Rating: Summary: Awesome Weight loss and change of life! Review: I started this plan over one year ago, and I am now 2/3 the man I used to be. I tipped the scales at over 320 pounds and have dropped 91 pounds to date through eating 40-30-30 and proper exercise. The diet plan is easy to follow and gives you more room for error than any other plan on the market. By that I mean it is easy for you to hop back on the plan if you slip up one meal or even one or two days. Once your body gets "Balanced" you maintain your weight, with a ton of new found energy. You begin to burn fat instead of storing it and your cravings become less and less a factor in dieting.The addition of sample menus completes this easy to follow change in eating and helps keep you on track and focused. This book has fat flush meals, vegetarian fat flush meals and plain old 40-30-30 balanced meals, so pick one and get started. I won't kid you, the first few weeks were rough but after that the plan melted off, on average, 10 pounds per month and I'm still dropping pounds and inches with only 9 pounds to my goal weight. I've gone from a XXXL and XXL to an XL and from 46-48 pants to 36-38 pants. My heart rate at rest is 48 and my blood pressure is 116/72. I eat balanced meals and snacks when I want and exercise 4-5 times weekly, and my new found favorite snack is a "Balance" bar. I still have difficulty with Carbs, so I eat them before heading to the gym, and use that extra energy as a boost for a better workout! This plan is awesome and comes highly recommended by me. Just watch your pocket book, because when you drop as much weight as I have a new wardrobe is a much needed and more than welcome expense!

Rating: Summary: 40-30-30- fat burning nutrition Review: I stumbled across this book by accident. Probably the best accident of my life. The book was an easy read, easy to follow, and the plan works outstanding. I have lost almost 45lb in the last 4 months, and thats with holiday cheating included. The science and theories were very interesting and really made alot of sense the way they were presented. The meal plans are clear, and include more meals and more food then I had eaten prior to the plan. I loved the sample menu planners and especially the food guide which allows you to make any substitutions you want to achieve the same result. The theory and the whole plan are basic enough, that it allowed me, after just a week or two, to "know" what I was supposed to be eating and I have pretty much stopped using the book as a reference all together. But the pounds just keep falling off!
Rating: Summary: Quick, simple, easy to follow book Review: I was looking for a good, simple, and moderate way to lose weight and this book has gotten me into a healthy pattern. I read the book in one night and started with the Fat Burning recipes the next day. I've been following the zone plan for 4 weeks and what has amazed me the most is that my sweet cravings are gone! Before starting the 40-30-30 plan, my diet consisted of 80-90% carbohydrates and I always craved sugar. With the balance of nutrients, those cravings have disappeared. The diet has been easier for me to follow since I started using a meal delivery service in San Diego that delivers dinners in the 40-30-30 ratio. I also use the Ironman bars as snacks and those have been satisfying when I get hungry in the afternoon. The zone methodology is very sound and I strongly recommend this book as a jump-start to the zone program. It's an eating style that is sensible and does not feel like dieting.
Rating: Summary: Life Changing! Review: In October of '97 I was talking with a doctor friend of mine about my high cholesterol. I had just had it tested and it was an alarming 282. I'm 35 years old and the Doctor told me I was looking at heart trouble by the time I was 50. He suggested getting the 40-30-30 book and I did. Its now April of '98 and I've lost 23 lbs and my cholesterol is down almost 100 points. The 40-30-30 way of eating has become a lifestyle for me and I can't believe I'm so excited about a diet. Because of what its done for me at least 10 people I know have gone on it. It is the best thing I have ever done for my health.

I followed the fat flush diet for two weeks and lost 10 lbs....by the third week down 15 lbs....I was so impressed had to tell my friends who are having the same results.....this combined with the Rexall Bioslife Fiber has been astounding...the book is readable, practical and I am a believer!!!!
Rating: Summary: Can't Believe I'm not Wanting Food All the Time! Review: Last night, while my husband sat a few feet from me, he ate brownies and I wasn't even tempted. I was still full from dinner. I feel like I'm on diet pills, but without the side-effects and cost. Prior to starting FBN, I was eating everything that wasn't nailed down. A little history: a couple of years ago I lost 21 lbs with The Zone. It really helped me understand why SOME people need less carbs and more protein. It was a lot to wade through, but very helpful. My doctor did blood work and found everything was super! I have II diabetes and HBP. Anyway, I somehow got out of the Zone, but never regained all my weight so I knew I was onto something. Recently I started the Fat Burning Nutrition because it was so similar, but easier to follow. Now, once again, my sugar levels are even, I'm feeling wonderful and most of all I'm not hungry all the time while eating regular, wholesome food. Rating: Summary: Zone made easy for regular people! Review: My doctor started me on this book in June 2004. I am 5'6" and was hitting the scales at my highest ever - 200 lbs. I was having trouble fitting in my size 14/16s and couldn't stand the thought of buying new, bigger clothes. I have always been a woman that "knew" what was good and bad in my refrigerator (I've read just about every article about dieting written), and had trouble fitting in exercise - especially after having two kids. The Zone was outrageously complicated, and so many other diets had huge restrictions on fruit and most veggies, and just didn't seem to make sense from a nutritional standpoint - I couldn't stick with them for long. My cravings, weird rules and the heavy restrictions on almost everything I loved was always a bomb ticking away inside. Then I found 40-30-30.
It is now six months later, I've lost 40 pounds and counting. I have a new way to eat for life! I lost 14 pounds the first month, then seven, then six and the rest has been consistently coming off ever since and - get this - I haven't managed to fit exercise in yet (still trying). I was very religious the first three months, then fell in to more of a settled routine where I am comfortable with the general parameters without refering to the book or my notes very often. And the beauty is, since you are changing the way you build your meals, I can "cheat" - I really consider it more like living your life, not cheating. I had chocolate cake at my son's & daughter's birthday parties one month in to the diet, had a glass of wine WITH my dinner during the second month but it was no big deal! My new way of eating wasn't disrupted, weight loss continued, and I very rarely have any cravings - I find that most of them are psychological anyway (a habitual reaction to stressful situations, etc.). Odd thing is that most of the things that I used to REALLY love (all carbs), don't return the same old satisfaction anymore - just not the same response from my body - that's definitely not something I expected.
I even managed to stay "even" during the difficult holiday weeks (Thanksgiving, Christmas & New Year's). I thought for sure that my excesses would tip the scale since I seemed to indulge in so much! But here I am, right on track! Looking back, I seem to make enough slightly different choices at all of these events to still maintain some balance (like eating shrimp cocktail along with some chip & dip instead of a plate of straight carbs).
Some of the key things for me were:
1) The ability to substitute my ZonePerfect bars (Fudge Graham are best) for up to two meals a day - really a lifesaver when you're on the go at work and with the family and it's critical that you not skip your meals.
2) There are really quick & easy meals that fit in to a life that was used to all of the convenience foods.
3) Please, those of you reading those "the cost of good food is so high!" reviews... have you added up the cost of all of your sodas, chips, ice cream, etc., lately? Even with the cost of fresh fruits, vegetables and lean meats, I'm still spending less.
4) New, clear approaches to fast food and restaurant eating is outlined - I even check the websites of different companies to makes sure my picks keep my carbs, protein & fat in balance - it would surprise you what some of the "healthy" items add up to!
5) I have almost completely eliminated hydrogenated oil and aspartame from my diet - not easy considering they're in darn near everything these days! (I'm not sure if that came from my doctor or the book.)
6) First meal within one hour of getting up, last one four hours before bed.
Good luck! It's a great book, clearly and simply written, and it's been a lifesaver for me!
Rating: Summary: WEIGHT LOSS DELICIOUSLY EASY!! Review: My husband was diagnosed as borderline diabetic after a back surgery and I was diagnosed with hypertension, I believe caused by overwhelming stress at work. My husband started with 1800 Cal Diabetic Diet. He does not take insulin, his diabetes is controlled by diet. I joined him because I want to end my struggle on weight loss. The problem was, we both felt too much limited with choices in the lists. 40-30-30 Fat Burning Nutrition is God's gift. By finding our specific Zone, we are able to bake that cake and eat it too while losing weight 24 hours a day!. We stayed on it to make sure we eat balanced meals. Rating: Summary: Readers please beware of uninformed dieting!!! Review: Our body needs 55% of total calories to come from carbohydrates, 30% (or less) to come from fat, and ONLY 15% from protein. I feel this book is misleading...we need a high percentage of carbohydrates for energy!!!!!
