with this book however: If you are interested in this eating plan read the Carbohydrate Addict's Lifespan Program book instead. The Yo-Yo book predates the larger trade book and if you are reading both together, you may get confused and not get the full effect of this eating system. Many reward meal personal "stories" in this book for example are misleading because they are not balanced, and balance is the important concept stressed in the larger, later book. I saw another reviewer noted the "binge" aspect this diet's reward meal seems to promote: Again, the Yo-Yo book confused me. Better clarification is provided in the other, later Lifespan Program book.

Summary: So far, so good!
Review: Like everyone else, I saw this on Oprah, and...like many people, I have tried every diet there is, and am still 35 lbs. (at least!) overweight. I thought I would give this book a chance, as I tried Atkins, and all it did was make me evil! On Atkins I lost 6 lbs. in 3 weeks, and regained every bit of it and more once I started eating carbs of any sort again. So five days ago, I started the Carbohydrate Addict's Diet, and as of this morning, I have lost 5 lbs. in 5 days, I have no food cravings, that afternoon slump at my desk no longer happens, and I don't have a desire to raid the refrigerator at night! I feel great, and have had no problems following the diet at all. For my reward meal at dinner, I've eaten everything I want, including desserts and carbs galore, I've had wonderful coffee drinks and incredible pastas, and yet every morning my scale registers less than the day before. Believe me when I say that can see this becoming a "live-it", not a diet for me!

Summary: This is Amazing!
Review: i just started the diet and I can not believe that I'm not thinking about food all the time! I have more energy and am very satisfied knowing i can have whatever I want at my reward meal. The book had some very good points about good health in general.

include 2 cups of veggies with Breakfast?

Summary: It's working -- who can argue with success?
Review: I started out doing Suzanne Somers' plan... then switched to Carb addicts. This is easier to follow than "somersizing," and after two weeks, I've lost six pounds! I am making a conscious effort to eat plenty of fresh veggies, and eat a very balanced reward meal, including fruit and dairy. The best part is the fact that the obsession with food and compulsive eating that has plagued me since I was a child is gone. I feel in control of myself and my eating habits. I do plan to consult a doctor if I continue to lose weight; I sincerely feel that I could follow this plan for the rest of my life, but I do want to ascertain that that's a healthy course of action to follow! I do miss having cocktails and drinks before dinner and dessert much later... it feels kind of rushed to eat everything in an hour when we entertain, but it's working! That's more than enough reason to keep going.

Summary: This book helped me
Review: I like this book. I know that a lot of you will like it and many won't but the thing is, that's because we're all different. Nothing works for everyone. But for me, this book worked.

Summary: Kind of boring but informative
Review: I find this book very informative in reference to the insulin conection and the carbohydrates addition, but also it was very boring when it came to the part of the stories from the people that have being on the program. One story to many.

Summary: I think the book makes alot of sense and I have enjoyed it.
Review: I have been on this diet for 1 1/2 weeks. The first week I lost 4 pounds, but since then I have gained 1/2 pounds. The only thing I have added to my reward meal is a small dessert. I am abit confused as to why I am gaining weight instead of loosing weight. I would appreciate some input. Thanks

Summary: Atkin's Diet with a Carbo-Load
Review: It's not a literary piece by any means but I didn't feel taken because of the low price. The book could be simply a 15 page brochure with a very simple routine:

1. Eat only protein and fat for Breakfast and Lunch. No bread, fruit, milk, fruit juice, etc. Vegetables, certainly, but try to avoid carrots and broccoli amongst a few others.

2. For dinner, eat whatever you feel like, including dessert, but do so in a 1 hour time interval.

3. No snacking, but black coffee and diet sodas are allowed.

It does seem very Atkins-esque based on the premise that controlling blood insulin levels are key to weight control. In the end, I think a more main stream approach may go further for a true stick-to-it life-long plan. Is carbohydrate addiction real or is it a marketing ploy? I'm getting a little skeptical of some of the books endorsed by Oprah.

Why not go back to a modern diabetic diet that utilizes glycemic indexes to control blood sugar levels and the type of carbohydrates we eat. Simply limit refined flours (found in most breads, cookies and crackers with the exception of pita or stoneground wheat), potatoes and white rice. Try lower glycemic alternatives like brown rice, dairy products including low-fat ice cream, popcorn and pasta. Vegetables and fruit should always be considered "free foods" with no limitations. And yes, exercise!

Summary: What's the deal?
Review: Ok, I am very excited about this book, BUT I am a little confused about the rest of these reviews here. I keep hearing discussions about "The revised edition" What is the name of the "new" version of this book, and where can I get it? The only book I see here on amazon is the carb addict's book printed in 1993, somebody please tell me what the name of the new book is...Other than this initial frustration, I have been on the "old" version of this diet for about a week now, and I have tried a similar verions (Atkins) for many months, but felt a little week on that diet. I must say, after switching to this diet, I feel great. Although I still have over 100lbs to lose. I think what a lot of critics miss about this plan is that simply, EVERY DIET REQUIRES SOME AMOUNT OF DISCIPLINE. Life is work, and if you let this diet work for you, life can be a lot less consumed with the idea of food. I am not saying that you cannot enjoy food, but one thing I have learned is that in order to lose weight, you MUST have willpower. To the lady's husband who is still starving, eat more low fat cheese and eggs etc. for breakfast and lunch, it really helped me a lot, and I am not lying when I say, I CAN EAT LIKE A MAN...lol...Be patient, I am learning to be, and I feel that is what can really make the difference, whether you are being patient waiting for your reward meal, or you are being patient in waiting for your weight loss results...PATIENCE...:)

Summary: Solution for carb-addicts!
Review: This diet will help stop your cravings and increase your energy level. This is good because it doesn't stop your carbohydrate income all together, you still get to eat them. This diet has definately worked for me and continues to work!I urge you to try it!
