Rating: Summary: Thanks to Rachael and Richard Heller Review: This book is amazing. After years of trying every diet written, being blamed for being overweight, accused of eating too much, and reading every diet book available, I have found a source which describes MY eating habits AND offers positive solutions. My experience with doctors is that they tend to shake their heads and say they understand how hard weight control is and then prescribe another diet (or eating plan depending on the decade) of tasteless food. This plan lets you enjoy food and feel good. I hope everyone who is worried about weight has a chance to read this book and take the test which identifies carbo addictive behavior. Thank you, Drs. Heller.

After years of trying every diet written, being blamed for being overweight, facing accusations of gluttony, and reading every diet book available, I have found a source which describes MY eating habits AND offers positive solutions. My experience with doctors is that they tend to shake their heads and say they understand how hard weight control is and then prescribe another diet (or eating plan depending on the decade) of tasteless food which works only for a short time. This plan lets you enjoy food and feel good. I hope everyone who is worried about weight has a chance to read this book and take the test which identifies carbo addictive behavior. Thank you, Drs. Rating: Summary: It's been great so far! Review: I have really enjoyed being on this eating plan, (notice I didn't say 'diet') for 4 weeks and can't explain how easy it is! The thing which I notice the most, has been the boost in my energy level! I used to come home from work totally exhausted, not wanting to do anything more except veg out on the couch with a bunch of salty snacks. Any errands to be done would always be put off. I am so much more alert and aware now, and would tell anyone even if your weight isn't a factor, just follow this plan for the extra engery you will receive. I have managed to lose 5 pounds, with 10 left to go. I know it will come off slowy, as it is not a lot of weight to lose. I have been very excited about the cravings that have ceased, and when I do have these items in my 'reward meal', it's not such a big deal, and I find myself not minding to pass them up, as well. I know this works, also, because as I think back to other eating habits I had 10 to 12 years ago, when my weight was what my goal weight is now, I was doing the exact same things I am now, but didn't realize it until now. I only had a half hour lunch break, so salads worked out the best for me, and didn't leave me feeling uckey. Later on in the day, I had what I liked for dinner, within an hour time frame, and at the time and the things I was involved in, I didn't find time to snack even if I wanted to. So all in all, I can say it works! Also back then, people always asked me, 'how can you eat so much and never gain weight?' I didn't have an answer then, but I do now; 'read the book, the WHOLE book, not bits and pieces, you'll be glad that you did! And remember, it's not for everyone, so take the the test first before you make any judgements!
Rating: Summary: Great revelation on carbs, but a little confusing... Review: I was blown away by some of the information in this book- finally, a legitimate explaination why I was still 40 pounds overweight after 4 1/2 months on an 1800 calorie a day diet while working out for over an hour every day! I didn't realize that the piece of fruit and a bagel I was having for breakfast every morning was one of the worst things I could be eating. I have only been on the diet for 5 days, but I already feel better. I have more energy to take care of my kids, and I don't have the compulsion to stuff my face with banana bread (or cookies, or cake, or rolls...). I would recommend this diet, but there are some confusing aspects surrounding this plan. The book is very motivational, but is a little hazy when it comes to details. For instance, we are told to have whatever we like in our reward meal with only the guidance that it should be a feast, not a gorge. That is what it says in the book. However, after checking on the website today, it appears that they have added a number of disclaimers to that statement. They say that EVERY reward meal must start with 2 cups of salad, and that you must have a 1/3 protein, 1/3 carbs, and 1/3 veggies balance. I don't mind this at all, in fact, it sounds quite reasonable. Just be warned that none of this is in the book. It seems like the diet is a work in progress, constantly changing and refining itself. I worry that I am not keeping current-how long before this book becomes outdated?
Rating: Summary: Unbelievable! Review: I've been on it only three days, but my cravings disappeared entirely from day one! I estimate I'm eating about one-third of the amount of food I was eating before I started, and I'm NOT HUNGRY! It's incredible. I don't know how the weight loss will go, but it's amazing how much time you free up when you're not constantly thinking about what you can eat next!
Rating: Summary: Tips that apparently work Review: I followed the instructions and tips in this book and I have lost several pounds so far, but I'm still new at this, and I expect to lose even more in the coming weeks. Fact is that these diet tips don't require much discipline, it's more of a rearrangement of when what to eat, and of course, leaving out some 'unnecessary' foods. For the few bucks the book cost, it's money well spent to give it a try. Aside from the physical aspect, I also encourage readers to balance their psychological and spiritual lives in order to be consistent in their dieting behavior, therefore I highly recommend another very valuable and helpful book, which is Dietmar Scherf's "I Love Me: Avoiding and Overcoming Depression" also available at Amazon.
Rating: Summary: Good, Healthy Diet Review: After reading through several of the disgruntled reviewers there are a few topics I would like to address. First of all the book is an advocate of exercise, but states that you do not have to exercise to be successful on this diet. Secondly the book is not a high protein, low carb diet. It does endorse limiting your carbs during two meals. It also advocates checking with your doctor before beginning this program as well as eating low fat foods and meeting all dietary regulations. This diet was designed for vegetarians as well as meat lovers, and is meant to improve ones health. If you review the receipes in the book you will see how healthy your meals can be.
Rating: Summary: If you fit the type, it works - this is how Review: I didn't see the Oprah show but I used this book in 95. I had been sticking to a low-low-low fat diet at the time and was gaining about 2 pounds a year. The test in the book classified me as a light-to-moderate carbohydrate addict, but the people in the book had so much in common with me that I think I was more addicted than that. Anyway, sticking with the book, I completely eliminated all starch and sugar from EVERY meal and ALL snacks, except for the reward dinner, where I would eat whatever I wanted (pasta, rice, bread, potatoes, chinese food). During the day I would eat lots of fatty, greasy burgers and bacon and eggs. To my amazement I lost 29 pounds in 5 1/2 months. It was not difficult to keep it off, either. I ended up "easing up" on the diet after this time, but kept the general idea of avoiding carbohydrates except for dinner. The weight stayed off. I never had to worry about fats again. And I felt very healthy and pleased. TAKE THE TEST in the book - the authors themselves stress that if you are not specifically a carbo addict, this diet won't work for you. Also, this diet is VERY VERY DIFFERENT from a general low-carbohydrate diet so don't listen to those who say it's all the same. I hope this helps somebody reading it.
Rating: Summary: Try Sugarbusters instead! Review: I read this book, Dr Atkins'book and a book called SugarBusters. I didn't agree with the reward meal, not because I loved the idea of gorging for an hour but that is exactly what I'm trying to prevent. I also believe God gave us fruit for a reason and wanted to somehow fit it into my day. So sugarbusters seems to be the answer for me. I will update you!
Rating: Summary: The Carbohydrate Addict's Diet Review: I found the book to be not helpful at all when learning how to eat a balanced and healthy diet. To see the authors on Oprah even confirmed my suspicions that this is a FAD.
