Rating: Summary: Wonderful way to live and enjoy life. Review: The book is wonderful. I lost 50 lbs. 16 years ago and kept it off with weight watchers. I stopped smoking and am going thru menopause & gained 24 lbs. Weight watchers just doesn't seem to work anymore. I started doing my research, because my metabolism was really dragging. I was getting depressed, not to mention aggrevated. I went to the store & saw this book and sat and read it. The diet seemed OK, but I said everything you wanted to eat at a reward meal. I ignored the diet, until two weeks later, I picked up the book and decided to stick to it. My daughter has joined me. I know it works. I right now on my second week have not lost any weight. The first week was 4lbs. The second week, so far, no weight. I would like to discuss this diet with someone. I am not discouraged because I figured my body is adjusting. My daughter just received her Masters in Educational Psyc. & her goal is to help overweight children. She would love to counsel childre! n & parents about this diet, so would I. Children & adults never feel deprived. The amazing thing is that you can go out shopping and do not feel like eating anything in the store. You lose your craving for in-between-snacks. This diet actually taught me the difference between my mind, mouth & stomach.
Rating: Summary: I READ THIS BOOK 4 YEARS AGO, AND IT CHANGED MY LIFE Review: Four years ago: I wasn't fat, but I was 22 pounds overweight. I was always tired and had a vicious craving for sweets and breads. I exercised hard three times a week and was careful about what I ate, but I never lost weight. I thought I was going crazy! Then I heard about this book and it made so much sense. I took the test and knew before I finished that it would tell me I was an addict. I started eating carbs just once a day, at night, in that allotted hour. But in that hour, I would eat whatever I liked. The rest of the day, I ate only protein. Well, I kept track of my weight every day, and did the weekly average thing. (I still do). I started recording the weight drops. Two pounds one week, one and a half the next, etc., CONSISTENTLY. That was 1995. Now I am 128 pounds, I do not crave carbs, I never need naps anymore, I have energy. I feel and look wonderful. I'm so glad this book is finally getting the notice it deserves!
Rating: Summary: The Carbohydrate's Addict's Diet Review: I have read and re-read this book and find it excellent...the diet has helped me with sweet cravings, has given me control over eating all day long because of my appetite drastically being lowered. Over all, I feel in control BUT I have been on this program for two months. I feel slimmer when I get up in the morning BUT I have NOT lost one pound according to my scale. I have read the part in the book about slowed-down metabolism from yo-yo dieting (which I have been doing all my life) and that could be the answer why I'm not losing. I will try to stay on the diet because it isn't difficult but am getting discouraged because of not losing any weight. Can I ask for any input? Is someone else experiencing this?
Rating: Summary: A NEW BEGINNING Review: I read the book entirely in one sitting, the very night I bought it. Then I studied it at length many times, highlighting, making notes in the margins. As a registered nurse, I learned a lot from the references to their research, and their detailed explanation of hyperinsulinemia. They have over 100 references, and 10 years or more in research of this disorder. It was as though a veil had been lifted and I suddenly understood that my condition is physiological, NOT psychological! I have found a new beginning. I know many doctors who recommend this diet for weight loss, depression, high blood pressure, pre-diabetic conditions, high cholesterol. I cannot diagnose myself, but I know it is working for me. I have been on the diet for 6 months and have lost 62 lbs! I don't weigh and measure, count calories, or deprive myself of any of my favorite foods. I feel better, no cravings, and I have more energy than ever! and above all, I am only 18 lbs away from my goal...6 months ago I would NEVER have thought it possible. Give it a try, and follow the 4 rules...you will succeed.
Rating: Summary: This book changed me Review: I am 25 years, 5'7" and now way 127 pounds, when I began this diet on July 6th I weighed 146 pounds. I have only two pounds left until my goal weight, a weight I haven't weighed since I was 16 years old and modeling, I never imagined I could ever reach this point, it didn't even occur to me until a couple weeks ago that I would make it. The diet is simple I have lost my cravings completely I have so much more energy. In response to "talk to your doctor first please" and anyone else wondering, I was diagnosed hypoglycemic 4 years ago after fainting and severe dizzy spells, I was retested again after begining the diet and am no longer hypoglycemic, and my doctor is fully supportive, so there is hope, I agree it may not be for everyone. but I support it. I followed this diet but I suggest reading the 96' version for hints such as chromium supplements and salad eating, oh and NO diet soda. Regarding alcohol, I drink 5-7 (microbrews-12 carbs each) a week and consistanly lose more weight after a night of drinking than normal days. Beer is one of the only natural sources of chromium and works as a diaretic as well. Upon reaching my goal weight I will attempt to quit smoking I'll write back with those results in a couple months, but I'm confident that I will maintain my weight!

Rating: Summary: Take the Carb Addict's Test Before Starting Review: It's been 4 days on the diet, and I've loss 5.5 pounds already! It's important that you take the carb addict's test, located at the beginning of the book, before starting the diet. Be sure to answer the questions honestly. You may find out that you are not a carb addict. If your not, this diet won't work for you. For those who say that they are starving between meals, you should slightly increase the fat content of your complimentary meals, say with a piece of cheese, small piece of butter, etc. This will give you that full filling that will last you to the next meal. What has allowed me to beat those cravings it knowing that I can eat anything I want for my Reward Meal. Excellent Book!
Rating: Summary: Great for sweets/bread lovers Review: I found this book while browsing the diet section of the bookstore last summer (2003). I read the whole book in about two days and immediately started the diet. I was about 35lbs over my ideal weight at the time and on the diet I ended up losing about 15 in a month's time. Then I slipped off the diet and gained it all back and then another 10 on top of that. I've have tried Weight Watchers and counting calories but it just doesn't work as well and leaves me hungry all the freaking time. I have started to the Carb Addicts diet again and I have already seen a lb come off in less than a week. I am concerned that I will have a difficult time losing during this endeavor because I've gone on and off it several times since the first time I did it. I have found it really hard not to snack at night but if I must have something salty, Tsuami miso soup is easy to make and only has 3 carbs in a bowl. This diet really does control cravings for sweets and bread and you will lose weight on it if you just consistently follow the plan.
Rating: Summary: Works at first... but don't you DARE cheat! Review: Don't get this book unless you want to completely change the way you eat for the rest of your life. This book has basically destroyed any healthy eating habits I once had with its "Reward Meal". I wasn't terribly overweight, but 145 pounds on a 5'4" body isn't the slimmest body in the world. I lost about 15 pounds, and at 130, I looked amazing. I was getting compliments for the first time in my life about my body; I couldn't believe how much difference 15 pounds would make. But then I started college. There's absolutely no way to follow this plan if you're a college student, unless you revolve your entire life around it. Not only did I gain back the 15 pounds I lost, but I gained the dreaded Freshman 15, and now weigh 160 pounds. My eating habits are terrible. I want to have fatty desserts at every meal, and the Reward Meal taught me that it was okay. It's not! The lack of fruit during the day on the CAD plan has also destroyed my snacking habits. I admit, the cravings were completely gone, and I felt very energized and great, but it doesn't last. I couldn't keep with the diet after moving to college, and I suspect that many others would have a hard time with it too.
Rating: Summary: Love it! Review: I started this diet six years ago. The first week is hard (stomache cramps)...after that it is cake. I lost 20lbs in two months. I then stopped paying attention to it as much, but since my cravings had been eliminated, I ate the same way and kept the weight off for four years without even trying. I recently had a baby...gained weight, and have started back on the diet. People complain of being hugry during the day...then they are not doing it right. People who complain of intestinal problems...take fiber at dinner (I think there is even a chapter about that). The reward meal is GREAT! Yes, you CAN'T eat your normal four slices of pizza then add a bagel and a candy bar...but you can eat 2 slices of pizza half a bagel and half a candy bar (it's supposed to be more balanced...but I eat in moderation whatever I thought about throughout the day...keeps me from cheating -especially in the first week!). As with all diets...for some it works, and for some it may not. Never be hungry...drink lots of water...read the book cover to cover!!! Don't assume you know what they will say! My mother lost 100 lbs in one year then hit a plateu. She's gained 15 lbs back in seven years (no longer following the diet). Pretty good if you ask me! Looking forward to returning to my previous weight in 2-3 months! Thank you Hellers! FYI - I would redo your website free of cost (maybe for a book) - not bad, but could be better!
