Summary: This book is a life saver!
Review: If this had been the first book I read on hormone therapy and menopause, it would've been the ONLY one I read. Because of her advice, I had a test for thyroiditis that came back positive. This would've not been caught if I hadn't read her book. It's great!

Summary: This book has ALL of the answers you've been looking for!!
Review: If you are a woman and looking for answers then this book is for you. Dr. Vliet covers everything imaginable for women's health. I HAD to be seen at her clinic after reading her book and finding answers to all of my questions that no other doctors had been able to answer. I had been previously misdiagnosed with so many things, I was beginning to lose all hope of ever feeling good again after I had a hysterectomy. Now, just 6 months after first visiting Her Place, I feel great, have more energy than I have since I was 20, weigh 115 pounds, and my sex life is now awesome! Don't miss an opportunity to change your life. Read this book and find confirmation for what you have suspected all along. This book can truly change your life!

Summary: A Must Read for Women 35 And Over
Review: If you think you are going crazy, you are not. You feel rundown, you are not interested in sex, you need more sleep, your mind handles information like an Intel 80386. This book is the answer. I have bought copies for my family and friends. I have recommended it to my business school class, and the MEN referred it to other women they know. Vliet gave me the ammunition to say, "No, it's not just that I'm getting older, and it's not just that I have young children, it's that something is wrong." I had my hormones tested, and despite lab results showing them to be "normal," they were all BELOW NORMAL for optimal function according to Vliet's clinical experience. This book is the best money you can spend on women's health. A literal lifesaver.

Summary: Excellent Resource for Women -- Esp. with Thyroid Disease
Review: In addition to breaking new ground in our understanding of the relationships between hormones and women's health, Dr. Vliet is a pioneer in terms of her attitude toward treating thyroid disease. Dr. Vliet does not believe that TSH tests are the almightly indicator of a woman's thyroid health. In fact, over on the alt.support.thyroid newsgroup, we've thought about taking a refreshing quote from her book --- "We are treating patients, not lab values" -- and putting it on a tee-shirt to wear to appointments with our doctors. "I'm a patient, not a lab value!" Dr. Vliet says that symptoms, along with elevated thyroid antibodies and normal TSH, may be a reason for treatment with thyroid hormone. Here's Dr. Vliet again. "The problem I have found is that too often women are told their thyroid is normal without having the complete thyroid tests done. Of course, what most people, and many physicians, don't realize is that...a 'normal range' on a laboratory report is just that: a range. A given person may require higher or lower levels to feel well and to function optimally. I think we must look at the lab results along with the clinical picture described by the patient...I have a series of more than a hundred patients, all but two are women, who had a normal TSH and turned out to have significantly elevated thyroid antibodies that meant they needed thyroid medication in order to feel normal. This type of oversight is particularly common with a type of thyroid disease called thyroiditis, which is about 25 times more common in females than males...a woman may experience the symptoms of disease months to years before TSH goes up..." Hip hip hooray, for Dr. Vliet!!! Mary Shomon, Editor, Thyroid Disease Website and Newsletter, http://thyroid.miningco.com

Summary: Necessary reading for all women!
Review: In her book "Screaming to Be Heard," Dr. Vliet presents compelling information on women's health concerns that have, for many reasons, been overlooked by the medical community. She discusses common health problems suffered primarily by women, and the relationships of these problems, both known and suspected, to a woman's hormonal levels. This book contains information related to women's health for a lifetime, not just for those seeking answers to illness. It is a valuable reference, and will be a treasured and dog-eared addition to the home library.

Summary: If you adore your wife but once a month can't stand her....
Review: No, she's not going crazy. Yes, you're right, something HAS changed. If the angel you married periodically turns into a witch there IS a reason. After almost four years of doctors (who didn't have a clue) and drugs (with nasty side effects) and dread (of another screaming epsiode over nonsense) and dispair (I can't go on like this) we discovered someone (Dr. Vliet) who does know what's going on. God love 'em, women are different (if you don't buy that, M'am, look in a mirror), and their chemistry is different--and researchers and medical practitioners don't seem to know it. One local doctor, who claimed to specialize in PMS simply didn't have a clue that The Pill she prescribed for the PMS symptoms was actually making things worse. Finally, we decided we had to take things into our own hands, and started learning what we could ourselves. The hands down, far and away, best of all source yet is "Screaming to be Heard..." Time after time, we've found ourselves saying, "Yeah, that's exactly how I felt," or "Right, that's exactly what happens." Buy two copies so you can both read it at the same time, then compare notes.

Summary: A REAL GOD-SEND
Review: One of the best books I've ever read regarding womens health. From Hormones, pms, memory loss, menopause, fertility, fibromyalgia, interstitial cystitis, chronic fatigue, depression, migraines,to quizzing yourself with self tests. Absolutely phenomenal what she covers, and unfortunately what most of our doctors are unaware of.

I carry it with me to the doctors office, as a Bible. Too often, we are told our symptoms are in our heads, and now finally we have a hard copy to say "ITS NOT"!! Thank you Elizabeth Vliet.

If you buy only one book on Womens health, make it this one. I give it a 10 star rating...
