Rating: Summary: MISINFORMATION Review: I bought this book (used- thank god) because I was getting bored with my current lifting routine and I wanted to see what it had to offer. The exercises were fine but the nutritional info was horrible. I have no idea what kind of certified trainer would tell an active woman that she can survive on 1200-1500 calories per day. Maybe if she didn't move at all but that is clearly unhealthy foe someone that is incorporating weights and cardio into their lifestyle. So after I read that it completely ruined the entire book for me because I can't take anything these authors say seriously. Very disappointing!
Rating: Summary: This does work! Review: I bought this book to help me to lose weight, firm and tone my muscles and enhance my running ability. I like to run but not lift weights. After suffering from injuries and overuse in training for races, I realised I had to strengthen my body. I read the reviews and bought the book. For months it sat on my desk as it was hard to settle into a strength training routine. I have run for years and even though I lost some pounds here and there, my body shape never changed. If I went on running break, I gained weight back. Around 6 weeks ago (after an extended running break due to injury), I made a conscious choice to build a strength training regime using the exercises in this book. I started with 3 lbs weights then increased to 5lb weights after 4 weeks. I also ran a few miles 3 times per week.It was hard at first to strength train but after 6 weeks, I am now beginning to see results. I have dropped almost 2 pant sizes but the scale has barely moved (around 2 pounds). My arms look firmer and more defined. I feel lighter. Granted, I haven't followed the strict 14 day regime in the book but I did modify my eating habits to lessen portions, eat my own cooking more, have more vegetable and fruit, and less fat. I haven't cut anything from my diet. My running has even begun to improve. The book is not a cure-all. Will-power, motivation and dedication go a long way. But the exercises were easy to follow and well-laid out. I had no aches or pains completing them. I train a home with dumbells, so I could only do some of the exercises as some used gym equipment.
Rating: Summary: Great Explanations of Visualization and Technique Review: I bought this book the week I decided to join the gym. I knew that I wanted to do some weight training, and was looking for a book that would provide detailed explanations of proper form and technique. This is a fantastic book in this regard, including information on both freeweights and machines (typically, Cybex equipment). Also, I was very pleased to find a lot of time given to the explanation of visualization...a technique that sounds a little hokey on the outset, but I've found really helps in achieving results, both in and out of the gym. The downsides of this book are it's lack of index (making it a little more challenging to find specific exercises on a moment's notice), and it's very flamboyant writing style. (If you just looked at the style, and not the content, you'd think it were some sort of get-rich-quick scheme...there is very heavy use of exclamation points and superlatives.) Also, I'm not quite sure I buy into their nutrition guidelines. At the very least, I was frustrated to see that all of the protein sources they listed were animal-based. (I consider myself a vegetarian who reserves the right to eat meat on special occasions, so the sources weren't all that helpful to me.)
Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: This book is easy to use. Not only is the book great, but he authors are too. They offer their web site address in the back of the book . There you can find their email addresses, and ask them questions, if you need clarifications about the workouts. The book explains basic biology, breaks down the correct way to lift for each excersise, and nutrition. This is a great book for all women at any stage of fitness. I'm seeing great results!
Rating: Summary: If you're ready for a total body makeover, buy this book! Review: After looking at a variety of books on the subject of weight loss, nutrition and weight lifting (for tone and shape) I finally settled on this book. It is a GREAT book geared toward females that are ready to take control of their bodies. I found the book to be very unintimidating and I liked the informal verbiage. There are several sections to the book. The 1st details common myths and misconceptions about nutrition and fitness. The 2nd section covers the power of the mind and how to harness your own positive thinking. I LOVED this section - very motivational! (it amazes me that other books on the topic of the body neglect this subject entirely). The 3rd section coves the basics of body sculpting and is very informative, especially for people new to the subject. The 4th section lays out a nutrition program for optimum health, but also helps you understand how nutrition impacts your body. The 5th section focuses on rest and recovery and the rest of the book details the weight training program (very well laid out, with information on correct techniques and posture). This book is like having a personal health and fitness instructor, geared especially for women. I HIGHLY recommend it!
Rating: Summary: A Fabulous Book Review: If you are going to buy one book on women's bodysculpting, this is the one. James Villepigue clearly knows bodybuilding expertly, and understands female anatomy and physiology. His subject is covered thoroughly, and the individual exercises are precisely explained in comprehensible language. Follow the program, and you will see results in no time!
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Book!! Review: This book is wonderful!! If you are willing to change your eating habits and follow their exercise plan, you will see results. I really enjoy having a structured plan to follow. They have great explanations for the exercises, as well as pictures. The supplement and nutrition areas are very informative. I carried the book around with me for about five days, just trying to absorb the information. Now a day doesn't go by that I don't use it as a reference. I did go and purchase a Weider's journal to track my progress with. That is the only weak area in the book, the journal pages. I just didn't care for the ones that came with the book. I can't say enough good things about this book!
Rating: Summary: You need a gym Review: If you can not make it to a gym, or plan on working out at home, don't get this book. I naively thought that this book would be for home work outs.
Rating: Summary: In a nut shell, this book is the best of the best... Review: I had the pleasure of reading the Body Sculpting Bible For Women and found the material absolutely great. James and Hugo have answered so many of the questions I had, plus cleared up so many misconceptions I've heard throughout my years of training. It is so easy to get frustrated when you hear one person telling you this and another telling you the complete opposite. How do you determine who's right and who's wrong? Well after reading this book and putting the information to the test, I am finally able to say that the program in this book really works! They don't make empty promises and have done a really good job of leaving the chaff out. With so many so called fitness authorities out there, it is refreshing to read a book that offers both fundamental information that must be included in order to successfully educate, coupled with a plethora of very innovative and exciting material that works great. I would like to point out that before I purchased this book, I did read some of the other reviews and found most of them helpful. I did however see two very negative and coincidentaly very similar reviews completely sabatoging the authors and their book. It is my duty as a satisfied customer to mention that these two terrible reviews are not only unwarranted, but also way out of line! It would not surprise me if a competitor had done there best to run a sabotage campaign of sorts, in an evil attempt to hurt the efforts of this great book... In summary, the books are without question an essential tool for helping every woman to achieve a fabulous body! GREAT WORK JAMES AND HUGO!
Rating: Summary: A great book! Review: This book is full of the information I needed to get in great shape. I read the other comments and I agree that it is the best book I have found on the subject. Exercise descriptions are detailed. Photos are crystal clear. Workout schedules are complete. Nutrition info is a bonus! With all the other books out there, this one stands head and shoulders above the rest. Great job. Oh yeah, I read those two critical reviews and believe me they are wrong! They must be planted by another author or are written by people who have not followed James and Hugo's prescription for physical perfection. Why slam something that is obviously appreciated by so many? I guess there's always a critic in the crowd. Bottom line: buy this book...period! Good luck and best wishes! Jenni
