Rating: Summary: Confused Review: I was very committed to this program and gave it two months worth of (what I now consider) money which is the only thing I lost. The book is confusing, lots of crossover but no clearcut instruction. Are all of these supplements really good for your body? I wonder.
Rating: Summary: This book is a huge help to dieters! Review: This book helped me to find a doctor who would help me and I feel better already. I am free from my torturous cravings for sugar. I have probably needed medical attention for years but just thought I needed to try harder. So much of what is in this book, you can do on your own. Her listings in the back for resources helped me find a holistic D.O. who knew immediately what I needed. Thank you Ms. Ross!
Rating: Summary: Help worth reading and applying Review: I read The Diet Cure and found its information to be easily accesible. I took the self-tests included in the book in the chapters where I felt my problems might lie. Then I used the treatments suggested. In my case for depression and panic attacks. I've been using the treatments the book recommended and have noticed a great improvement. Since I can't take the prescription drugs for these problems, the information and suggestions I found in this book have been a life saver.
Rating: Summary: What a life saver! Review: I have struggled most of my life with a weight problem that has only gotten progressively worse. My addiction to sugar and starches was running my life. I wanted to stop, but couldn't. The principles in this book have given me control back over my choice and amount of food consumed. By using two amino acids three times a day, I am able to calm the "binge monster" inside me. I don't think about food all the time now. Thank you Dr. Ross for giving me back my hope! This book is a very demanding read, so take notes and give yourself time (several weeks) to get through it.
Rating: Summary: Living spontaneous and guilt free Review: If you have been living a see-saw diet versus non-diet existence and know deep down that what you see is not what you get, Julia Ross' book will give you a clear understanding on the difficulties of living this way. Having myself played this game of losing and gaining weight since I was 16 in the late 1950's, I have made a vow to myself not to let society control who I am. I will not give up on myself and use everyone else's idea of who I should be and how I should look. This book helps but this into perspective and allows you to choose freely what and who you are becoming. Most of us, know what and how to manage our weight, we've done it so many times. Julia Ross allows you to think for ourselves and to decide how and when it will happen. The book also explains how food supplementation and amino acids taken regularly will help not to have food cravings. Having been a firm believer in this approach, our family has been taking supplements since 1983. Yes, this does work but some of the cravings are in your head, your memory plays tricks and you start to want foods that are unhealthy. Diets don't work period.....If you are not ready to give something up and try another way, that is your choice and responsibility. Sometimes one has to pay a dear price for this freedom but one must have the freedom to choose one's way. No one has the right to control or be controlled. Another book that follows this train of thought is Tao of Eating by Linda Harper . You'll be pleasantly surprised to hear that many are on your side in choosing this non-diet approach to living. Good luck! God bless!
Rating: Summary: A miracle... for me Review: This book was extremely helpful for me. After reading it, I took the recommended supplements and a neck and hip pain problem I have had for years disappeared! (The chiropractor had said my muscles were too tense, but all relaxation techniques recommended didn't help.) In addition, I was able to stop using appetite suppresants and not feel hungry, without gaining weight. Of course, I'm sure the advice in the book doesn't work for everyone, but it did for me.
Rating: Summary: The Diet Cure Delivers on its Promise Review: This book's ability to bring clarity and explanation to how the body and brain respond to food consumption is fantastic. What makes the book so rich and helpful are the simple explanations of the complex biochemical processes at work in causing cravings and weight gain. The very detailed instruction on building a supplement regimen was also extremly helpful, and when followed, this regimen is miraculous. I have recommended this book to many friends and family members, and for those who are ready to give up dieting and make a true lifestyle change to benefit their health this book is indispensible.
Rating: Summary: Cure what? Review: Decent book, but the idea of taking all of these amino acids throughout the day isn't realistic at all. She does thoroughly explore the possibility of food allergies for many people. She really gives a tepid endorsement of the Atkins/Eades High Protein diet, albeit with more vegetables. But I bought, like the idiot I am, every amino she recommended and did not get the benefits she said I'd get. Save the money. Give up milk, nutrasweet, and sugar, and go from there.
Rating: Summary: Another Expensive quick fix that doesn't Review: I'll admit I fell for this book. I went out and spent a lot ofmoney on the supplements recommended and took them faithfully. Iexpected some result even if not a "cure." Absolutely nothing. The best I can say is that it didn't make me feel worse except in my wallet.
Rating: Summary: Calling it "the diet CURE" may be streching it a bit! Review: Overall,I think Julia Ross does a nice job of identifying areas of health and disease that are not well understood and non-specific. The majority of what she presents is solid information. But unless you don't mind popping pills all day, I'd doubt she's going to get a very high compliance rate on any of the diets she's presented. I think Ms. Ross should stick to her area of expertise (clinical psychology) and leave the nutrition part to a real nutrition expert. She unfairly states that a registered dietitian (RD)is behind the times because RD's think nutrition should come from wholesome food rather than your drugstore. To negatively label and undervalue an RD in the manner that Ms. Ross does is downright ignorant. Also, she states "certified nutritionists aren't usually perfect either". I'm surprised she is not aware that there is nothing rigorous about being a CN. The CN certifying association will give you the credentials for a check and experience you say you had (they'll take your word for it).I think by now it should be clear that the proper treatment of our clients should come from a team of health care professionals, understanding that NO ONE is perfect... not even Ms. Julia Ross. Finally, the other disturbing aspect of this book is her reference to diets/regimens that have been clearly proved to be ineffective. Eating for your Blood Type??? That diet myth was debunked months ago!! Where are you getting this stuff from Julia??
