Summary: No Longer Stationary
Review: I read this book in 2-3 days in between taking care of an active toddler. I recommend this book to anyone suffering from chronic pain and thinks they can't do it. I am proof. I am doing it. I could not put this book down even when my child was throwing food on my walls. This changed my entire outlook on "I don't want to excercise, but I know I got to one of these days". This trainer is extremely realistic unlike the twins from 9 Steps to Metabolism. He has been overweight in his life. I've done his flip. Everytime I fall off the wagon. I will read from this book.

Summary: The Only Source for a Long-Term Weight Loss Plan
Review: I reiterate everything the other reviewers have said about this book so far. I've personally met Jim and he is refreshingly on of the most genuine, caring, and honest people I've ever met. He is truly an inspiration.

Both of his books offer some tough advice about weight loss (no gimmicks here!) His solution is the only to succeeding at long-term weight loss. Jim is constantly informed of new research and incorporates it into his writings. He is a contributing editor for Good Housekeeping magazine.

A tip I would give readers: Carry this book with you as if it were your Bible. (The softcover addition will be out soon, making this a little easier!!) I'll be honest, I tried once and failed. But I revisited the book and found it motivating once again. Now I re-read passages daily to keep me going! It works!!!! Don't fall for gimmicks and fad diets. The truth is right here! You will never need another source for weight loss.

Summary: I Just Lost 47 Pounds With This Book
Review: I started Jim's program from Flip The Switch back in May. Then, to take my program even further, I joined his web site www.jimkaras.com in July. Well, as of today, I am down 57 pounds and easily into a size 4. Me, Miss 16 on a good day, is now wearing a four.

I totally believe in Jim and his plan. Do you know that he calls his web members every week? That is such motivation to stick with the plan and he is the best coach for your mind and body.

Do yourself a huge favor. Start this program today.

Summary: I Flipped!
Review: I was already a fan of Jim's having read his previous book, Business Plan for the Body. I have had some success with this plan so I bought his new book and got even more practical advice and, best of all, an "excuse squelcher." I always used the "I'm too busy" excuse. I plan to read this book to accelerate the success I have already had with his first book. Bravo Jim!

Summary: FINALLY - someone who gets it!!
Review: I've tried all sorts of diets in my time (haven't we all?!?!), and for the first time ever I've found someone who really gets what a NORMAL person goes through to lose weight. And even more importantly - how to KEEP IT OFF!! I first picked up Karas's other book, The Business Plan for the Body, which was fantastic; the perfect nuts and bolts, no BS plan for getting yourself on the right track to lose weight. I lost 30 lbs in a little over two months and felt better than ever. But then I fell off course - you know how it goes - and started getting "busier" with work, home life, social life, and pretty much anything I could come up with as an excuse to not have the time to dedicate to staying healthy. I regained most, if not all, of the 30 pounds. But then I saw Karas on Good Morning America with Diane Sawyer talking about his new book. It has truly changed my life. The first time around, I was successful with weight loss b/c of the Business Plan, but Flip the Switch has really taught me how to make the little daily changes that, when you step back and look at them, add up to a comprehensive healthy lifestyle. Before I knew it, I re-lost the original 30 pounds, plus 15 more!! Thank you, Jim Karas, for changing my life and really teaching me how to do the little things that have changed my life forever! It's been almost a year and a half since I first started the Flip the Switch program, and I've lost a total of 45 pounds, and even more impressive, I've kept it off all this time! Thank you, Mr. Karas, you have empowered me to take control of my lifestyle, instead of just playing the victim. Thank you.

Summary: Reply to Skeptical Reader
Review: In response to the skeptical reader of July 9, 2003:
Jim Karas's formula for weight loss is straightforward and simple (not easy, but simple). He takes all of the mystery out of getting healthy and losing weight. The reason that no other reviewers mentioned how much weight they lost was because it's more about finding the program that works for each individual. This book has provided the tools but ultimately whether you lose weight or not depends on YOU. I read his first book too and both really worked for me. I happen to think that they're so easy to understand that they'll work for you too but as the old saying goes, "there's no such thing as a free meal".

Summary: A Unique Birthday Gift
Review: One month ago I celebrated my 50th birthday and along with my official invitation to join AARP I received a copy of Flip the Switch. I know, I know. Giving someone a weight loss book as a birthday present sounds insensitive, however, I have announced my intent to lose weight so many times, that all my friends knew that I wouldn't be offended.

The individual who gave me the book told me that the author, Jim Karas, is the guy who keeps Diane Sawyer looking so great. I've been a big Sawyer fan ever since she was on Sixty Minutes years ago, so I decided if it works for her, then it surely will for me.

Well, nearly a month into Karas' program and I'm down 17 pounds. What I particularly liked about the book is the author's emphasis believing in your ability to suceed, and I might point out that this book was written months before Dr. Phil's.

Karas. a University of Pa. grad., is a very talented writer - not what one would expect to encounter in the weight loss industry. I actually found myself quite caught up in the book. It almost reads like a novel. I liked the fact that this is a book geared toward women. He stresses the importance of exercise, especially strength work which I had never done. He stresses that weight loss isn't easy and that there are no quick fixes, however, the pounds can be taken off by what would seem to be, but evidently isn't to most of us, strategy, calories in minus calories out.

I'm losing weight and I have more energy than I've had in years. Who said middle age was a drag? Thanks Jim.
