Summary: The idiot's guide to weight loss surgery
Review: I am very disappointed in this book. The information presented isn't anything more than I could find in 10 minutes on the internet. Language used and concepts presented are too simplisitc. The book should be called the Idiot's Guide to Weight Loss Surgery or Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies. Also, although the writer is not a doctor, she presents her "theory" that obese people have duodenums that do not function properly and this is what causes their obesity. Plus, it really irritated me how in the first few chapters, the writer keeps telling us over and over that she is obese but does not eat much more than her normal sized friends. Give me a break! She must be in denial. Everyone I know that is morbidly obese (including myself) lives to eat.

Summary: Great Book for learning about surgery and Pre-op Patients
Review: I felt that the book was good overall; however, as a 10 month post-op there wasn't much information in regards to life after surgery. I believe that people who are learning about surgery or are pre-operative will get a lot of useful information from the book.

Summary: This is a great book for those considering WLS
Review: I found this book to be one of the best sources of information before my gastric bypass surgery (Oct. 8, 2001). This book was not only helpful to myself, but also to my family members who were having a difficult time about my decision.

Summary: Weight Loss Surgery
Review: I found this book to be very factual and informative. Definiatly a must read for every obese person looking for an answer. She tells it in a way anyone can understand. I know it took alot of effort and reserch but She has done her homework. I'll be sure and buy it for several of my friends.

Summary: The idiot's guide to weight loss surgery
Review: I had been thinking of getting surgery for about a year. Talking to doctors and to patients who have had it done didn't leave me with all the answers I needed.

But after reading Michelle Boasten's book, I was fully confident that surgery was the answer for my obesity problem. I especially appreciated the strategies she outlined for coping with the post-surgery recovery period. Very helpful!

Some of the science is a tad simplistic, so if you need a more technical and scientific treatment, I recommend Mervyn Deitel's Surgery for the Morbidly Obese Patient.

Summary: Easy to read and understand
Review: I had WLS in November 2000 and wish I'd had a simple book like Michelle's to help in all the technical jargon I was trying to read. She gave a good overview of the types of WLS surgery available in an easy to read format.

That review from LThomas was a joke - what a misguided, irrational person she must be. Once again, Linda Thomas is using whatever methods she can to slander a good doctor's name.

This book is NOT about what doctor to use. It is a book that describes what type of operations are available and a description of each.

The only thing I would have liked is some before and after photos (we women LOVE before and after photos!).

I say, "Good job, Michelle!"

Summary: Weight Loss Surgery
Review: I have done a lot of research on weight loss sugery, as I am preparing to have the sugery done myself. I bought this book in hope of expanding my knowledge on the subject, however the author contridicted most things I have been told by surgeons, and dieticians. I feel she has knowledge on her own personal procedure but made quite a few false statements concerning the other procedures available. I did not find this book helpful at all.

Summary: the gastric bypass bible
