Review: This book is the answer for those seriously committed to feeling & looking fit at any age. My husband (age 52) & I (age 46) have been on the diet since July '98-25 lbs. for him and 40 lbs. for me, 4 dress sizes, and untold energy. We wouldn't consider ever changing back to the way we used to eat, feel, or look.

Summary: Words to LOSE BY!
Review: This book was recommended by a client. I bought it. It sat on the table while I trained and completed the San Diego Marathon. Oh, how I wish it had been a part of my training!. My husband wanted to lose 20+ lbs. so we began together. 8 weeks and 25 lbs. for him and 9 lbs. for me we can't believe it. Never have either of us lost bulk like this. We feel great-look great-and know this is a lifestyle worth following.I recomment it for anyone wanting to get off the fat-fad treadmill.

Summary: I LOVE this diet
Review: This diet is one of the only ones that has ever worked for me and I actually ENJOYED doing it! I have tried all of the diets out there. I have bought many of the books and tried most of them. But the 40 30 30 system is the most realistic and healthy system to use. The most difficult thing I had to do was to create menus at first. It was hard at first to come up with exactly the right combinations of food to give me the right grams of each nutrient for each meal. The book provides some sample menus which are great but I wanted to incorporate foods I really loved. What I did was create note cards with meals I enjoyed with the proper balance and once that was done all I had to do was pull out my card and make my breakfast, lunch or dinner. This diet is great and I think anyone who is battling the bulge should give it a try. It even gives you a low carb option if that is your preference. But if you follow the system correctly you can still have potatoes, pasta rice and bread and lose weight effectively. Like I said..I love this diet! I am 11 pounds down and going!

Review: This is the book for those who want to get started quickly with a minimum of effort. Well organized and an easy read.

Summary: A good introduction to a workable system
Review: This was the first book I read on the subject of weightloss by combining macro-nutrients in the right percentage. I chose this over "The Zone" as it seemed more user-friendly, and I was right. The system can be complicated at first, until you get used to it, and the Zone's "blocks" are an additional complication.

The authors do a great job at explaining why it is so important to balance the right amounts of carbohydrate, protein and fat, and how to choose wisely. It could very well be the first health/fitness book a person reeds and the reader would not feel overwhelmed, as the information is given in a way that it can be easily understood without any previous experience or background in the field of nutrition. The data is complete but you don't feel you need to be a biochemist to understand it, like in some other health books.
The book also offers one week of menus, in different variations: the regular ones, the vegetarian and the "fat flush", for those who want a more rapid weight loss. The meal plans are furtherly taylored to your individual needs by establishing which type of 4 (A-D) you fall in, depending on your weight and activity level, and therefore being able to establish the right quantity of each food contained in the daily menus.

There is also advice on what to choose when dining out and nutritional info on common commercial products, as well as a food value guide (how much protein is in 4oz of chicken breast?) to help the reader make the right choices and design his menus following the 40-30-30 regimen.

Overall, a very good guide, which doesn't get 5 stars just because at an attentive eye (from someone who has a background in nutrition/health/fitness), the plan would be even better if it was lighter on the sodium and dairy, but still, it's a great improvement over the current nutrition of most people.
I would suggest it to anyone who wants to lose weight but also to anyone who wishes to improve his/her fitness performance and energy levels.

Summary: Our Journey into 40-30-30 Fat Burning Nutrition
Review: We got involved in 40-30-30 nutrition at a time when high-carb, low-fat diets were all the rage. Having been sales reps for a leading amino acid manufacturer, we had a broad, in-depth understanding of amino acids and the vital importance of protein in the diet. We became technical advisors to doctors, nutritionists, health food store employees, trainers and gym personnel in the area of dietary supplements. Gene even became known as "The Amino Man." In 1991 we began working with Dr. Barry Sears, a scientist who had exposed the negative effects of high-carb diets. Since his work suggested eating highter amounts of protein, we were interested.

We designed a diet for our own specific requirements and followed it for one month. Gene lost 12 pounds of pure body fat and gained 5 pounds of solid muscle. Joyce changed her diet from high carbs to 40-30-30 ratio and her body fat dropped about 6% and she added 4 pounds of lean muscle. The missing piece in our diets had been -- balance.

Our personal success led us to test our ratio on friends, bodybuilders, and some who were in poor health. The results were unbelievable: fat loss and sports performance were increased and the sick were feeling better and gaining muscle.

By 1992, we opened the BioSyn Human Performance Center in Seattle, Washington, the world's first 40-30-30 nutrition clinic, next door to a major health club and down the road from the Seattle Seahawks training center. Women who'd been training at the gym with no results suddenly were losing body fat and seeing muscle tone, thanks to 40-30-30. We were inundated with calls and requests. Doctors began turning to us for nutritional advice because some of their patients using the 40-30-30 program were dropping body fat, reducing cholesterol and blood pressure and raving about us.

The plan works because it addresses the hormonal connection to burning fat, by balancing insulin levels. And it works because the meal plans are SO simple and easy to use. Keep the book on your kitchen counter for two weeks. We guarantee after a while you'll naturally put together meals in the right ratio of balance and you'll only refer to the book occasionally. Summary: Lose Weight! Look Great! Feel Great!
Review: When I came across "40-30-30 Fat-Burning Nutrition" by Gene & Joyce Daoust, I had been using the "zone" for about a year. I was at a plateau (used Balance bars from healthfood store). When I followed the Daoust's program and used the products they recommend, I lost inches and a size within two weeks of switching. I was impressed! I didn't expect that especially since I had been on the program for a year. I now recommend the book and the shakes & bars to my clients in my clinical hypnotherapy practice with great results. Summary: It really helped me lose those unwanted pounds
Review: When I had my foot operated on and had to curtail my exercising for several months, I followed this plan and lost those unwanted pounds. You can imagine how surprized and happy I was to be able to still lose body fat weight without exercising. I faithfully followed the 40-30-30 diet and was very pleased with the results
