Rating: Summary: Will help on Healing Journey Review: Louise L. Hay took the proverbial lemons and made lemonade out of them. She made beauty out of ashes, she truly turned her life around. And, having done so, she shares with the world how we can accomplish healing also. Ms. Hay is an inspiration. Someone had given me a copy of this book about 12 years ago. At the time I was not ready for all this what I called "hocus-pocus" back then. But because of a class I am taking for holistic healing, I had to purchase this book use as part of a research paper. I am so glad that I did, because this edition is even more beautiful than the original one I had. For those on the healing path, this is a definite buy. Keep in mind though that she is coming from a metaphysical perspective and that such things as a virus do come from sources other than ourselves.
Rating: Summary: you can heal your life Review: It is an excellent book. I would recommend it particularly to all cancer and chronic illness patients.
Rating: Summary: Beautiful Illustrations Review: I was attracted to the book by the beautiful and inspiring art-work. I believe the art in itself communicates joy and peace. I am in synch with Louise Hay's perspective. I am in the nursing profession and do believe in medical science, however, I have witnessed first hand how anger specifically contributes to poor health patterns. We should all take care of ourselves mentally, spiritually, and physically.
Rating: Summary: Change my Life... Review: about 20 years ago, I was blessed to have my massage therapist put this tape in for me to listen to. One and half hours later I was forever changed. The empowerment I felt when I got off the table is unexplainable. For anyone who wants to be the 'change', this is the book or bk on tape for them. U just have to believe in your own natural power/ability to change. Things don't change you, you decide to change. Life is about choices.
Rating: Summary: Ridiculous! Review: This book was given to me as a gift. I put it on the shelf, suspecting it was similar to other pop-psych works "shared" with me in the past. I was correct. As I later pulled the book out to donate it to GoodWill, I noticed in the back the index of medical conditions, each with a supposed "probable cause". Can it be that vertigo, glaucoma, diabetes are all the result of failure to know and accept the self? So I read through as much as I could stomach of the text. I can hardly believe the wrecklessness with which Ms. Hay opines on the etiology and treatment of any and all life problems. Medical concerns? Financial distress? Relationship issues? Hay recommends forgiving someone, as this is the common source of all ills. As a mental health professional with strong empirical beliefs, I found Hay's writing to be misleading and self-righteous. What credentials does she have to suggest that her personal knowledge overrides hundreds of years of real research and clinical progress dealing with medical and psychological problems? To offer readers a simple-minded solution to all concerns, despite the existence of validated treatments they might seek, is absolutely unethical. While specific elements of her advice are borrowed from known clinical theory, it appears only accidental that she says anything of real value. I strongly recommend you look elsewhere if you truly desire to improve yourself under the guidance of an "expert". Validated resources for self-improvement I recommend: McKay & Fanning -- Self Esteem, Alberti & Emmons -- Your Perfect Right.
Rating: Summary: Many Thanks To Louise Review: What a great book for a gift or for ones self. I think this book should be a subject studied in all schools before one can graduate and in life for everyone. Louise has helped me to heal many things from my childhood that caused me physical pain and illness that doctors could find no reason for their existance and the many things deep within me that I was not even aware of. Once realized and released I expereinced healing. Thanks Louise for helping me get to the truth and the root cause of what was making me sick and causing me pain.
Rating: Summary: Sadly lacking, a waste of my time. Review: This book does a great disservice to many people with genuine PHYSICAL illnesses. To say that the probable cause of AIDS is, "Feeling defenseless and hopeless. Nobody cares. A strong belief in not being good enough. Denial of the self. Sexual guilt'" or that the probable cause of Migraines is, "Dislike of being driven. Resisting the flow of life. Sexual fears," is beyond the bounds of good sense. Hay certainly has a right to express her beliefs. What concerns me is that people will see her as an expert because she's a published author, and not seek necessary medical care. I'm all for good, valid complementary therapies. Hay, however, would have us believe that the cause of all illness is psychological/spiritual in nature. Her complete failure to acknowledge actual physical conditions renders this book virtually useless. It lacks reasonable medical foundation, and essentially blames us for our pain. I'd say take this book not with a grain of salt, but with an entire salt block.
Rating: Summary: One of the best books I have read to help chronic pain Review: This book was recommended to me because I have suffered from serious low back pain since I was 15. I had gotten to the point of being very unhappy in life, very little activity I could do. The guidance from this book has helped me change that. I am much happier again. My back pain has even decreased! It is amazing. If you can read the book, and work to live by it, you can have a happier life. I know I have. And I have recommended this book to everyone I know. On a side note, it very much complements the book "Excuse Me, Your Life is Waiting" by Lynn Grabhorn. I read that a few years earlier. It just didn't get into the details of this one. I would recommend reading both.
Rating: Summary: The beginning of my journey started with this book! Review: Louise Hay is a force of love, healing and compassion and this book is one of her chief vehicles for sharing it with the world. Use the book like a manual for living.
Rating: Summary: Buy one for yourself and give one as a gift! Review: If you have been searching for a different way of thinking this is the book to purchase... When I first read this book years ago it was very unsettling and I thought it was "out there". I decided to give it another chance and read it with an open mind. I am glad I re-read the book and I have given it away many times to people who were struggling in their lives, people who think they have their act together and everyone in between. The new edition with the beautiful illustrations just adds to the beauty of the words. I have purchased the book again and again because I give my copy away. It is a gift for yourself and anyone you care about!
