Rating: Summary: Just what I was looking for Review: I started to work out about 2 weeks ago and decided to go back to the gym after 3 years. Once I got there I found that I had forgot what excercises i could do with weights and how to properly use them. I had no clue what work out program would suit me for the results I wanted to get. I was also concerned about what nutrtional needs my body had. I went to the book store to look over the fitness books so I could find one that could help me. To my surprise I found exactly what I was looking for. It had everything in it that I needed. I had bought just 2 women fitness magazines and they cost the same as this book with mostly ads for drugs in them and very few pictures with explanations.
Rating: Summary: Excellent for your fitness goals!!!! Review: I have many books in my house about fitness. Joyce Vedral, Corey Everson, and some others. This book really breaks it down. The one thing my other books do not say is this "Change how you eat, your cardio vascular activity and your weight training" every 14 days!!! It does make sense. This way your body does not get used to your routine. My gym buddy lent me her copy of the book, and I will be purchasing mine right away. I will carry this with me to the gym. I plan to flag and highlight this book like crazy. If you workout at a gym, then ladies this books is for you!!!!
Rating: Summary: buy anything from joyce vedral for awesome home workout Review: i want to work out at home with weights and was using a book by joyce vedral. i wanted to check out something else to see if what i had was good. joyce vedral rocks...this book garbage. joyce gives pullouts you can use while doing your workout. this book doesn't have an easy way to follow their workout. these men also have a diet consisting of living on protein shakes and protein bars. i am a 36 year old mother of two with a full time job. with joyce vedrals books i've lost inches in two months time and feel great. its easy to follow i've just ordered 3 more so i can modify my workout. for the average woman looking to work out with hand weights and a bench with joyce you are set.
Rating: Summary: Best book on weight training for women Review: This book beats everything else that's on the market on weight training for women. Great that it addresses beginners as well as advanced athlets, also it is incredibly motivating. It helped me at a point when I was stuck with my training and didn't get the results I wanted anymore. The exercises are very well explained and illustrated, so there's no excuse not to get started!
Rating: Summary: excellent training resource Review: The Body Sculpting Bible for Women is a thorough way to change your physique. Dedication and a desire to obtain the best possible results are required! No gimmicks, no lies, just good sound advice for all levels. I suggest using it with Strength Training Anatomy, by Frederic Delavier, which illustrates each muscle group used in over 100 weight exercises. Great books for an excellent body!
Rating: Summary: This book gave me a plan! Review: I had started strength training before reading the book, but I didn't have a plan and didn't really know anything about sets, reps, or training to failure. I was seeing some results, but not the results others talked about. I did one week of the break-in routine and then moved to the 14 day workout. I just started week 3 of the 14 day workout today. I'm down 4.4 lbs. and I've lost 5.75 inches. 2 of those inches are from my waist! I'm not following the nutrition as I'm on Weight Watchers and that just works better for me because I can stick to it. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is wanting to start a weight training workout at home. All you need for the break-in routine and the 14 day workout are free weights and a bench. A gym membership is needed for the more advanced routines. This book shows detailed information on all the free weight and machine exercises. Great book loaded with great info! Update: (3/19/04) I've now been following the workout schedule in this book for 8 weeks and I've lost 15 inches, 10 lbs., and 3 dress sizes. I love this book! My husband says he can't remember the last time I looked this good. 2nd Update: (5/11/04) I'm still following the workouts in this book and I'm down 20 lbs and over 22 inches and I'm almost down another size as well.
Rating: Summary: Essential! Review: This book covers absolutely everything. From the scientific facts to correct diet to day by day laid out exercize plan and varied plans. This is my 5th week into the break in routine and I see results already. It's motivating to be informed and the best thing is.. you don't spend all day at the gym! An hour a day is all it takes. If it fits into this architecture student's college schedule, it will fit in yours! The authors even reply back to your e-mails if you have questions. absolutely wonderful. This is the first thing that has ever worked for me.
Rating: Summary: Excellent for beginning and advanced fitness levels Review: I found this book to be an excellent source of advice on getting started with regular workouts, as well as maintaining higher fitness levels. Very well laid out, with workout routines and weight lifting that accommodates in-gym and at-home workouts. Very clear explanations on the proper way to perform weight training. Great suggested workout plans as well.
Rating: Summary: Use caution when following this plan Review: I bought this book to use as a weight training program alongside of my regular workouts, which consist of a 5K run several times a week plus Nautilus. I substituted the machines for free weights, cut two of my runs down to 2.5 miles, and went on the high protein diet the book suggestions (the 1500 calorie version). Three days into the program I noticed a chronic headache, along with shakiness and difficulty concentrating. On day four, insomnia hit, closely accompanied by moodiness, dizziness, and nausea after eating. By noon of five, I was off of the diet. This is day seven, and I feel fine again. After doing research, I found that 1200 calories is only 300 above a starvation diet, definitely unacceptable for a woman working out 6 times a week. I was on the "high calorie" form of this diet and, physically, I was a mess. The exercises are good and will yield results, but common sense should be used when following the rest of the program. For many like myself, sacrificing health and happiness for a sculpted physique really isn't worth it.
Rating: Summary: You've got to be kidding me... Review: Come on, this is NOT good!!! A bunch of rehashed programs from the 70s. It reads like an overly long magazine article. If you follow the book you're working out 12 hours a week! I have a life! Much better is "Body for Life" by Bill Phillips. It has a realistic program that you can do in a reasonable time and still have time for your life. I also will say that I checked this out based on the reviews and I now think that most of them aren't for real. Looking back at the comments, they are all very similar, thanking the authors and using their names. Sounds to me like the author's themselves wrote them. Shame on them.
