Rating: Summary: If you are a carbo-addict, this book IS for you. Review: I have tried all the gimmick diets throughout the years as well as the Aitkins diet. None were right for me. Although skeptical at first, after reading this convincing book and taking the simple test recomended, I was and am sure that this is the diet for me. The authors explain the program in an easy to understand way and why it works. They explained what ordeals they went through in finding the right solution and convinced me that this diet can easily be followed for those with carbo. problems the rest of their lives. I have lost 14 pounds so far and can hardly wait to lose the rest. This book proves how you will have much more energy then you have had in years and quit thinking about snacks and food all the time for the rest of your life. I say, "Well done!" and I wish I knew about this 20 years ago.---Don Spencer
Rating: Summary: If you love carbs, you'll hate this book! Review: I also tried the Atkin's diet and thought this might be different. However, trying to be on this diet -- on, off, on, off, I gained a total of 20 pounds. I can tolerate only so much in the way of eggs, and fat, and ended going on and off in big ways. My cravings for carbs increased, and I would binge for several days, then try again. IF you can stay on the diet, it will work, but a realistic lifetime eating program? NO WAY! Be careful for the high protein low carb diets! I truly believe it does something to your fat burning capabilities and sets you up for weight GAIN if your carb intake goes over the limit. Consistently over the limit with a super sensitive to carbs metabolism and here comes the weight. Like I said, over a period of 6 months, I gained 20 pounds! Watch out!
Rating: Summary: THE MOST UPLIFTING THING I COULD HAVE EVER DONE FOR MY SELF Review: Well, for starters, when I started the Carbohydrate Addict Diet, I was 25 pounds overweight after 1 year of marriage, which affected me really bad. I was moody, I did not feel good about myself and I knew I could do something about it but just did not have the energy anymore to try. I'm 32 now, but back in the day when I was 20 I had gained weight up to 180 pounds. At 21, I started a diet, started working out and within a year-and-a-half I went down to about 130. Within ten years I gained and lost about fifteen to twenty pounds, but I could never seem to find something that would help me control or help discipline my eating. Eventually I would give up and gain weight, then I'd get frustrated and lose it, and then it turned out to be back and forth for the last ten years. About three years ago, it seemed that I did have it controlled. When I met my husband,I was 145 and felt pretty good, couldn't complain, but as soon as we got married I was too comfortable and gained 25 pounds. I was at the end of my rope with this weight gain and was at home on my day off from work, watching Oprah and there were the Doctors talking about this great diet and how a person didn't even have to deprive themselves. I was thinking "no way", but I did have a positive feeling about this. So, it was about a week a later when I bought the book out of determination and know I feel that it is one of the best things I have ever bought myself. It gave me so much insight about MY body and why I would get these uncontrollable cravings, why I snacked a lot, why I couldn't keep the weight off and why I was going back and forth. I knew that since I was getting older that it was becoming even harder to keep off the weight or at least I thought(I needed something to blame for the weight gain). I started the diet on November 1 and saw the weight coming off as soon as the next day. I could not believe it--exactly what the doctors said would happened, happened. And, because of the reward meal and don't even feel like I'm depriving myself of anything, I actually feel a lot freer about eating and I have more of a positive attitude, plus more energy. It is amazing. Its like I was let out of a prison of some sort, a diet prison. As of today, Nov. 19, I have lost 7 pounds, I couldn't even lose 1 pound within the last year. I'm so glad I have this opportunty to share my experience and encourage others to try this diet if they feel that this is your story also.
Rating: Summary: A TREAT WHEN YOU EAT ! Review: I like this book very much ! I followed this diet with a friend and she an I were trying to lose weight . Guess what, THE DIET DID WORK ! The book tells you what you have to eat threw the course of the day with foods that are low in carbohydrates. You can decide which meal of the day you choose to have your goodies (TREATS).For EXAMPLE: If you want a Treat for breakfast it can only be with that meal. You can decide when you want to eat your treat, either it be lunch or dinner its up to you. But It will only be that one meal of the day that you choose. You CANNOT eat your TREATS in every meal. Of course, we incorporated EXCERCISE which also helped in the process to lose weight. I'm the type of gal who likes VARIETY so I have many books on diet and nutrition. So when I get bored with one diet I can choose another. VARIETY IS THE SPICE OF LIFE ! So when I do find the BEST diet for me I will sure tell you readers out there about it ! Thanks for reading my comments!
Rating: Summary: This makes a lot of sense to me Review: I can say I have had success on this diet, 8 pounds in 3 1/2weeks. I can see that a lot of people would not do well on it. Noteveryone is a carb addict. I scored moderately addicted and have given the test to several other people. Most of them did not even register as having a problem. If this is not your problem, you probably won't be successful, and should not be discouraging others. I found the book to be quite readable and enjoyed reading about the experiences of others. It was refreshing to see others suffer like myself. I truly believe I can do well on this diet and my body will tell how best to do it, but like everything it's not for everyone and it may take time.
Rating: Summary: I love this diet Review: I love this diet! I have been following this plan for about 6 weeks now and have lost 15 lbs. and it's so easy! one thing that I would suggest to anyone contemplating this is to make sure that you eat plenty of fresh veggies- for the fiber. My weight loss also remains more consistent when I eat lots of veggies. I have been at least 20 lbs.(usually more) overweight my entire adult life and this is the first time I've lost weight so easily, so effortlessly. It's easy to stick to a diet where nothing is forbidden. I feel that I've finally found a way of eating that is right for me. Thank you Drs. Heller!
Rating: Summary: This Works For Me Review: I've heard this diet being criticized because it is not very complicated, but SIMPLE is the only thing that works for me. Being severely overweight, (120+ lbs), my doctor put me on a low fat diet last Thanksgiving and I lost 3 pounds a week...(60 pounds total); until I hit a brick wall and stopped losing. I got used to less fat, less red meat and less sugar; but I was sick of eating salads. Since I still had 60 pounds to lose, I next tried the Atkins Diet. The thought of eating a whole pig every day, (ham, bacon, pork rinds, snout and tail), really appealed to me at first, but I reacted violently to the excess of fat and the lack of carbs and I was sick during the whole "Induction Diet" phase. I also couldn't afford Atkin's expensive pills. I then tried the 'Carbohydrate Addict's Diet' because it used real life food and was similar to what I knew already worked for me, except for two big differences: it (a), prohibited ANY carb intake for 23 hours every day and (b) allowed me to indulge my cravings for the other hour. I never knew what a difference those details would make until I started losing 3 pounds a week again, and I'm eating a LOT more than just salad! Plus, those cravings are getting fewer and farther between. For me, dieting is strictly a matter of survival. I am not trying to 'buff up' so my Speedos will fit; the inside of a health food store remains a mystery to me; I will never compete in triathlons; I will never 'Sweat To The Oldies'; ...(heck, unless there's some legitimate WORK to do, I know I'll never even get off my big duff!) So today, FOR ME, the 'Carbohydrate Addict's Diet' very nicely fills the bill. Maybe after another 60 pounds I'll need to change diets again, but so what? Check back next Thanksgiving.
Rating: Summary: Interesting concept for weight loss Review: Am on my second week of this diet and lost seven pounds the first week. It is a very interesting idea - the addiction to carbs - and seems to be working for me as I am a major pasta/bread eater. My only problem is after 10 p.m. when I want to eat, eat, eat. But...that is where the water comes in! I just make sure I drink plenty of it! This diet really has helped me in that I can eat basically anything at my Reward Meal (dinner), so if I am craving something, I know I will get to eat it at dinner rather than never - based on the many other diets I have been on. I would recommend this book to others, however, I would suggest to the Hellers that they put their program/recipes in a binder-type book like Weight Watchers for those of us that hate flipping page to page every time we need to remember how and what to eat. Thanks for a great beginning to what I hope will be a lifetime change in my eating habits!
Rating: Summary: No more Sweet Tooth! Review: I LOVE THE WAY I FEEL! My string of not getting to bed w/o a late night snack has been broken! I eat my last meal (Reward Meal) at 5:30 and have no urge to eat until the next day. I haven't had the munchies in 2 weeks! I was always amazed by people who could buy candy, chips, or ice cream and not eat it all in one sitting. I would think "this person has some incredible will power to have M&M's in their house." Now, I have all kinds of goodies at my house, but I only eat them during my Reward Meal! Never before, Never after! I feel like a normal person. I've lost 6 pounds in 2 weeks....some think this may be slow, but I'm so relaxed and confident that I could care less how long it takes (I have 35 Lbs to lose). try it! you may surprised!
Rating: Summary: Easy to read, easy to understand, very informative Review: This is the best of the low carb. diet books you can buy. It reads fast, the information you need is right at your finger tips and plentiful. This is also the best diet I have ever been on. It has changed my life, I now have all the energy of a 16 year old and I look good, too.
