Rating: Summary: Loved It! Review: The title of my review sums up my feeling toward this book. I had heard of Mr. Karas' earlier book, The Business Plan for the Body and had intended to buy it but like most of my good intentions, never got around to it.I frequently read his column in Good Housekeeping magazine and this week happened to see him being interviewed by Diane Sawyer. He has done a terrific helping her lose weight. Anyway, I bought Flip the Switch and immediately started reading it. This book makes sense. Also, Karas can write. The first two chapters on believing in your ability and the second, visualizing yourself successful at weight loss were extremely helpful to me. Also, they weren't silly overly Oprah pop psych. Karas gives his readers realistic advice. He then details all the excuses we humans use to avoid facing reality when it comes to weight loss, and he not only refutes them, he outlines how to overcome them. I began my weight loss program two days ago. I've had it with the excess weight and this time I going to make weight loss a priority, I'm fliping the switch and that switch is staying on for the rest of my life.
Rating: Summary: The Only Weight Loss Book You'll Ever Need! Review: There just seems to be one weight loss book after another these days. It makes me believe that everyone runs from book to book without losing weight. Well, I, too, have a favorite weight loss book. It came out early last year. It's entitled, Flip the Switch: The Secret to Weight Loss and was written by Jim Karas who is Diane Sawyer's weight loss coach. I've seen Karas from time to time on "Good Morning America" and have been quite impressed with his common sense approach to losing weight. In fact he was on "GMA" as recently as Monday, January 5, 2004. In his book, Flip, he begins by asking you if you're ready to embark on losing weight, he then encourages you to believe in your ability to be successful. You feel he is right beside your side throughout the book. I especially liked his tips on doing strength and resistance exercise. I have incorporated weights and bands into my exercise routine and I have lost 27 pounds in the past 5 months. Please realize that I used to spend an hour a day doing cardio exercise and never, I mean never lost a pound. Now, I spend approximately one hour twice a week on exercise and not only is my weight down, but my posture and body composition are changing before my eyes. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who desires an effective, empathetic road map to weight loss. I would also encourage readers to check out Karas' website jimkaras.com. I joined a couple of months ago and now Jim calls me once a week to encourage me. I'm thrilled. He's made Diane Sawyer look terrific and he's doing the same for me. This is the only weight loss book you'll ever need. Thank you Jim for a great and motivating read!
Rating: Summary: A Wonderful Book that Motivated Me!! Review: This book is terrific! Karas gives no-nonsense advice and gives it to you straight! He explains how it is not so much the diets that are not working for those of us who have been struggling to lose weight. We fail because of a lack of focus and BELIEF IN OUR ABILITY to succeed. I truly appreciate his candor and I love the way he touches on the many many emotional aspects of weight problems. It is like he KNOWS my every thought! I would recommend this book to anyone who has tried the 'other diets' but has not succeeded. I would recommend this to anyone who is unhappy with his/her body right now. Karas will show you how to change your life, how to take control, how to stop blaming and stop making excuses. He offers sound nutritional advice with none of the silly fad stuff. He shows you an exercise plan that is EASY AND EFFECTIVE without hours at the gym. Most importantly,he speaks to the emotional side of your problem and does not claim he can fix you, but explains how YOU CAN FIX YOU! Tired of searching? This is your answer. I enjoyed this book as much as I enjoy my new beverage of choice. Made from 100% organic soy, taste just like coffee and no caffeine. Finally, I got rid of that wired up feeling all day and feeling great. Look for it on the net by googling "s o yfee".
Rating: Summary: Are you kidding me? Review: This is probably the worst book on weight loss I have ever read. "All you have to do is decide that losing weight is more important than eating" -you have got to be kidding me! Perhaps if you knew nothing of basic nutrition and exercise and lived under a rock your whole life this book would be useful. Your money would be better spent with Weight Watchers or South Beach Diet.
