Summary: A how-to book with great techniques that are EASY EASY EASY
Review: A how-to book with great techniques that are EASY EASY EASY to use. Really! This book is more then a book on influence. The title doesn't reflect what the book really is-the greatest insight into human behavior you will find. It is far more comprehensive and fascinating then a simple book on getting someone to do what you want. This is not a vicious book at all, which leads me to wonder why the author chose such an aggressive title. This is a book that HELPS relationships, not forces one person on another. You will read it cover to cover the minute you pick it up. Without reading it through it's easy to assume that this is a mean book, but trust me, if it were I would blast it to no end. It is positive, intriguing book that's highly readable.

Summary: Never Feel Powerless Again!
Review: I originally got this book while looking for reverse psychology techniques, and most of the secrets in this book work on almost anyone. Includes ways to make a great first impression, get anyone to like you, get the upper hand in an arguement, catch someone in a lie, get anyone to do a favor for you plus lots more! Some of the techniques I would classify as reverse psychology. This book is an invaluable addition to my library!

Summary: Excellent !
Review: I read them all. Every book on influence and persuasion I could get my hands on. Most were just bad rip offs of others. This is a cut above the rest.

I think that this will be an instant classic and set a new standard for these types of books. Lieberman's style is effortless. He divides the book into forty mini-chapters, each dealing with real-life situations. It takes all of the guess work out of which technique to apply when. An idiot can use these tactics. And I'm sure they will. But the smarter you are the more you will appreciate the cleverness and awesomeness of how they work. Lieberman goes further than just telling you what to say and how to act to get what you want. He explains, so a child could understand the psychology behind the techniques. In doing so, it makes it easy to tweak it and apply it in similar situations. Great content and a breeze to read. Wish it was longer, though.

Summary: these psychology tips do work
Review: I've faced three situations at work where I needed to convince someone to do something or diffuse a sticky situation. In each case I sat down ahead of time with this book and worked out a strategy of what to say using various techniques. Each time it worked like a charm.

The best example was when one of my co-workers was angry at one of my staff members for taking her seat. I used the technique of suggesting a punishment for him that I knew was too harsh (a day off without pay). I had to wince inside as I said it and cross my fingers that it would work. Immediately she said, "Oh no, I'm not asking for anything like that". And thus she began to realize that what he did was not that bad.

Getting someone to return your phone call by leaving a vague message that indicates you'd like to thank them or tell them some good news has also worked for me.

These are the kind of tips in the book. The book explains why they work very well. The book is easy to read. You do have to really think and plan ahead to apply the tips, but when you do, they are very effective.

Summary: Powerful, direct, effective, instant!
Review: Imagine yourself with the "upper hand" in almost any given situation. Dr. Lieberman shows you how with this excellent treatise on the psychology of influence and persuasion. Using an ecclectic collection of techniques, including a couple of NLP (Neurolinguistic Programming) techniques, you will truly learn how to never be taken advantage of again. Having nothing to do with manipulation, Dr. Lieberman's methods make use of skills and situations we all encounter every day in practically every interaction we have with others.

If you are concerned that using these techniques is "unethical" or "cheating" in some way, you can let that concern simply dissolve away *right now* because, as Dr. Lieberman points out, you're playing games anyway, you might as well play to win! Even if you don't *use these skills*, you will instantly be able to spot them when someone else is using them to influence you. This is a book you shouldn't be without!!

Some of my favorite chapters are:

Chapter 1 "Get Anyone to Like You...Every Time"
Chapter 2 "Get Anyone to Find You Irresistibly Attractive"
Chapter 9 "How to Tell if Someone Is Trying to Manipulate You"
Chapter 24 "Get Anyone to Return Your Phone Call Immediately"
Chapter 31 "Stop Verbal Abuse Instantly"
Chapter 37 "Get Anyone to Confide in You and Confess Anything"

and most especially,

Chapter 40 "Get Out of Almost Any Physical or Sexual Assault"

This chapter alone could save your life or the life of a loved one, on just one reading through.

The book is organized into 40 "mini-chapters" with the material presented in a friendly, readable style condensed into the tightest possible learning units. This revolutionary approach to teaching these revolutionary skills help you to instantly digest the material at the unconscious level and make them immediately available for your use. Not at all technical or clinical in approach, I'm sure you will be delightfully surprised at the simplicity and effectiveness of these methods, just as I was.

Simply excellent! Get it today without a second thought. :-D

Review: IT'S FASCINATING. I CANNOT BELIEVE I FUNCTIONED IN SOCIETY FOR THIS LONG WITHOUT KNOWING THE BASIC 101'S OF HUMAN BEHAVIOR. I STRONGLY SUGGEST THIS BOOK.

Summary: Sampling of cheap tricks, and the games people play
Review: Lieberman's books are in general a bit (though not a large bit) above the usual pop psychology standard. They are not good psychology, technically, nor do they summarize the ideas particularly well, but they are filled with potentially helpful ideas with examples.

He compiles a combination of most well known principles of influence and a few more obscure ones, and turns them into specific scripts. Like NLP books, the "script running" approach is likely to immediately inspire some reasonable skepticism and some revulsion in many readers. Lieberman is thankfully free of the annoying jargon nd repetitive slogans of NLP, but takes on much the same approach, and those who find one objectionable are likely to dislike the other as well.

People don't want to think that their daily lives are so heavily filled with stereotyped behaviors and predictable games that can be taken advantage of. But the sales figures of star performers and the success of charming manipulative people makes it clear that there are chinks in our rational defensive armor that can frequently be exploited. To what degree our lives are ruled by these tricks is an open question, Lieberman clearly thinks they are the way we normally do business with each other.

There are not a whole lot of original ideas here, but the author has done an enviable job compiling some of the more interesting ideas and providing simple examples. I think most people will quickly find that the scripts are examples only and not "formulas," but the principles are clear enough to use, and to protect yourself from others playing cheap psychological ploys on you, knowingly or inadvertently.

Lieberman has a lot of simplistic but funny comments like his explanation that seemingly undesireable men who end up with desireable women probably met them under circumstances where the women were aroused by something else. There doesn't seem to be much room for rational decision making in Lieberman's world, the reader is left to wonder how close it is to their world as well.

Summary: PRETTY GOOD... BUT NOT THE GREATEST..
Review: Once you start reading this book you won't be able to put it down... however it was not the best I've read on psychological tactics of manipulation. Some of the scripts were too dull or not real world and just plain common sense!
