Summary: Five weeks in...
Review: I first saw this book on display at the store, and was intrigued by the title (I mean, it's the "Body Sculpting Bible," I must chuckle...)

The book has several pros and cons, which I will spell out; and then I will tell you what my experience after five weeks has been.

But first, some background. This book is a BODY SCULPTING book, and anyone who took 5 seconds to peruse it in the store would realize and should accept that this book is ideal for gym training (ie. it requires the use of weights and machines) rather than purchasing it and complaining about this later.

The pros about the book:

1) the authors have a truly motivating voice. They themselves have been through a lot of ups and downs, and it shows through in the writing--they are really sensitive and want to help.

2) the pictures are good; the descriptions of the exercises are good and detailed as well

3) good background--why it is necessary to juggle things around after 14 days, the benefit of doing cardio in the morning rather than afternoon, metabolism, etc.

4) nutrition recommendations for those who are interested

5) great workouts--tells you exactly what to do.

The cons:

1) really needs an index

2) not especially good in telling you by how much you should periodically increase the weight

So far, I've noticed that I'm getting stronger (stronger hamstrings and triceps especially). BUT I haven't lost any inches or dropped any pant sizes or lost weight, despite being on this for 5 weeks now, and doing the Advanced plan (6 heavy-duty cardio workouts and 6 weight workouts a week). I've been devoting a LOT of time to the gym, and have been REALLY watching my caloric intake (my nutritional diet is fantastic--low carb, good protein, low fat). I'm a little disappointed about this. Is it me? Or is it them? I don't know yet.

I DO know that I am stronger, and that maybe 5 weeks isn't enough time to cast judgment. I'll do a 6th week, and then re-start with the Week 1 lessons at a higher level, like the authors suggest.

I'll let you know if I lose any inches.

Good luck!

Summary: So far so good
Review: I have been following the plan in this book for almost a month. I purchased the recommended supplements and I also follow the food plan. I am seeing definite changes in my body and many people are commenting that my legs and arms look more solid. The book is good for people starting out because it tells you specifically what supplements you need to help enhance the effects of your work out. It is really easy to follow and understand and the pictures and directions make it easy to do the exercises with proper form. For someone with patience, will power, and determination, this is an ideal guide.

Summary: It really works!
Review: I have worked out and dieted on and off for years, but this is the first routine that showed immediate results. All I did was follow the workout routines, not even the eating plan or the meditation exercises. And after each two week cycle, I had lost inches!

Summary: Why the sissy weights?
Review: First, I do recommend this book. The authors debunk the "if I work out, I'll look like She-Hulk" myth. (We lack something called testosterone, ladies. It ain't gonna happen.) The book is very well thought out, with great illustrations. I can't speak to the diet part, although they do tell you you need more protein than the low-fat people had us eat. I noticed they didn't include fats other than essential oils in the diet, which I think is nearly impossible as well as not good for you. We need some.

Anyway, my main peeve is that after all this the models are shown working out with fuzzy sissy weights. Even the more "buff" one is working out with probably an 8-pound dumbbell. We won't even talk about the scrawny model with the 3-pound weight. Sheesh. Ladies, you can use all the toys the men do. You WILL NOT GET BIG! Why, then, do the authors show their models with sissy weights after debunking this myth. Argh.

Other than that, it's a useful book. Just use real dumbbells. Please.

Summary: Doesn't Deliver What's Promised
Review: I used the programs for three months and I actually GAINED four pounds and got bulky arms when my goal was to lose weight and tone up. Also, the two week program is very deceiving. When you read it, it doesn't mean that you get in shape in two weeks, it's just two weeks of workouts which get very boring after a while. I'm very upset at the marketing of this book and caution others to be careful when reading the ads.

Summary: Straight-forward, honest info to get the best body ever
Review: I have been dieting and working out for 3 years, yet I had trouble figuring out if I was doing things right, and especially, I could never get the results I wanted, even though I kept my goals real. Modern dieting philosophies, with their fads and contraddicting theories, got me into yo-yo dieting, which led me to a poor body image, a poor energy level and a physique I was pretty unhappy of.
I am glad I found this book. Though the workout part of it will probably not be anything new to intermediate/advanced exercisers, it's new to find such complete, straight-forward info about nutrition, supplements, special needs, the importance of rest, and so on, all in one book.

I have just started implementing the nutrition guidelines and I am on the break-in routine (I was on a cleanse and a light exercise regimen for the last month, so I am re-starting gradually), and I can already see how much stronger I am getting, much faster than ever before, and how my energy level and my mood have improved. This leads to less cravings, better workouts, and therefore, more visible results - faster.

The best part of the book is how the authors simplified it to the maximum, so that it's all easy to understand and apply: macro-nutrients tables, examples of weekly food regimens, section on special needs, and even diversified workouts for each stage, depending on whether you work out at home or at the gym.

I would recommend this to anyone who wants to add resistance training to her workout, or just get more proficient at designing a good, effective workout for herself; I would also recommend it to anyone who has been working out for some time now and "eating healthy" but has not gotten the results she was expecting - this book will deliver them to you!

Summary: Thank You!!!!!!
Review: Well, I just wanted to say thank you to the authors of this incredible book. I am on the program and feel better then ever. I've lost 10pounds and my confidence is coming back. The workout programs are great and easy to follow. The pictures of all the exercises were really helpful and I already feel like a pro. Thanks James & Hugo.

Summary: No Benefit for Intermediate/Advanced workout crowd.
Review: The first two reviews mislead me into buying this book. I was under the impression that it would be a valuable resource to add to my workout library. Unfortunately, it did not provide any indepth information that I didn't alreay have from reading other fitness magazines. This book is only valuable if you're just starting out and need to understand how to work out from A to Z.
