Summary: The brightest ray of hope for FREE weight loss and health
Review: As one of many searching for yet another way to get a grip on eating habits, I found this book to be the brightest and most get-up-and-go books I've ever read. Harvey Diamond writes in a manner clear enough for all to understand, and also delves a little into the intricacies of how our bodies work. I've put the Natural Hygiene principles to work and have seen and felt some wonderful changes in myself. Highly recommended to all, not just those looking to lose weight. I use this book as a yardstick with which I compare other diet books and nothing else has come close. Read it! Read it! It's exciting

Summary: The best weight loss book ever written
Review: This is the paperback that changed my diet and started me on the road to ultimate health. Based on the principles of Natural Hygiene, in this book the Diamonds tell you precisely how to lose all kinds of weight while also improving your health as a side effect. Sure beats those side effects the drug folks provide us with when they try to make us healthy, eh? Written in a wonderfully conversational style, Fit for Life reads like a novel while providing some of the easiest "how-to-do-it" information in the entire field of health literature. If there's a single book I'd recommend to get someone off the Standard American Diet and on to a new, healthy approach, this is the one

Review: Even though it is written in a conforting tone targetting the overweight person who finally want to succeed in losing his overweight it is suitable for everybody who wants to get something to ponder or some first insights what good nutrition is all about. What you don't know WILL hurt you. This book helps with the know-part. Changed MY life. (... and habbits

Summary: The book that changed my life
Review: I started on this diet 18 months ago and boy, what a difference.

I am sharper, brighter, more alive, better at my work, more energetic, can eat as much as I like, suffer no ill health or pain and discomfort...I could go on all day but I think you get the idea. This book is not a diet fad, it is a life changer.

You may think that a book talking about fresh fruit and vegetables, air, water, sunshine and exercise is just common sense. Well you would be right, it is. Unfortunately with all the different opinions we receive from doctors, health advisers and food companies it is easy to get confused about what we should eat.

I would suggest trying this diet for 10 days and see how you feel. I suspect you will notice an improvement in well being very quickly and any way the money you spend on the book will be paid back by a lower grocery bill (fresh produce is cheaper than cooked or processed). What have you got to lose?

Well done Harvey and Marilyn Diamond for having the courage to speak the truth, and thank you.

Another book I would recommend that speaks the truth is The Story of My Experiments with Truth by Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.

Summary: Hmmm
Review: This books main premise is that we should eat lots of fruit and raw watery foods, and that we should avoid certain food combinations. The authors give specific recommendations as to what food group comninations should be avoided, or how long you should wait between eating one food group and eating another.

So the question is this: Is this plan effective? Well, in my opinion, it is certainly a good idea to increase fruit and vegetable intake. But on the other hand, do you really need to read a 350 page book to know that? And why do they emphasizze fruit so much over vegetables?

And as for the food combination guidelines, it is really a tough call to say whether or not they are effective. But I'll tell you this: they definitely create some kind of limits on what you can eat, and that is probably what some practitioners of Fit For Life have found effective. Its not necessarily the specific guideleines in the book; it is probably just thte fact that if you follow there guideleines, you cannot eat anything you want anymore, and thus you will proabbly loose weihgt and have some kind of result.

Nevertheless, I feel that the FIt for Life eating guideleines are unbalanced and excessive, and I would not recommend that anyone strictly follows the diet.

Summary: Highly recommend
Review: Previous to purchasing "Fit For life", I had read a number of negative reviews concerning the principles outlined within its pages. Much of the bad press came from noteworthy fitness buffs and mags, so I naturally assumed that Fit for life was indeed another trendy get -rich- fast diet book. That is, until I finally read it and began to apply the principles vigorously to my daily life. What a difference six months have made! My complexion is radiant, I am more shapely, and I have much more energy. Even my hair and nails are shinier and more beautiful. I now eat a mainly raw food diet high in fruit, vegetables, whole grains, nuts and seeds. Although I do not always combine them properly- sometimes my fave breakfast is a hot bowl of steel cut oats, raisins, walnuts and flaxseed with skimmed milk- I enjoy a greatly enhanced quality of life thanks to the principles first discovered in the wonderful book. I have to admit that a few of their scientfic observations are a bit askew, but please do not let that cloud your heart on what is essentially, a terrific little book on improving your life and health.

Summary: Book? more like a research paper
Review: I threw the books away after a few pages of nothing but rantings of "how great I am" by the author. They may have gotten me to buy some books but I will not read them or pass them on,... they are only fit for the burn barrel. At least they can produce some heat to cook my steak.

Summary: It won't kill you..
Review: I remember reading this book for the first time back in the early 1990's. It is a good book and, if you simply pick and choose the main theme - eating a lot of fruit and some vegetables, you will loose weight. I don't agree (and have never agreed with some of the theories outlined); but do agree with the 'suckling up to a cow' part. I really limit my milk intake to 'just enough' to keep my bones and teeth intact! Fresh fruit is one of the darling natural foods placed on this earth.

This book is overall good. I've probably read it twice in the last 15 years and was recently thinking about it again - thus, my visit to this site. I'm amazed at the folks that still follow this in spite of the smear campaign that was lanched against Diamond many years back. This book is really 'Californian' at heart and does tend to reek of Yuppies in 'Benzes and Bimmers - but, hey, it works and beats eating Steak, eggs, cheese, and pork rinds 3x a day for ever (aka Atkins)!

Not a 5 star read. I gave 4 stars because even if you just do the fruit/veg thing, walk a little, and mix in some common sense you'll get healthy.

Summary: Changed my life
Review: Short and sweet. I have now kept the weight off for twelve years and I attribute it to the fact that this book is about lifestyle not diet. Fit for life is a great system and plan to change the way you eat and live, to maintain a VERY healthy lifestyle without sacrafice of the food you like. If you are someone who is looking to have a life changing experiance and move on to a healthy and prosperus life then this is the nutrition book for you.

Since I have been on this diet, all the cravings for junk food have gone. I was someone who lived for sugar and now I do not want any of it. I use to crave coffee in the morning as well but realized I didn't want that wired up feeling

Summary: Love this diet for quick weight loss
Review: I picked up this book in 1984. It was the first time I ever had a problem with being over weight (30 lbs at that time).

I'm the kind of person who can never really stick with anything if it doesn't work quick. But the one thing I could stick with was the fruit until noon. When I saw the pounds falling off at warp speed, I kept increasing the fruit until later in the day. I mean once you start seeing the scale start dropping, you are inspired to keep going. to me the headaches sucked but the weight loss was worth it.

The longer I could eat the fruit during the day the more weight I lost. I would usually lose 7lbs in a week just following the principals of the moring regimine and the lunches and trying to behave at dinner. (BUT AT THAT TIME i ALSO DRANK ALCOHOL LIKE A FISH AND IT STILL WORKDED)

I could never really stick with the evening meals. It was just too restrictive for me, for long periods of time. I just love my meat an dairy products.

anyway, I've lost a lot of weigh each time I went on this way of eating. Now over 20 years later, I am convinced, if I do nothing else but eat the fruit during the day as long as I can stand it, (like I used to) and make sure I get 2/3 veggies and 1/3 "hard" food at each meal, I'll be able to take it off again.

I give it five stars for quick wonderful weight loss, but I would never consider staying on it for years at a time retrictively. I would however, stick witht the food combining to the best of my ability for the rest of my life.

Oh, and by the way when I would drop 30lbs at a time, I ALWASY CHEATED a LOT.

So, tomorrow after all these years, I'm coming back to something that actually works to get the weight off. There's just something about those fruits and meal proportions that works beyond belife.

Still, I believe after you get the weight off, it's time to start eating "normally" which is also quite healty.

thanks to the diamonds!
